SWTOR Bioware’s Open Letter to SWTOR Players

SWTOR Producer Ben Irving has posted an open letter to SWTOR Players to address some of the concerns with KotFE.

An open letter to our players | 04.19.2016, 01:19 PM

Hi there!

My name is Ben Irving, Producer for Star Wars: The Old Republic. I don’t often make posts in the forums, in fact, this may be my first ever post. Despite that, our whole team, myself included try to digest all of the internet for SWTOR information – The forums, Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, etc. Recently there have been questions and concerns around the quality of our releases and the ongoing support for SWTOR and I wanted to stop by to address those concerns.

First off, I want to apologize for some of the issues you have experienced in the last couple of months. The monthly chapter release schedule is new and it has come with some unexpected bugs. It has caused problems for some of you and I want to say I am sorry. At our core, the SWTOR team are all gamers, just like you. We empathize with the excitement of wanting to play a great game only to be blocked by a problem. We spend all of our energy striving to make SWTOR the best game possible and when bugs and other issues get in the way of your player experience, we take it to heart. We are committed to doing better and I think Chapter XII: Visions in the Dark shows we are serious about listening to your concerns and making meaningful changes to address them – a high quality chapter, released on time that we hope has met the expectations of our players.

Onto the future. Is SWTOR going to receive ongoing support? The answer is absolutely yes.

It’s worth starting with the things we have already announced, we talk about them on the monthly Producer Live Stream but I think they are still worth mentioning. We had the launch of Knights of the Fallen Empire – 9 incredible story driven chapters, 14 companion recruitment missions, Star Fortress, 5 new player levels, 30 flashpoints upgraded to be challenging again, 50 operation bosses upgraded to be challenging again, too many heroic quests to count, a revamp of the 1-60 levelling experience and a huge number of quality of life improvements. More recently we have kicked off our monthly chapter cadence and our third installment – Chapter XII: Visions in the Dark – was just released. That cadence will take us through most of the year ending with Chapter XVI, our story finale for Knights of the Fallen Empire. In addition to all the monthly chapters we have built great supporting content – Recruitment missions to explore the galaxy with some of your favorite companions, the Odessen Proving Grounds Warzone, the Rishi Cove Arena, the Eternal Championship and new levels for crafting. That’s actually more content following a major expansion than we have ever released and the team is really excited for all of you to play it.

The harder part to address, because you have to take my word for it, are all the features and content we are working on that we haven’t yet announced. If you follow Charles Boyd or Paul Marino on social media you may have seen some hints of this. The team recently visited our MoCap studio to create new animations. Charles Boyd spent a week at our VO studio recording more lines of dialogue for future story content. The two most exciting things to share are that our writers are deep into the plot summaries for the next season’s worth of chapters and we have started the early design phase for new, non-chapter, content. You all know the drill here, I can’t talk about any of the specifics (yet) but what I can say is that we have some REALLY cool stuff to talk about later this year and the whole SWTOR team can’t wait to announce it. Soon. TM.

Knights of the Fallen Empire is the most successful expansion we have ever produced. It received critical acclaim from press and fan sites but most importantly, it has been successful because all of you have supported us through the expansion launch and the release of the monthly Chapters. In the eyes of all of our partners, SWTOR is a huge success. BioWare supports this game. EA supports this game. Lusasfilm supports this game. Disney supports this game. In fact, for a game that has been live for almost 5 years, we are receiving an incredible amount of support from all of our partners. It’s both amazing and humbling.

If there is anything I would like people reading this to take away it’s this: SWTOR is absolutely being supported into the future. We have a lot of content coming over the next few months and even more exciting things to talk about later this year. All of us here at BioWare appreciate your ongoing support and we are committed to providing the best experience possible.

It’s because of you, our players, that this game continues to thrive. Thank you for playing Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Ben Irving

  • Translation: The game is not dying. Do NOT unsubscribe. We have more HK rewards coming your way!

All jokes aside. I think that’s a pretty powerful statement. The devs are probably tired of hearing rumors that the game is dying. I think players just feel ignored overall. The game is still great but when you feel ignored, tickets are filed without answers, phone line is useless, forums are filled with people ready to troll you rather than help you…all these things can stack like a brontes debuff and eventually players say enough is enough.

