GW2 Scribe Crafting Leveling Guide

GW2 Scribe Crafting Leveling Guide with info provided by Vin Lady Venture of [RiFa]

Perquisites

Assumptions

  • Crafting progress here assumes you have 50% crafting critical success rate. This can be done via the Crafting Booster or the Item Booster (they stack so if you use both you would have 100%). If you use both boosters or have the guild crafting boost (10%) or the WvW crafting bonus then you will need less to level up.
  • Crafting XP is calculated every 25 levels and rounded up so again you will likely need slightly less than what is in the guide.
  • You do not need any decoration permissions but you will need the “Use Placeables” permission to be able to craft the White Balloons you brought into Green Balloons.
  • Costs for Scribing from 1-400 varies. Resonating Silver prices are in high fluctuation. If you are using the current ultra low silver prices (<20s each) you can finish it with about 600-750 gold depending if you do buy orders or direct purchase. A total of 768 Resonating Silver is needed for 1-400.

Guild Unlocks Requirement

If your guild hall does not have the following upgrades you are welcome to join Vin Lady Venture’s guild The Rising Falcons [RiFa] as they have all the unlocks for scribing. They are an EU guild but US players can use all the guild upgrades. Send a mail to Vin Lady Venture to join or add Aginjai and whisper them for an invite.

Special thanks to Vin Lady Venture of the The Rising Falcons [RiFa] for all the information on scribe leveling. They are an EU guild that welcomes all EU/US players to join them to level up scribing (US players can use all the guild upgrades) . Send a mail to Vin Lady Venture to join or add Aginjai and whisper them for an invite.

  • Ares Zax

This is a big help. Thanks! I’m not going to follow it to the letter (especially since now that this guide is out you can bet prices for certain materials will spike), but it has given me tips on some items to craft at certain points to reduce costs. 🙂

    • Vin Lady Venture

The main thing that is affected by price changes are the level at which you need to swap from crafting book covers to crafting wvw upgrades.

The costs of decorations are so much higher that it is unlikely that they become cheaper to craft. However feel free to contact me for an up to date guide on what is best at that day.
I will also try to give Dulfy updates when things really start to shift.

      • Guest

Vin, have you built a calculator for this? Have you considered submitting it to gw2crafts.net ?

        • Vin Lady Venture

I have this in a (messy but working) semi-automatic Excel sheet currently. Thanks for pointing GW2crafts.net out to me i have send them an email to see what we can do. From what i see their guides are fully automated based on the cheapest options to craft. Would be great to have that for scribe as well (currently i check it regularly and mail updates to dulfy when needed and or post here, but that all needs to be done manually).

Although the current one is not autotmatic i do try to keep track of it daily. The guide remained the same even after the recent price changes for some of the key items like resonating slivers (which crashed and got back up). The only things at were affected were the levels at which you needed to swap from crafting book covers to WvW upgrades. (and even then the differences in costs were not that big).

  • Sekai

can you sell anything that you made ? so you can get a bit of gold back, or is it all acc bound ?

    • Hahaha

You can’t sell books in TP

      • Vin Lady Venture

True the book covers are basically waste that you craft. You need them to craft books but those can also not be sold. However they are the cheapest way to level up (decorations and other things are much more expensive to craft specially at higher scribe levels)

    • Vin Lady Venture

Most of the things you craft are account or guild bound. Scribe is not really a crafting profession to make gold with (more to spend it with )
things you can sell (but do not sell fast even when there were only a hand full of scribes)
      – paper (specially higher level ones)
some intermediate crafting materials, which are unlikely to make provit as most scribes craft their own..
      – bags of energy
      – reinvorcinge plates
      – Bag of Dolyak Chow
      – crate of training supplies

  • Hahaha

You need to craft decors for your guild anyway

    • Vin Lady Venture

You can ofcourse craft decorations along the way. However if you just want to get your level up to be able to craft higher level decorations, the guide will safe you quite some gold as Decorations are a lot more expensive to craft due to their demand for
      – more resonating materials (that you get from guild missions or TP ) than the things listed in the guide
      – expensive crafting materials not in the guide (sand, oils)
      – pigments (which you only need for the 5 back items you craft in this guide)

next to that you can craft everything in the guide immidiately, while some decorations (specially higher level ones) require previously upgraded decorations (which need time or resonance to build and finish+ additional guild permissions to do so)

  • Foxie Ue

How I can join Vin Lady Venture’s guild The Rising Falcons [RiFa] ?

