July 1 Content Release Notes

LIVING WORLD

Gates of Maguuma
Over the smoldering fires of Lion’s Arch, a roar echoes from the west. Now, mysterious incursions into Brisban Wildlands have alerted Tyria’s heroes to a threat reaching across its frontiers to tear at its foundations. Mystery and adventure await those who go forth into long forgotten territory.

Achievements
After completing the Gates of Maguuma episode, players can showcase their tactical mastery as a hero of Tyria by completing challenging, episode-related achievements.

NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT

  • Valett

    Weak patch… Sadly.

  • Cloudrunner

Did that just put strength runes back to what they were before? They really want scholars to stand alone as the best set for PVE DPS, huh?

    • Zombehguy

nah id say they just think ~20g for a rune is too much… plus, more variations… id still use strength on my warr tho…

      • Cloudrunner

The Strength Rune buff was what caused more variations lol. With it nerfed again, now Scholars is clearly the best choice.

    • Danizta

Totally called that they were going to nerf those runes

  • Dehh

“Oh shit, people actually like this rune, NERF IT QUICK”

    • Acher

      “Quick! Kill It!” – Shiny

    • nerf yourself aholnet

time to dump my stack of 250

  • CorruptShadows

Was wanting and expecting more from this patch.

    • Braghez

If fact many stories are famous to start with booms crashes and stuff on the first chapter 😀 especially fantasy ones…what did you expect ? the whole maguuma unlocked and the dragon already here for you ? xD

      • Cloudrunner

Yeah actually, after waiting for 3-4 months, I think a lot of us expected more than an 1 hours worth of content.

        • noononno

We will get it every two weeks like before..

        • Braghez

What noononno said, plus the fact we waited only 1 months and half, lol…plus the other fact that it’s not just 1 hour if you actually want to complete everything from the event 😛

    • Anerf Grindmore

      Yep

    • Andrew McCunn

      A permanent new zone
An episode that consists of about 5 different parts, each roughly the length of the main game’s story missions that further advance the story
      Multiple new events
      Re-worked Living World mechanics
New recipes and cool armor skins
Only 2 weeks until the next patch.

Wow, what a weak patch you guys. Guess they should just scrap the whole thing!

  • roxoxo

2 months of waiting & hype, and looks unimpressive so far.

    • Braghez

I’m quite liking it 😮 the events are kinda nice, not too hard…yet they requires a mechanic, big stuff from the old LS where you simply needed to bash the boss in mass xD
Liked the story too and still have to do the achievs related to it…so i ll say only later about the “challenging” part they promised xD They released a new zone with a sweet level design as they promised 😮 with some events actually needed to access some zones too xD
For me this patch is passed…what i truly want to see is how they manage now big events XD

  • Kick

    anet…..

  • Straw Hat Boy

That’s it……… Yup time to find a new game.

  • Yat

I can preview that Shadow Assassin Outfit via wardrobe, but cant see this in Gem store

  • Archi

What do we do with any leftover festival tokens? Are any of the rewards vendors still around?

    • Braghez

You had almost two months to use them, and now ask if vendors are still around ? XD just dump them now.

      • Archi

i used them all along but made more during the last 24 hours. i wouldn’t dump them because the crown pavilion will open again at some point and likely they would be spendable then, if nothing else. i just think they could make a black lion item specialist like the weapon specialist and keep that stuff around a while. or something similar.

        • Braghez

That can happen too, still it was quite a gamble to not use them at the right time XD …it’s quite risky to hope that there ll be another festival of the four winds, especially after what happened to the zephyrites…

  • Anerf Grindmore

When’s the guide coming out? Really didn’t care for the jumping/aspect starting the new area. Disappointed so far. I give it a chance after I see a guide/ just can’t be bothered wasting any more time getting frustrated with mechanics I hate.

  • Tolaxor

lol mai trin is now op as hell…. 8k autoattacks

  • Nail Meet Coffin

Welp. This looks like it’s another nail in the coffin. So much for actually getting Dragon Bash again.

    • heyheyhowxy

Dragonbash was lame. hope to never see that corny crap again

      • Halcy

        I loved the overall event.

What I didn’t love about Dragon Bash was the BASH 150 PINATAS/fireworks/holograms.

Thankfully they haven’t done achievements that terribly monotonous since.

      • Nail Meet Coffin

It may have been lame or corny. But at least it was better than the majority of the content that they have actually released this year. Despite the story content for this patch being interesting. There is really very little to do after that portion is finished, in fact I find it extremely boring. It’s all go here do x, rinse and repeat nonsense which I find immensely redundant, time consuming, and dry.

  • Doyen

If anyone is trying to do Dashed Advantage, I made a video here to show the location.