One user in the forums said it perfectly and I quote:

“MMOs are games comprised of different communities with unique interests”.

I’ve had buddies tell me the reason they log into SWTOR is just to craft. Thats is literally all they do. It’s what they like. Then there’s the pvp’ers. The raiders. The lore lovers. The guide writers, the easter egg hunters, the social crowd, the anti social crowd, the cartel market crowd, the events crowd, the world bosses crowd, the GSF crowd, the customization crowd, etc, etc.

This game will always hold a special place in my heart. I learned to love it. But it is important to note that many players feel that Bioware has unsuccessfully satisfied its communities in-game. This explains why no matter what they do, some community will always be dissatisfied and feel neglected:

See 2-year no pvp map drought

    • Xethis

I’ve actually thought that SWTOR gas had one of the greatest customer service teams I’ve seen in a game, both over then phone and with in game tickets. For example, with the release of chapter 12, I had a bug on my client where highlighted armors that I was comparing stats with would keep their stat table frozen on the screen. About one and a half hours after writing a ticket, a service agent wrote back to me, providing a patch file for my video card, as well as instructions on how to get the patch working.

      • Shadowofdeath

Well then sir you are one of the (very) lucky ones. I often go at a minimum 2-3 weeks just to receive a “Thank you for your suggestion” randomly generated response for any of my tickets

      • AbnerDoon

Glad you had a good experience. All HK reward jokes aside dealing with support for Ch. X on my sniper broke me. Being repeatedly told that the issue was fixed and to reset and play it again just happened one too many times. Finally getting the early access to Ch. XI having it auto reset X once again and still be broken was painful. Contacting support being told to reset once again when they should have known they’d forgotten to push out the patch.

I was glad when XI went live to everyone that X was finally fixed. But for me it was just too late. I finished unsubscribed and went F2P the fact that the arena kept being pushed back helped in that decision. For now I am considering subbing again next month but my distrust tells me to wait and see if the championship actually launches and works first. I have been waiting to get Bowdaar back for months just to watch them say not yet each time.

It seems like a Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football move to me. By now they should realize not to make grandiose announcements without the dev power to even come close to the dates.

      • I’m glad your experience was much better. But usually swtor customer service can be quite frustrating.

    • Shawn Hargrave

the problem is they decided to ignore all but 1 type of community and thier paying for it. They should feel neglected they said story story story everyone else piss off

      • Pretty much this. They did try to make the crafting community happy too but indeed left out too many.

        • Dru Ilhares

At what point did they try to make the crafting community happy? Now that I’ve had half my artifice ripped away and given to cybetech, I focused on making sure my cybertech was up to snuff. Those mods/enhancements are STILL USING SLICING COMPONENTS instead of, oh, I dunno, the goddamn rare metals that cybertechs are prone to grabbing. They fixed the fuckery on lightsaber crystals (to a point), but not that.

And then they added insult to injury with their whole claim of streamlining, when in reality it increased the materials that had to be used, and crafting became 3 stages (gather-make item-make ACTUAL item) instead of 2 stages (gather-craft), which pretty much eliminates their “time saving gift” of the overhaul. At no point was this catering to the crafters, it just bent them over the barrel, with the faintest hint of lube.

  • Seph

Basically all I got out of this is “we’re listening” and “things will continue into the future exactly as they have been”. That is not neccisarily an encouraging thought.

  • Kirito

I’ve already accepted the game for what it is. A fashion show. I’m fine with it

  • Truth

Wow, there must have been a lot of cancellations.

I don’t think players are threatening anymore. I think they are really doing it now, and unsubscribing by the bunches.

    • That’s possible. Some players have posted their canceled sub pictures on the forums and in reddit. Hell even youtube has a “Is SWTOR dying” video lol

    • Grow up

Good luck on joining a new garbage game then and start the complaining all over again over there.
      Stupidity United never changes

      • Getajob

Yea, damn that guy for having an opinion!!!!!