    • Add her ingame and whisper.

      • Guest

is that guild working for EU players?

        • fruei

hopefully. I bought 14250 slivers today when price was cheap, now it already more than trippled. Need to spend them

          • Guest

            or get banned

            • You can’t banned for buying cheap stuff on TP, as long you don’t do the exploit.

        • Vin Lady Venture

We are a EU guild so it will work for sure for EU players. (As far as i know US players can also join EU guilds but they will not see us walking arround or can join in the same maps, but chatting and using the guid upgrades should be possible….. (if somone from the US likes to try it out, contact me in game (in game mail is a good way to contact me)

          • narg

hello Lady, can i ask you, which guild hall do you have ?? My guild have lvl 40 Gilded Hollow, but i want find someone with max lvl of Lost Precipice, with complete buildings unlocks (if possible), I just want try, how it looks at full unlock..

            thx

            • Vin Lady Venture

We are lv 44 and located in gilded hollow (with extended exploration). Our PvE alliance guild [FoW] (based on Fissure of Woe based guilds but since its for PvE, open for all) is located in Lost Precipice, but only lv 13 (has arena lv 2, rest of the buildings lv 1). We did build snow bridges to ‘fix’ the broken bridges in that hall though so you can explore most of it.
Contact me in game if you like an invite (ingame mail works best)

But perhaps someone else here has a more upgraded Lost Precipe hall that you can visit

              • narg

                ok, thanks

  • Dorid

It’s Resonating Sliver not Silver. Please fix that mistake.

  • Vin Lady Venture

Due to some price changes, here are the last updates based on prizes at the time of posting:

    lv 175-200
fine book covers until lv 188 (about 24)
hardened gates until lv 200 (about 13)

    lv 200-225
lists guild arrowcarts to craft, which is fine, but guild balista’s are cheaper (they need the same only balista blueprints instead of arrowcart blueprints, which are cheaper to get)

lv 250-275 (due to flax fiber prize increase)
craft book covers until you are lv 267, ( about 37)
craft centaur banners until you are 275 (about 10)

lv 325-350 (due to flax fiber prize increase)
full book covers (need about 126)

In addition, for lv 275-300 its highly recommended to level to 280 first before you start with the backpacks because if you do not make it to lv 300 with them you are forced to craft expensive decorations or tools in order to get crafting experiance (the banners do not give exp above lv 290)

(also send this update to Dulfy so she can modify the guide, when thats done feel free to remove this comment)

  • Alot

    Sweet cheese of antioch…

  • Czan

What does scribe craft, only decorations?

    • Alot

And an ice moose. We label that separately.

      • Vin Lady Venture

Agreed specially since its over 150 gold to craft currently …. but you get a nice BIG icecube for it…. which (when you press F at it) turns into an reindeer ice sculpture

    • Vin Lady Venture

Paper (you might need some for a legendary collection), Decorations, WvW upgrades, Backpacks, and a few sigils.

      Also see https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Scribe

As a nice bonus, scribes can refine all materials (and do it in the guild hall) for when your collectibles are overflowing and you want to compact them a bit through refining. Unfortunately they can not craft the 1 time a day accended crafting materials.

  • aginjai

Congratulations on completing your guide Rin.

If you want to get into our Guild Hall to level up your scribing you can also send a whisper/mail to me: aginjai

I am on Officer in RiFa and tend to be in GW2 more often than most others in our Guild currently.

We also have a couple of jumping puzzles in our hall, one of which I created that leads to the very top of the Guilded Hollow for those that want to check it out. More info on this has been posted on WoodenPotatoes Jumping Puzzle Database he has started for Guild Halls here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/WoodenPotatoes/comments/3zm68j/jumping_puzzle_database/

    Have fun, and happy scribing.

