Bioware released another update to the Summer of SWTOR released a couple weeks ago, this time with more details on patch 2.4 including two new operations, 4v4 arena, and a new planet with a short story arc.

Summer of SWTOR Update | 07.16.2013, 06:35 PM

Hello everyone!
Here is a fresh update on where we are at in terms of hitting our schedules for the Summer of SWTOR, and a recap of all the exciting things we have in the works for the months ahead. The usual disclaimer applies that all of the below dates are the dates the teams are shooting for. As you saw with Game Update 2.2.2 which had to be moved back by one day, it’s entirely possible these will move!

On July 23rd look for a return of the Relics of the Gree Event for a two week long run:

  • Per community request the event will scale up to level 55 on this next run, including better loot rewards, commendations, and achievements
  • Possible drops include a new Sphere Transport Enclosure vehicle

August 6th is still looking good for Game Update 2.3:

Players can look forward to the namesake of this update, Titans of Industry – a story arc that encompasses two new Flashpoints at level 55: Czerka Corporate Labs, and Czerka Core Meltdown. CZ-198 is a major weapons research and development facility under the direction of a power-mad Czerka Corporation scientist named Rasmus Blys. In addition to two Flashpoints where players will confront Rasmus and his creations, CZ-198 offers new daily missions for players looking to earn credits, commendations, and reputation rewards. The new Flashpoints are available in both story mode and hard mode. In order to ensure you can jump right into the action, we’re trying something new. The story modes for the new Czerka Flashpoints are role-neutral, which means Group Finder will match you with the first three players it finds, regardless of your group role. Hard mode will of course require a fully balanced group, offering new challenges for you and your friends at level 55. CZ-198 offers some great new reputation rewards, including new Czerka adaptive gear, mini-pets, some incredibly powerful new droid companion gear and schematics, and the Czerka Executive Cruiser – a luxury landspeeder that oozes style. Also in 2.3 we are introducing the new Companion Character Treek, a deadly and resourceful killer who also happens to be an Ewok.

August 13th is our target date for our next all new event: Bounty Contract Week!

Bounty Contract Week provides new missions with full voice-over that will take you on a hunt for high-value bounty targets across the galaxy. Each bounty contract scales to your level, from 15 to 55, providing experience, credits, commendations, and reputation with the Bounty Brokers Association. Players will have opportunities to interrogate informants, make dark and light side decisions, and kill or capture their ultimate target. Each time you take a contract, it has a chance to play out a little differently, depending on the information you gather during your hunt. Once you’ve completed enough contracts, you can accept even more dangerous missions to take down notorious crime Kingpins! Rewards include a new mount, new adaptive gear, and a unique companion customization for HK-51! Completing bounty contracts can also earn you achievements which unlock special legacy titles, and even Cartel Coins! Bounty Contract Week is a monthly event, so if you miss it the first time, don’t worry – it will return next month!

October 1 is our target for Game Update 2.4! This update is shaping up to be very big:

  • The Planet Oricon, a short story arc that will bring you face-to-face with the Dread Masters.
  • New Operation: Dread Fortress
  • New Operation: Dread Palace
  • New 4v4 Warzone Arenas
  • New Elder Game PvE and PvP Gear

This isn’t an exhaustive list, and we are also working on several longer term initiatives. As we get closer we’ll have a lot more juicy details on these and on what’s above. Keep your eyes peeled to the forums and SWTOR.com for more information!

Summer of SWTOR Update | 07.16.2013, 10:31 PM

Hey guys,

I am getting that some of you are frustrated that there are also Operations coming in 2.4 as a PvP player. This is in no way taking away from the content you are getting. It just means that on top of being an update with PvP content, it also has PvE content in it as well. It is just a bigger update for everyone!

To specifically address some of the concerns I am seeing in the thread. First, the 4v4 Warzone Arenas are not scaled down versions of the current 8v8 maps. They are a brand new Warzone type (deathmatch) on their own brand new maps! Note: Plural! You will see more than one map at launch.

As some have said, this is not the only thing coming in 2.4. We have stated before in this thread the purpose of this is to give you an overview, it does not have every detail. Some of your other concerns…such as queuing for Ranked, will be addressed along with 2.4. We are still working on details and 2.4 is still a ways off. We will continue to release information as we lock things in.
I want to add on a personal note that one of the things I have enjoyed most over the past month or two at work is our twice a week Warzone Arena playtests. I am someone who primarily PvPs when I play SWTOR and they are so, so much fun. I cannot wait for you guys to get your hands on them!