      • DURRR

Nice reply. You should take you name’s advice

    • #Hashtag

My thoughts exactly. I know a lot of people are saying “look, they said it’s not dying, so it must not be dying, all you toxic people are wrong, bioware would never lie to us”. However, the truth is, people have been this toxic and critical of the game since launch and they have never made a post like this. It really just confirms they are full of shit and people are leaving in masses despite their claims that this is the most successful expansion/patch/update ever. The facts clearly show they are flat out lying to hide the truth. More proof would be how they removed server load from the server selection screen or better yet, how completely dead gen chat is on some of the most popular server in the game. The harb, pub side during prime time hours goes a solid 5-10 minutes without people saying anything… the silence is only broken by gold spammers. The imp side isn’t much better and the chat is only scrolling because you have a very low number of trolls keeping it moving while they troll each other. Now go back in time 2-3 years and I challenge you to find a 5 minute window where no one said anything… Ops were being spammed endlessly all day every day. You could log in and hit the weekly com cap in one night of casual raiding. The sad truth is the mmo factor of this game is dead and no amount of bioware denying it will change it.

      • Get real

So… in summary, they can’t win. It doesn’t matter what they say or do because your mind is all made up. The End.

        • #Hashtag

Never once did I say they can’t fix it. Merely said the current state of the game and direction is not working and the facts prove this hasn’t been the most successful update despite the lies they are telling everyone to convince them otherwise. This open letter is nothing more than a desperate plea to try and save face. They can skew the data all they want and claim it got great reviews but if you read those reviews they are quoting from websites and fansites, they are done by people that aren’t qualified to review the game… hell, the one review claimed they saw a guy running around on fleet with numbers in his name… because you know, that’s totally possible in swtor…. If they continue down this path it will not end well, and that is exactly what they plan on doing… season 2 of chapters will murder this game as did season 1. The people that fail to see that season 1 has killed this game will be the same ones playing until the servers shuts down saying “I don’t know why anyone doesn’t want to play this game, it has great solo player content that I can run by myself”… after they labelled everyone else that had a different opinion “toxic” and ran them off with their biodrone mentality.

      • William Bolitho

It may have been the most successful expansion… but it started months ago, and maybe the bloom has worn off the rose.

        • Shadowofdeath

Doesn’t matter if we keep subscribing or not, they make most of their money off of cartel market sales at this point.

I encountered a guy on Harbinger who just started playing and hadn’t even cracked level 30 yet. He was a subscriber and had already purchased 25 Hypercrates. 25, That’s not an exaggeration he was opening crates non stop for several days, He was deleting half the items he got because he didn’t want them. Then within a week he had stopped playing, moved onto CS:GO

These are the sorts of people who keep swtor going, unsubbing won’t matter when these people are around

          • Shawn Hargrave

some what true but the more unsubs the better let those stupid fucks waste money but dont give ea 1 cent

        • John Fisher

Maybe the most successful expansion of people leaving the game.

    • Phase

I have to agree I am starting to think about going the ways of F2P and just use ops passes via cartel coins and also buying a bunch prior to going F2P to use to raid. I’ve only just come back in January but this is beyond sad, I feel for the people who have stuck around and actively subscribed over the years through all this crap.

      • What?

Why would you do that? You’re still giving them money.

    • Shawn Hargrave

      one can only hope

  • Trapdoor

If putting their all, into new chapters = bugs/glitches on a video/cut-scene segment (Yes, Mr Triangle head/face, I’m looking at you), let alone actual game-play areas – I don’t hold a lot of hope.

ps – STILL waiting for grey-area/neutral force gear (for those that are not light or dark).

    • Capt. Obvious

Neutral gear already exists it’s called adaptive.

  • Stitch

Aww Shawn Hargrave is going to be so sad!

    • Naq

Yeah but he is also going to accuse you of being a fake account and a carebear. I just hope he is having a nice day, and he is finally happy for once.

      • Shawn Hargrave

nope nag i found the letter hilarious and pointing out the have issues and cant solve them then more fluff as usual.

        • Naq

That’s nice Shawn, I’m glad you are happy.

          • Me

Happy as shit in the sewer.

