GW2 Reveals Wintersday 2013 patch details

Wintersday is coming back to GW2 this month with returning activities from last year and ascended armor crafting. Read below for more details.

Starting December 10, 2013

The nights may be growing longer and colder, but Lion’s Arch is merrier than ever before! Wintersday is returning to Tyria, along with everyone’s favorite toymaking inventor – Tixx! Celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of the next in this six-week winter festival!

Enter Toymaker Tixx’s workshop inside his golem-shaped airship, the Infinirarium, to corral mischievous toys and set things to rights!

The multi-path Winter Wonderland jumping puzzle is full of beautiful delights and death-defying challenges! Leap from snowflake to snowflake, prance up a stack of gifts, and race giant snowballs on your way to the prize!

Make sweet music ring through the air with Tyria’s favorite musical challenge, the Bell Choir! Group up with other players to make sweet harmonies and ring in the season.

Toys are running amok and threatening everyone’s Wintersday! Enter Toypocalypse to defend noble, gift-bearing dolyaks and Tixx’s toymaking machine from the predations of haywire toys!

What good is Wintersday without the opportunity to pelt friends, foes, and total strangers in the face with snowballs? The Snowball Mayhem fight will pitch you against other players in a mission to store up as many presents as possible while laying waste to the opposing team!

You may have found a way into the Toxic Alliance’s inner sanctum, but this has by no means curtailed their nefarious activities! Kessex Hills and the surrounding countryside are still befouled by the alliance’s evil presence!

Sneak a peek at the Wintersday wonders that await you – join ArenaNet devs for a livestream on our Twitch channel on Monday, December 9, at 12PM PST!

  • Tixx’s Toybox

Tixx’s marvelous miniature toys are available once again! Complete the Wintersday meta achievement to receive Tixx’s Toybox, which will grant you one of Tixx’s toys: a Mini Ventari, Mini Plush Griffon, Mini Princess Doll, Mini Toy Golem, or Mini Toy Soldier.

Craft Ascended Armor

The Armorsmith, Leatherworker, and Tailor crafting disciplines have a new skill cap of 500, which means that you can now craft your own Ascended armor! Refine, stitch, and hammer your way to 500 to become a Grandmaster Crafter and unlock the ability to craft Ascended armor!

Wintersday : Nothing new ?

It seems that wintersday seems the same as last year.

Do we know if the previous achievement will came back ? (like SAB ?)
Nothing new for those who already got the 5 minis last year…

Quite Ironic that a TOYMAKER had a year of time to work on said toys, and there are still only the same 5 from last year. As someone who has all 5 of those previous Minipets, this Meta Achievement is even more underwhelming than the one of the Fractured Release.

So ugly ascended armor we saw back in October was not some work in progress. Good thing I got transmutation stones on sale.

I thought that armor was ugly as hell too after seeing strange color combo screenshots, but when I grabbed the codes and previewed it in game with my dyes of choice some of it is actually really quite nice. But it’s just a matter of personal taste of course.

All the dyes on the trading post can’t fix that bucket…or the horrid light carnie pants. Here are the chat codes so you can try for yourself.

Well this year I must complete the jumping puzzle for sure! 😀
And I`m kinda excited about the Ascended armors crafting.

To all those people who keep getting disappointed with recycled holiday events, WoW, a subscription game, has been recycling holiday events forever.
You can’t expect anet to come up with free new contents for recurring events every year.

Yeah, and also, no one force you to do it – so if you don´t like the content, don´t do it and do whatever you want.

Btw. It´s every two weeks and – IT IS FREE! In other MMO (which have subs), you have new content usually 2x or 3x A YEAR. However, I never did meta achievements and contents just for the reward or AP. I did it because I enjoyed it.

I was thinking the same thing. I played WoW from 2006 until a couple months ago, and I think they updated two their events twice in that time. And all that was was adding a couple items, didn’t change the activities of the holidays. As long as ANet updates every other year, that’s fine with me.

TBH I dont mind if very little changes with holiday events, ala GW1: gave me time to relax as I knew what needed to be done, and there wasnt too much new to get stressed over. Sounds like a holiday to me!

the problem is not that Wintersday come back with no change (because there are lot of things to do if you just start it), but the Meta achievement reward :Tixx’s Toybox
Indeed. For those who got the 5 miniatures last pay (2-3 from game and the other from gems), it is unfair that it is the only reward.

In the previous events miniatures never come back from one event to another.
They should have add one more miniature for those who already got the 5 others.

Sweet we finally get to craft ascended stuff with leather! The other events and stuff are cool,. but its small compared to making our own ascended armour finally. 🙂

I wonder if the ascended armor crafting will let you craft individual pieces or if they will be complete outfits. I am hoping for the former as I like to mix my armor stats (head, chest, pants with one stat, etc.). Since you’ll need to buy recipes with laurels I think the latter situation more likely.

? I mean the Ascended craft mats that works as Leather and Linem. They’re not in game yet, but I want to know where we will get they.
AS example: Bloodstone is obtained trough CHamp box.
Where we will get the ascended mats?

EDIT: nvm, just noticed that they are spools. What means they will be buyable by masters.

Wintersday and Christmas is the same in real life too every year? I actually like certain things to be the same, as in GW1 the holidays were quite the same every year.

I hope the everlasting tonics are gonna be creatable: missed out on one because the RNG really really hated me >: (

Ascended armor!
So excited, so excited!!! :DDD
..jeez, that’s just a cancer that kills mmos, lobsters gonna enjoy tho.

Amusing to see Jewelcrafting as shafted as it has been since the very first ascended gear introduction about this time last year. Since anet has recently proved they are capable of making gamewide changes to how items fundamentally work they really need to introduce ascended gems and jewels so that asceneded jewellry can have a normal upgrade socket just like ascended weapons work atm.

Very pleased with the Mesmer buffs, but it also means I should wait till patch day to make my Tank Mesmer. Also just now getting into the game 100% in time for a patch is great.
