SWTOR BSG Packs to Return for Limited Time

Bronze Silver and Gold Packs will be returning for a limited time from Jan 12 to Jan 19.

Bronze/Silver/Gold (BSG) Packs Returning for a Limited Time | 01.08.2016, 07:10 PM

Hey folks,

In early December we took the BSG packs off of the Cartel Market to coincide with the launch of the Strategy Alliance Pack. This certainly raised some questions on when they would be returning. We are going to be bringing the BSG packs back to the Market next Tuesday, January 12th, for a limited time. The BSG packs will remain on the Cartel Market for one week, before being embargoed on Tuesday, January 19th.

BSG packs will be treated similarly to other previous grand packs, we will be embargoing them but they are likely to return for limited periods in the future. If you want to get yourself some BSG packs, next week will be the time to do it before they become embargoed.
Thanks everyone.

This was only from 3 months ago. What changed?

Good question!

In talking with the team, they have been making quite a few changes to the Cartel Market and packs since 4.0 launched. There are even more changes coming when the new pack launches in February.

As a part of those changes, the decision was made that BSG packs will now be consistent with the shipment packs in that they will be embargoed after a period of time. We do realize this change may be sudden but it is all a part of the evolving nature of the changes the team has been making to the Cartel Market.

I hope that clears up any confusion.

I saw that. He could mean the first pack of Shipment 9 (hopefully), since it would be a new pack if Shipment 9 starts in February.

Thats what I was assuming. The BSG packs would be a fill in before the Research Pack, then the new shipment would have another type of change to the packs.

i get what you are saying but if they kept them up on cartel market don’t you think it would demolish the values of the rare items (cathar honor sword for example)

You must be mistaking me for someone who gives a damn about “value of rare items”. It’s pixels in an online game; there is no value to me. People are putting up items on the GTN for INSANE amounts of in-game credits that no one in their right minds should be paying. I’m not even talking about one of your precious rare items either. I’m talking about common housing items that come from CM packs.

It’s gotten to the point of ridiculous and your concept of “rare” must be skewed. It’s just a flooded, cornered market at this point.

No. You are not.

BSG armors would look more like Star Wars than the poor stuff the BioWare art team releases.

So, basically when these bronze-silver-gold packs are “embargoed” the only pack available on the Cartel Market will be the newest one released? If the goal is to get people to spend more because these are now “limited-time offers” I don’t think it’ll work.

I liked it better when all the packs from a shipment were made available one at a time until all of them were released, and then when the next shipment came out the old packs would be removed one-by-one. Now we’re going to have periods of slim pickings followed by ones of over-abundance.

I also don’t understand why BioWare decided to change their gameplan regarding these bronze-silver-gold packs to begin with. Were they not selling well, likely due to their cost vs. reward, and so they were made a limited-time thing to superficially increase their value? Was this the gameplan all along?

It just seems to me like there was more money to be made when the old packs themselves were made available for a limited time instead of these bronze-silver-gold packs. As it is the price of them is too high considering the rather large pool of items each pulls from.

Well, I guess I can understand their strategy. The BSG packs are there for people who never got the chance of getting something more than what the latest packs offer… Think of the influx of new players that came with Kotfe and wish they’d had access to older stuff. And then they’re closing them when time comes to sell their new packs, or else people could consider their new pack crap and they would buy the other ones. They have to sell the new packs because it’s a business, and they compare figures with other releases… Their dev team would be pretty useless if what they create for the purpose of bringing more income doesn’t get sold… I could be mistaken, but they have a boss and they have to justify their pay.

They lost me, in terms of pack purchases, when they started repeatedly bringing back the “embargoed” packs. My cargo holds are filled with garbage that can’t be sold for a decent price. There’s no real “investment” incentive in buying packs anymore because they keep periodically flooding the market with supply of past pack items.

Its because they are blindly obsessed. Nothing wrong with that but that doesn’t change the fact that they have trained the user base to write articles and be excited about the latest gambling pack. Its sad, but its EA. Zero loot system, just cartel market system…..lol.

I just dont like many here depend on random, not talent. Someone play for long but need to farm millions to buy favorite or good item in GTN and someone who register ~2 weeks ago bought one or few packs and get super rare item and puts it in GTN for millions. Where support for loyal old time players?

Umm……95% of the game. A vast majority of Dulfys articles are CM related. Go gander at the front page. That speaks volumes. The others are user created guides.

I wish I had blind allegiance, but sadly I’m an adult.

Why do you think CS:GO is so popular? I bought the game on release day and no one cared for it. The game blew up after they have brought Skins and Knives in. Gambling has always been something many people like and that will continue. Especially since everyone can do it. Not like you need to be 18y old like for a casino.

It was crap on release day, there is a reason why Valve took direct control over the development from Hidden Path after release.

Translation- We found yet another way to get yet more of your money, but yes, sure, we will absolutely believe EA’s somewhat new president, that EA was ready to turn a new leaf.

Because they are going to embargo BSG packs like the rest? Doesn’t sound like anything has changed or its another way to get your money, just the same.

Right… By making them only temporarily available, rather than available at all times (as initially instated) they’re trying to get more money. Interesting logic, you have.