  • jemort

Thanks RiFa for the help. Your invite to your Hollow finally got me to 400, Appreciated

    • aginjai

      Congrats 🙂

  • Castor

Would u mind adding a list of all materials needed to lvl form 0 to 400? Not divided lvl by lvl as it is quite annoying when I have to buy same mats fot the 5th time ;P!

  • Benjamin Harrison

Bought, not brought. I swear you do this in every post 😛

  • Vin Lady Venture

You are still welcome to contact us to level your scribe. However do know that Anet talked in a video about adjusting the cost to level scribes as its to expensive atm. So perhaps you want to wait until they changed it in a future update (they did not talk about exactly when they want to update this yet though)

  • Vin Lady Venture

Note that since the price changes and the fact that sand paper is (at higher levels) now cheaper then book covers, it is likely that you can even lower the costs a bit further through decoration crafting. However you will need to include that from the start of the guide in order for it to be actually cheaper. Since this is a lot of work to look into and the differences seem small i will not update the guide to fully include decoration crafting. The current guide (with the alterations mentioned here) is still one of the cheapest way to level your scribe in a fast way. If your guild has some decoratoins or boss spoils that you could use you can safe gold and get it cheaper but this is not something i can include in a guide meant for everyone. The guide assumes that there is noting in the guild that you can use, except for the WvW unlocks.

if you want to level scribing through decoration crafting (which is now A LOT cheaper, though probably still costs more than the WvW route)* you should ask the following permissions from your guild(leader):

    – Use placeable (so they can use decorations the guild has in crafting)

    – edit assembly queue (so they can process their crafted decorations at the processing machine near the crafting stations and after processing use the finished decorations for the next step in crafting (for example for balloons, finish the basic balloons so they can build the balloon bundles).

With these permissions you can craft and process decorations. Processing time in now only 30 seconds so that is something you can wait for.

After crafting your decorations, go the the processor (near the crafting stations in both halls) and queue the decorations you just crafted to complete them. (takes 30 sec / item) after they have finished processing you can use them again for higher level decorations.

    Some additional tips:

1 Buy basic decorations at the decorations vendor for 24 silver each if your guild has it unlocked. You can buy them at the master scribe as well but there they are 50 silver each (but these are always sold, even if your guild did not yet unlock any of the guild decorations merchant upgrades).

2 Your guild must have the specific WvW upgrade unlocked in order for you to craft it. (so if that option is not listed as something you can craft, your guild probably misses the unlock)

3 Some things can be uncraftable due to it requiring event items (snow piles from wintersday, pumpkins from halloween, red lanterns from lunar new year, super cloud from SAB festival) OR drops from bosses (basically for all the bronze, silver and gold tropies).

Also if you need/like a guild to level up your scribe (due to trouble getting permissions or use cheaper basic decorations/possible WvW unlocks), RiFa is still accepting guests, and the contact details mentioned in the article are still correct.

    * note i did NOT do exact calculations to see what is the exact cheapest way to level your scribe atm, but comparing similar levels to the overall needed materials it seems the WvW option is usually the cheaper option….

  • Vin Lady Venture

NOTE as of the 19-4-2016 patch of GW2, this guide is partly obsolete as recipies have changed. though atm it is still one of the cheapest ways to level up with a few adjustments:
lv 25-50, craft book covers until lv 46,(about 58) then craft minor supply drop (about 6)
lv 100-125 craft book covers until lv 123 (about 77) then craft sabotage depot (about 3)
lv 175-200 craft sandpaper until you are lv189 (about 27) then craft hardened gates (about 13)
lv 250-275 craft candpaper until you are lv 264 (about 27) then craft centaur banners UNTIL LV 280 (about 24)
lv 325-350 craft sand paper until lv 350 (about 126)
lv 350-375 craft turret gates (instead of emergency waypoints)

Using the guide with these alterations it will currently (21-4-2016) cost you about 400 (order from TP) to 500 (direct buy from TP) to fully level your scribe. (This assumes you need to buy everything including things as badges of tribute from the TP which you can also get by trading 30 WvW badges at the NPC in the war room)

If your guild does not have the WvW unlocks you are still welcome to visit RiFa to level up (mail vin lady venture in game and make sure you have 1 free guild slot and you should be accepted within 24 hours tops.