    • Shawn Hargrave

no not really the letter is lolz gave me a good laugh

  • Jason Blackburn

I think Blizzard has already trademarked Soon.

    • William Bolitho

      I thought Soon™ was a joint ownership.

I mean, I remember being on Reaper’s forums once when someone in charge of the PR basically said, when we say Soon, we mean sometime between a couple hours and the end of time.

      • Evan Karl

Jagex and Runescape use it as well, which I thought was confined to them till now. I guess it’s just a running joke many game companies have now?

  • Me

@Ben Irving Is BW ever going to address the chapter ONE issue with character romance flags not showing up as being set? At this point an answer…any answer would be appreciated. To quote the droid that processes R2D2 at Jabba’s palace in Return of the Jedi, “Yes or no will do”.

  • Sean Bigley

at the risk of being called a scab ill say this. Im glad to hear from them, i look forward to the furture. and the toxic people can shove it.

  • Shadowofdeath

Everyone here is complaining about the “toxic community” I agree, much of swtor’s community is toxic however don’t label the doom Sayers who keep splurging out “This game is broken I encounter tons of bugs daily” as the toxic community. I for one see many of these issues as a PvEr (Yes we are still around) several fights have absurd bugs, prime example being 16m Revan, he’s broken, you can’ clear him, has been this way wince 4.0 dropped yet it hasn’t been fixed.

What swtor community really needs right now is action, not words, we always hear this “the games getting more support” ok, you say you have more content in production you can’t announce it yet, I understand how that woks. BUT. A massive step in winning back community support would be to start fixing these ongoing bugs, and secondly to figure out how to balance classes, yes it’s a real issue, brought on by the PvE/PvP balance however it does need to be addressed.

    • Gaf Jones

I found the toxic community member!

      • Shadowofdeath

I’m hardly a toxic community member. Just pointing out the obvious. I know the devs are probably working on content (hopefully) and I actually positivly contribute to the community, I’m that guy teaching the noob how to do his rotation, the guy teaching pugs how to do proper fight mechanics. I also have an interesting thread tracking PvP stats if you are interested

        • Gaf Jones

Just fooling fella 😉 You’re actually completely reasonable!

    • Firbolgar Avangerson

Can’t clear 16M revan? We encountered no such bug to be honest. We actually found 16M significantly easier than 8M. What bug are you referring to?

      • Shadowofdeath

On the final floor revan never breaks his channel, I’ve had several colleagues confirm it’s there, maybe its a random chance

        • Firbolgar Avangerson

You mean he never breaks his channel when you first get to the third floor, despite the necessary dps being applied to break it? Odd, we never saw that. Maybe it’s been fixed, or (more likely) just doesn’t show up anymore? Fwiw, we downed it about a month ago; don’t know if that timing is relevant :/

  • Shannon Thalhammer

Like a lot of people ive played this game since Beta but i stopped playing about 1 year ago, i keep coming back to this site in hope there would be something amazing to bring me back to the game but with no luck so far..

This game has gone down hill since the Cartel Market, putting all the great items in packs and making us gamble for them and on top of that paying a subscription.. this game just is not worth the $15 a month anymore, BW need to address this because players are not getting there money’s worth anymore.

  • Vos_L

The only real problem I have with KotFE is that there isn’t any replay value. With the Hutt Cartel expansion, they cut things down to 2 faction stories. That made replay pretty tedious, as it was. Now, it’s just 1 story for everyone. Combined with the fact that all of the companion missions are the same for every character, it’s a lot of slog through over and over for those of us who like to play a lot of alts. The companion stuff is great but we didn’t really need every companion available on every character….I don’t need 30 companions, especially when I have to level them all up individually.

  • Biower pls

TL;DR – “Guys guys, the game is not dying, everything is awesome, and get ready for more HK-55 shit and boring chapters we’ve been hard at work on.”

I’m simply incapable of taking anything said by a BWEA representative at face value, at this point. It’s not my fault, it’s yours.

    • Kobie

      So don’t play. Problem solved.