  • Gustav

    2.4 looks incredible imo.

However not too big on 4v4 arenas from a balancing PoV. Hope they’ll keep WZ’s as the main focus, with 4v4 as a fun addition.

Wonder if Oricon will be a storyline in the traditional questing sense, and is not just part of the operations.

    • Mackdi

I don’t see how it can “look” incredible as there were no screen shots, but I do love the update including some much needed new real content like the two ops. Of course the hardcore raids will be done with it in like two weeks. :(

      • Gustav

Troll attempt failed. Better luck next time.

        • Mackdi

I wasn’t trying to be a troll. Maybe choose your words more carefully to get across your actual intent instead of sounding like an idiot.

          • Lucas

Actually his words was correct in the context. Maybe you should do some more research instead of sounding like an idiot.

            Hint: Sounding, troll on that.

            • Mackdi

I dont see why you would use looking there because the only thing to look at is words. STFU cry baby.

              • iceberg265

Don’t you have to look at words to read them?

      • TheMadVanguard

        lol done it two weeks

Um um um SV NIM TFB NIM nah its been more than 2 weeks and lots of big guilds are stuck on 2boss of TFB NIM

        • Mackdi

Your talking about nightmare mode. I am talking about story mode. You know there wont be a nightmare mode for months for these new operations. They gotta hold something back to keep you busy later down the road. As a dev you can’t release all your goods at the same time.

          • TheMadVanguard

Well yeah, would you really wanna wipe on sm for week and weeks?

    • BrianDavion

yeah I’m hoping it’ll be a small daily area. with a lead upp quest line. an entire planet of nothing but a raid prologue would seem silly

  • Shinji_Sama_01

Oricon needs to be kept different from Makeb, as in the story around the Dread Masters, objectives and such need to be different for every class, rather then all Imperials being contacted my Maw, and All pubs being contacted by the same person. But actually advancing or furthering each class’s storyline.

    • Darth-Obvious

That’s not going to happen. Not only did BW state that there wouldn’t be a continuation of the class quests anytime soon but the Dread Masters have always been a shared experience between players. They’re not part of the class quests, they’re part of the Besalvis world quest and various group quests. There’s no way this content will be handled any differently. Not to mention Bioware (Austin) doesn’t have the resources to do 8 new unique class quests, not even small ones, especially within the time frames they’re currently working under.

Future class quests were already written some time ago, pre-launch infact, and some of it has even been recorded in terms of dialogue, but once TOR didn’t become the success that EA & BW thought it would, alot of the bigger and grander ideas went out the window or got put on hold.

The type of updates people are demanding from the team, ie a full on expansion, aren’t really doable at this point or rather are going to take way longer to produce. For instance something that may have taken them only a year to produce when production was in full swing with an unlimited budget and a staff of hundreds would now take them years to produce.

      • Shinji_Sama_01

Sadfaces. I might end up dropping out once I get a PS4 and XIV is out.

        • Chakra Kusanagi

Well if thats what makes you drop out then so be it.
Welcome back when they do implement more class stories.
Just dont forget to thank us who stayed and paid for it…

          • Mackdi

lol you know that is never going to happen. People just want more without having to pay for it or showing respect to the people who make it. The internet is a very sad place.

  • nobody

just one thing missing from 2.4 – the super secret space projct (free movement space battles)

    • Fan of Bing Bing

that won’t be in 2.4 My money is on it will be another paid expansion like Makeb. Which if its even just the same thing as X-wing vs Tie Fighter ie instanced space battles with other players then I would happily pay for it.

      • Chakra Kusanagi

        Me too!

      • Daniel Moreno

Only if they improve their net code. Because then I’d be all over it.

        • Fan of Bing Bing

no need for that in space combat really. A space battle could easily handle a lot more people then a ground based PVP match. Mainly due to not having ground and less special effects.

          • Daniel Moreno

A fair point, and it will be accessible to a lot more people that the current PVP is. However, I play on a craptop!

            • Fan of Bing Bing

Well if they add fun space combat even just in an instanced style with free flight then it will bring people back. I know a ton of people that would sub just for that.

              • Daniel Moreno

I’d just be happy if they made some devilishly difficult rail shooters that had up to four players on their own separate tracks helping each other complete the instance.