  • Sephjet

A gem fee to unlock living story you accidentally missed, are you kidding me?!!
Talk about nickel and diming, it just got worse,
events behind a cash fee, now,
    wooow
what a bunch of asses, that is just absurd

    • nekodoken

How do you “accidentally” miss a content by not logging on at all for 2 weeks? Maybe even 4 weeks? They haven’t specified the duration, but towards the end of Season 1 Anet said people mostly did not like how rushed half of the content were when they’re gone in 2 weeks. Just need a few minutes, patch and log on, play later. It’s completely free.

Secondly, living story Season 1 was temporary, and you must play during the release to access the content, after that it’s GONE. Now it’s PERMANENT as long as you log on. If you don’t, and you actually WANT to have the content, then it’s 200 gems. If you care about it that much, you can find a few minutes to get the patch and play when you have time. If you don’t care (I’ve personally skipped some parts of Season 1 because I wasn’t interested), then let it go.

The event is NOT behind a cash fee.

      • Braghez

Pfff, c’mon…you can ask people to just log in the game 5 seconds (time to click the living story icon above map) to unlock something forever…that’s too hard and time consuming…

        • Sephjet

Not everyone has their life revolve around a game,
          or maybe going on a trip for a couple months without access to internet, there are multiple ways to miss one;
but the point is, it’s ridiculous to lock the living story behind cash at all, something better saved for cosmetic items
If you rabid fanboys feel differently I really don’t care, I’ve given my option as a casual player, and I’m tired of everything new being stuck behind real-life cash instead of being placed/gotten in-game,
event areas/ achievements should not be cash shop if you miss them.

          • Doronjo

Unlock a chapter takes 5 sec in 2 weeks o more, then how much chances you have to miss a chapter in your life?
If for some reason “you accidentally missed” LS, you can:
            1)pay 200 gems, are very few Gold…
2)ask a friend with chapter unlocked and join, is free..

            You dnt have time?
            You dnt have gold?
            You dnt have friends?
            …And play to GW2?

The people of the internet is very strange.

            • Braghez

Thanks god some people still have some sense in them.

              • nekodoken

Thanks to the people here who agree with me, especially Doronjo mentioning joining a friend to play the content.

Also just to clarify, I am NOT, as you say, a “rabid fanboy”. I have a full time job and sometimes I don’t play gw2 for a couple months. My life does not revolve around the game, and I consider myself a casual gamer. This meaning that, if i have to miss an episode because I couldn’t play, my reaction would be “oh well, I’ll play the next one and read story recap.” This is what I did in Season 1, and now that these missed stories are not gone forever but obtainable, there’s nothing but +++. I can still go “oh well” and just leave it, or 200 gems is very easily obtained with in-game gold (or 2.50 USD).

I do think a full 2 weeks is very reasonable amount of time to allow you a few minutes log in time to unlock the content. If you don’t play for 2 months straight (I wish I have 2-month long vacations), that’s potentially 4 episodes, 800 gems, 10 dollars USD. In that case it’s almost like a mini expansion. Are you saying if an expansion pack is available for money, you wouldn’t buy it, because “something new is stuck behind real life cash”?

          • Braghez

Lucky you that you can go to a trip for few months with no internet acces whatsoever…then I guess you got them oney to unlock it too…
I have to work to get them, so i can’t go for that long on a trip of any sort. Still they said the fee would be around 200 gems, wich is very little stuff and obtainable with little money in the game.
Send me a postcard from himalaya next time you go for a trip there.

          • Andrew McCunn

Wow, you are complaining about THIS? Wow, remember how it used to be? If you missed it, you missed it forever. You’re basically complaining that they give you the option to UN-miss it…

      • freee

Just knowing that that you will have to pay for super mediocre content is a slap in the face, you are a fanboy obviously.

        • nekodoken

I’ll respond each of your points:

“…will have to pay…” You don’t “have to” do anything. No one forces you to do anything. And the first chance to obtain this content is free, as long as you take a few minutes within the 2 weeks of the release.

“…super mediocre content…” My comment that you responded to clearly said there were some content in Season 1 I was not interested in at all.

“…is a slap in the face…” I just chose not to play the uninteresting content, instead of taking personally what ANet wants to do with their game.

“…you are a fanboy obviously.” The only thing obvious here was that I did not consider Living Story being locked behind cash (see above). You have no idea if I agree with all of ANet’s choices and directions with gw2 (see above again for stuff I did not find interesting). The other obvious thing is you called me fanboy just for this, and I did not call anyone any names.

    • Mar von V

It’s just the story and related achievements you have to pay for. The area and region achievements are 100% free.

    • LeRapace

That is why I’ve switched to WildStar.. everyone in game makes it sound absolutely terrible but it’s super fun, none of this crap, and you get to actually build like Sims on your home plot.

      Dulfy even plays it!

I hope they change this because I’d still like to come back to GW2 at some point, but not if they’re going to be like this.

I have guest passes if anyone wants, 7 total.

  • Andrew McCunn

Anybody figure out how to craft the Adventurer’s Mantle yet? I know that for light armor I need the Adventurer’s spectacles and the gossamer head pieces, but I can’t find what the final item is…