      • Biower pls

I already don’t. I just bought a 2-month timecard 4 days ago and haven’t even bothered logging in yet, and when I do, it’s only because my guild needs a tank and they call me over Whatsapp. The sub cost is peanuts, the wasted time doing the same old boring shit isn’t.

Hint: a problem isn’t “solved” because you look the other way.

      • DURRR

Lol why do you think this letter was written? People have done just that like myself and bioware is trying to stop the burst pipes of sub loss……..

  • Naq

I would genuinely like to see them streamline some of these changes.

They upped the level on all the heroics, but there are so many bottlenecks due to low spawn rates during peak hours, like that Mando in the dark temple impside, or the Rakghouls on that one mission on Taris.

They increased the levels on 50 operations bosses, which yeah, if you break it into individual bosses it sounds more incredible. Heck, if you divide it into ops it still sounds a little impressive at 9 ops and 2 single encounter instances. He left out the world bosses too. But they also stripmined those encounters of a ton of mechanics to make them pug friendly, it sounds nice, until you realize ops are no longer on a difficulty curve, and most people cannot do HM anymore thanks to a crazy “jump”…cept KP/EV.

We have a decent story, which at least addresses our origins, although some people seem to hate it…but its the internet, people hate everything. That story introduces some really nice areas, some of the best environments I have seen in this game, instead of giant oversized megahangars, oversized streets etc, but some of the best places we have seen we only have access too one time, then never again.

30 upgraded flashpoints! That are not worth the time or effort to do, because you gear up faster, and accumulate commendations at a higher rate by doing operations. You could argue that flashpoints are good for when you don’t have time for an ops….but Directive 7, False Emp, and Battle for Ilum, or even Black Talon(if you have someone who doesnt know what a space bar is) will devour a lot of time. Flashpoints are a good place to gear up and learn mechanics to start doing ops? Yeah but entitled little shits want to join ops queues naked and clueless, and thanks to bolster and no mechanics…they can. So that pretty much renders all that effort on flashpoints a waste, and with leveling speed SO fast, they don’t aren’t even relevant in the leveling process.

And while releasing all the new content, some of the core content was pushed back, over and over, with nothing given in its place, leading the audience to feel cheated for 2-3 months, with what felt like minimum effort. An hour of story is fine, if it comes with SOMETHING, flashpoint, event, warzone, space daily, starfighter zone, new daily area, something new….

I am happy the game lives on, but its time to address your house, it is very much out of order.

    • Yes. The letter does make a really good attempt to make it seem like all is fine and dandy. The reality is that it isn’t. I think players are simply happy that they actually wrote this letter because more silence would be really bad at this point.

    • Andhros

Some of the chapters, III and XII for example, are so similar to ops in setup that I figured BW could flip a switch after the last chapter releases which would add a few minor tweaks and add some mechanics to the bosses and “new ops” that single players don’t have to group for completion. I also think that XII would do nicely as a new daily area although would need a slight retcon where Satele and Marr stick around for a short while to train you in the new ways or something.

At this point I may just be one of those people who signs up at the end of a season, or when a popular party member returns.

    • Kobie

A lot more of the heroics need to be instanced now.

    • Firbolgar Avangerson

Most people can’t do HM anymore? Maybe I misunderstood you or something.

Sure, a lot of the older HM content is harder than it used to be because of the level up but there are a lot more teams that have cleared all HM content then in 3.0. Revan and Cora got HUGE nerfs, so that leaves only the RNG of MB to deal with.

      • Naq

In reference to the difficulty curve. The difference between SM content which has had a TON of mechanics gutted, and HM is a much larger gap than before. Taking a new player from SM into HM seems to be far more of a culture shock for them. You can act like you are too amazing to see it, but eventually any raid group loses a member, and replacing them requires either recruiting someone new, or in a close knit group, bringing up someone you all get along with. And in the later case, I am watching people have a much harder time transitioning.

        • Firbolgar Avangerson

Ahh, yes. I misunderstood your point. I totally agree with you! I was afraid of this when 4.0 dropped and I saw how much SM was nerfed. Hell, even 16HM KP and EV can be run with 8 🙁

    • John Kosto

Wow 100% in agreement. These are exactly my thoughts about 4.0 and everything in it.