  • Hydrac

    ARENA!

  • ODST_Parker

Great, the Gree event is now 55, and us 50s who don’t have the paid expansion are going to be stuck again… They should have left it as it was. It was hard enough finding groups of level 50 players to carry me through at 45, and now I won’t be improving as I go. Thanks, Bioware, for forgetting your f2p players once again.

    • Master Tyran

You’re not fully informed. There will be bolstering in effect so any level 50’s who want to participate can.

    • Moises5287

Then buy the expansion. Simple as that

    • Jeffry Zicoberta

Dont be so cheap for a game u enjoy.

    • Fan of Bing Bing

I believe this is where i say Learn 2 read.

    • Someone

screw f2p players lol :D comlpain about free, sounds smart

    • iceberg265

You are getting an AAA MMO for free, no one wants to hear you complain about anything. Why should Bioware support you when you are not supporting them?

    • Chakra Kusanagi

Well it WAS heavily requested by players… so they listened to the players…
But i guess thats wrong of them?

    • WLB

Typically I would say they usually forget about the subscribers more than the F2Pers. Or perhaps they just forget about both equally. ;) Whatever the case, you shouldn’t have too much trouble with the Gree event seeing as they’re putting the bolster back. Although the fact that they did listen to the players in this case is encouraging IMO.

    • Konoha the Wiper

This is why I hate the F2P scrubs they don’t pay any money and complain when they don’t get anything. It’s not even like you have to sub to get the expansion, I bought it for £7 how cheap can you get.

    • Mackdi

Why should other people be carrying you through content? Your too lazy to earn your own level 50/55 like the rest of us. Get a life instead of giving the few good F2P people a bad name.

    • Vlad

seriously dude….anyone and i mean anyone can scrape up 13 euros in a whole month….

  • Terrell

    Hi Dulfy,
thank you for all your work at first time, I got a question, all your video guides seems to be lagless, what computer spec are you running?

    • http://dulfy.net/ Dulfy

      i5-3570 and ATI 9750 I think

  • Sildroni

“New Elder Game PvE and PvP Gear”

wonder if this is just skins or a new tier?

    • Fan of Bing Bing

depends when was the last new tier? They seem to do every other tier as a new design.

  • Sibakero

Great update and all that, always happy that there are still (and hopefully will be) content coming in, no matter how small or big they are, rather than nothing at all.

But personally, sick and tired of the fr*ck*ng Dread Masters popping their heads in almost every content this franchise has. I love the dread masters and all things “dread’ ever sine I first encountered them on Belsavis, but after all the dread master content they’ve come out with, honestly..Section X, TFB, S&V just to name a few..ugh..And now they have their own full Operations, two in fact, and there might be a FP(or 2) directed at them as well. I do hope that these PVE content will ”kill off” or end the dread master chapter, and BW comes up with a new plot revolving around something else than the dread masters.

Again, awesome idea BW, and I’ve really enjoyed it, but it’s like eating a chocolate cake with chocolate fudge in the center, topped with chocolate Icing and chocolate ice cream and chocolate sprinkles on top, plus chocolate syrup. And downing that with rich, hot chocolatey swiss miss with chocolate marshmallows. And then eating a chocolate-mint right after. *relch* Death by chocolate, or dread masters I should say.

    Just my 2 cents. ;P

Thanks so much for all the work and passion you put into this Dulfy for the rest of us! More power! :)

    • Daniel Moreno

Oddly, no part of that chocolate rant sounded bad to me…

    • Moises5287

Well, given the name of the operations, i think this will be the last content with the dread masters on it

  • bleeters

“The Planet Oricon, a short story arc that will bring you face-to-face with the Dread Masters.
    New Operation: Dread Fortress
    New Operation: Dread Palace”

    My body is ready.

  • Thrax

Dulfy! How are you so awesome :D?

  • Konoha the Wiper

    Christmas December XO

  • Jack Lindsey

Is there 2vs2 arenas? or is it just 4vs4?

    • Jack Lindsey

4vs4 should be limited to one of each class to make it more competitive

      • Jeffry Zicoberta

and u replying your own comment, sweet

  • Ainelsa the Loathsome

So does the new pve/pvp gear mean that all the 69/72 pve gear and all the partisan gear I spent so many hours grinding wzs and operations to get are going to be obsolete already?

  • Fythis

Finally…..They’ll make really , really awesome update :D