LOL, aren’t these the packs that were supposed to be on the CM permanently? I think the word PERMANENTLY must mean something completely different for the BW/EA folks than what it means to the rest of the world. But yeah, thank ya for the comedy, you’ll never stop astonishing us…

They realized those products had implications on the market that weren’t desirable, so they made them temporary. Hence the various blog posts on those items and the fact that they stated they’d be rethinking how they implemented them.

Because they flopped. People didn’t like them and the sales results reflected that. Something needed to change, and the marketing strategy surrounding them was the first to go.

I don’t know why they thought it was a good idea to have packs that consist of everything yet released on the CM. The chances of getting an item that you wanted were so incredibly slim that you’d have better luck writing a note of what you wanted on some money, crumpling it up, and throwing it out the window, hoping that the wind blew it into the right person’s pocket for you to get what you asked for.

And the chances got ever so slimmer every time a new pack came out.

It was an asinine plan to begin with. I’m glad they are gone. Just bring back packs as they used to be.

That’s probably why they were removed. They actually had decent odds of getting something you could at least sell for a decent amount.

“Hello, shop owner, I’d like to buy a pick’n’mix variety sweet pack”

“Great, heres a bag, head over to the sweet area and pick what you want within the weight limit”

“Wow, I havent had gummy bears in so long, I gotta put a load in here!”

“Im sorry, you cant have those.”

“Why not?”

“Because they are not available”

“What? They are right here.”

“No, they are not.”

“Ok…..how about some shoe lases?”

“No sorry, those are not available either.”

“But they’re right there…..”

“Yeah…no.”

“Well then what can I have?!”

“You can have Parma violet sweets.”

“Just those?”

“Yeah.”

“So I just fill my whole bag with parma violets and nothing else?”

“Yup”

“What if I payed extra for the other sweets I can see right in front of me?”

“No, only violets.”

This is what I feel like with the packs recently…..

But the packs aren’t there. You can’t see them. It’s called mrketing, by taking them away it creates a demand so people will buy lots of them before they go away. Yeah it sucks but it is a sound business practice.

My question is will these packs be current up to the latest armor in the last set of packs? Will the Malgus and Sith Recluse armor be in them? Or is it going to be current up to the Explorer packs?

I’d hate to buy more off the GTN and get stuck with more Life Day armor sets. I really wish they’d separate these gold packs into shipments. Or just sell us the armor sets outright.

IE… B/S/G Explorer, B/S/G Shadow, B/S/G Starfighter, etc, etc…

so instead of having alot of different packs to sell you just wanna sell 1 lmao the incompetence of bioware never ceases to amaze me
at first they say those BSG are gonna be permanent but now a sudden 180 degree and yeah they are now limited sorry folks but f you.
these BSG are the only packs that contain everything from the previous shipments and all the current cosmectic crap is all crap
why is bioware shooting themselves in the foot here? i just wanna understand the logic

Well, like I said before, I guess I can understand their marketing strategy. The BSG packs are there for people who never got the chance of getting something more than what
the latest packs offer… Think of the influx of new players that came with Kotfe and wish they’d had access to older stuff. And then they’re closing them when time comes to sell their new packs, or else people could consider their new pack crap and they would spend their cartel coins on the BSG ones. They have to sell the new packs because it’s a business, and they compare figures with other releases… Their dev team would be pretty useless if what they create for the purpose of bringing more income doesn’t get sold… I could be mistaken, but they have a boss and they have to justify their pay.

“In talking with the team, they have been making quite a few changes to the Cartel Market and packs since 4.0 launched.”

They sure have Eric. And pretty much every single change is for the worse. Unlocking armor sets for a legacy, for the most part, is more expensive than ever with “Gold” sets being 400 Cartel Coins when before they would’ve been 240 at the absolute most. Launching Xoxaan’s Armor Set for 2400, or was it 2600, Cartel Coins. Changing packs so that they only came with one item, a change that had to be rectified in later packs. No Cartel Certificates in packs anymore. Almost no sales on the main store at all anymore, and when they do show up they’re an absolutely pitiful showing (see the Black Friday “sales”).

Actually I can think of one change that was for the better, and that was the tier changes so people can tell what items are rare in an easier fashion. That’s it. And that doesn’t make up for the multitude of shit changes.

I might get flak from some people in this community that feel the need to jump on a lightsaber at a moments notice to defend BioWare because they feel that I’m “attacking” them. But fuck them. The Cartel Market has made changes for the worse. Period. Changes that harm the user base, harm the economy, and make it a feast or famine setting. And I really wish it wasn’t. They should’ve left it alone if this was the end result.

Its hard to care about them “ruining” the micro transactions when they’re already doing their best to drive away all the subscribers with the content. Or more accurately the lack there of.

Yeah I mean.. how dare they not release the next expansion with 9+ chapters of content yet? Lazy bums, has been almost three months now!

whether you like it or not this is the lazy path they are taking cause appearantly creating ”story content” is cheap instead of actuall mmo group content or pvp maps

OMG, Yes! I went through all the 8 storylines, did all the sidequests at least half the time, went through Makeb 4-5 times, Oricon, etc… but second time through KOTFE is so numbingly dreadful! Once was too much already… even Shadow of Revan was less boring…

Haven’t spent money on this game since they took the packs away. If my only option is to buy the new pack, then might as well go spend my money elsewhere.