    • Ainseland

TY VIN still im lost some of items and description doesn’t match from this guide to in-game crafting list

      • Kali

Hey, tried sending a message and it says your name was changed. Any chance I got it wrong and/or if I could still get an invite?

        • Vin Lady Venture

strange… last time i checked my name was still “Vin Lady Venture” (you can try my alt “Vin Lady Venture I” or our officer “Aginjai” as well) or leave your ingame name so i can invite you

          • Kali

Wow, thanks for the hasty reply! I tried sending mail to all those names and for some reason it says the names don’t exist (might be a new bug or something). Anyway, my in-game name is “Kalinasha” or my account is “Lanaeris.3845”. Thank you again.

      • Vin Lady Venture

That is possible since the update changed the exact recipes and (possible some names as well), the list i posted in my comments above are based on the new recipes

        most important changes:
        – only 1 resonating sliver needed for all tiers now (instead multipe or upgraded ones)
        – reinforced iron, mytrhil and orichalcum no longer require any flax fibers
        – papers only require 1 pulp now instead of 5
        – sand paper of all levels only requires 10 sand (instead of 10-50 depending on tier)
        – finishing kits now only require 1 sandpaper and 1 linseed oil for al tiers

next to that there are some minor changes to some of the WvW crafting recipes (for example emergency waypoint now take 2 badges of tribute to craft instead of 1)

perhaps there are more changes specially for decorations as i did not go through all of them.

so yes the shopping lists shown in the guilde need to be updated…. (but not sure when i have the time to do that)

Probably worth noting that you can level from 300 to 400 with Ornate Scribe’s Backpack. I did vault transports in the middle of leveling my scribe. Significantly cheaper since a lot of wvw unlocks require leather which is outrageous high right now,

      • Vin Lady Venture

Thats much more expensive to craft.
The unlocked WVW recipies do not require any leather (It only takes leather to unlock them for your guild, but you can just visit us [RiFa] to craft them with us as we have the unlocks) feel free to mail me ingame for an invite. (Vin lady venture)

        lv 300-325 refine stuffInvulnerable Fortifications
        lv 325-350 Invulnerable Fortifications
        lv 350-375 Vault Transport
        lv 375-400 Watchtower

See also gw2crafts.net which shows you the cheapest way to level up your scribe based on current TP prizes (and assuming you have acces to all recipies).
It does not include recipies that require festival items or rare drops (such as trophies). This is because not everyone has access to these items and there is no way to get them (out of season) as they are not on the TP.

I’m finished nonetheless but thanks for pointing it out. I was aware of the unlocked recipe not requiring leather.

Since the recipe list is out dated and other options are now more interesting to build due to the scribe changes, you can try to use the (beta) scribe guide from GW2crafts.net
go to http://gw2crafts.net/scribe.html if you want to try it out (all credits for this go to GW2crafts.net)

please read my posts below for the premissions you might need and additional tips and provide feedback to GW2crafts.net for the guide so it can be updated if needed (again its still in beta so use at your own risk, but is seems to help you level up even cheaper than my current guide)

I hear reports some players have issues to contact me using my character name. Try “Rin of Rivvinda.4971” instead to contact me

also a general tip for scribe (and all crafting leveling) use crafting boosters and guild tavern bufs to increase your crafting critical chance so you need to craft less to level up and safe gold.

Been trying to message you in-game, but so far none of the names has worked for me!

You are mixing up “Perquisites” and “prerequisites”. They mean completely different things.

I can’t get to level 400! I’m currently at 382. According to the guides, the only way to get to 400 is to make a lot of “Watchtowers” or “Presence of the Keep”. Both of those require one or two “Strategic Defense Map of the Mists”, which I’ve read can only be acquired from Mist enemy drops. I guess I’m unlucky because, after all of the travels I’ve done so far in the Mists, I’ve only gotten one of these maps. At this rate, it will tale me an eternity to get enough maps to craft the stuff I need to reach 400.
    Anyone have any reasonable alternatives?

    • Prince

You can buy the maps from the TP for about 2s each.

Yeah…found that out right after I posted that. Feel really dumb! Thanks!