    • Jerome Lee Ross

      My exact reasons for unsub

  • Sarcastically Speechless.

  • Pyre

Should we all be on BW/EA’s ass about the things that still need to be fixed in the game? Oh totally. There are deffinately issues in multiple areas. One of them being that yes their revamping of flashpoints and operations have left some serious divides in what is worth doing and what isn’t. But for all the people that are unsubbing because you think they don’t deserve your money anymore….The money they are asking for a month is more then likely WAY less then what alot of people spend on coffee in a week. And if its not about money and more about moral high grounds….I hope you’re giving that money to a charity then. Otherwise if you play this game more then once a week and enjoy w/e part you are doing. Pay your sub and get up on the customer soap box to yell like an angry union worker. Just try to avoid the sandwich boards with ‘The End is Nigh’ on them 😛
    Also give Sarigar his tukata.

  • Zasz

That letter is one of the worst “I jerk off to our accomplishments at running this game into a wall” postings of a company representative Ive seen in a long time. A huge letter lacking anything worth communicating, if you could call any of it communicating. I would not dream of hitting the send button on that text to any community.
Why cant they just say how they are going to adress the things we talk about on the forums? Is it that hard to actually talk to a community? Look at eve online, they do a much better job at communicating. They give you details, not empty promises. And they dont have four year old bugs.

    • Shin

Absolutely agree with you. CCP is much more customer oriented company. 11 years of stable successfull running proves this point.

      • Dru Ilhares

I don’t recall the official launch date, but Eve Online has been around since at least January of 2002, because that’s when I became a beta tester, the mail is still in my inbox. 🙂 While I don’t always agree with CCP’s choices (let’s not discuss the ship SKIN fookery), by and large they do a colossal job, and handle their playerbase far, far better than anything EA has or likely will ever do.

If only they’d been smart enough to release 514 for the PC market.

  • Bob

I enjoyed KOTFE. It’s a great story, and I like the variety of side quests. Plus, new PVP maps were sorely needed, even if there are bugs to still work out.

But we need a new freakin’ Operation. It is BEYOND past time. Story or not, this is still a MMO and KOTFE has killed many raiding guilds. We need multiple new operations, or I don’t see myself resubbing after KOTFE.

    • EyesOfGehenna .

So when you say “we”, you really mean “I”. That’s ok, but then just say that or at least define who this “we” is, because apparently most players don’t care about operations much.

      • Barlo

And what do they care about in PVE? the same chapters with same Star fortress and recruitment missions for every toon you have? I’ve started to play the game in pre-order early acces on 2011, and by this time I have 22 toons. Have you tried to compleat the exact same story for 22 times(11 times ligtside 11 times darkside)? And if players don’t care about ops what do you suggest? Flashpoints? They are pointless in tearms of gearing because you can get better gear by running some operations. In fact, SM ops drop better gear than HM FP. And gearing became tooooo easy in the game. What sence there is in crafting armor? At the beginings of the game you had to craft some gear, then go to challenging Flashpoint to get some tokens from last boss that allowed you to get some decent gear to do SM ops to. Then you had do some SM OPS and gear to be able to get a HM ops gear. And now? Now you Get all gear you want from just doing ops. Crafting? no need. Flashpoints? no need. Oh, And have I mentioned that all gear now have a mastery instead of class stat and all armor is adaptive instead of heavy/medium/light?

        • EyesOfGehenna .

I have 30 toons and 28 of them are level 65 and I also started in beta at the beginning in 2011. So that point you’re trying to make has no meaning to me.

          • Shawn Hargrave

30 toons holy shit hello 40 year old virgin jesus you must be legacy level 250 i bet to my god lol

          • Barlo

Still you haven’t gave me a response on the question I made. What do the people care about in PvE if not OPS?

          • Barlo

I’m still waiting for response on that question. Or you have nothing to response? WHAT. DO. THEY. CARE. ABOUT. IN. PVE?

      • Ben Gimson

Will you keep saying that when there’s only one or two servers left and most of the players are gone? Pretending everyone who isn’t happy is in the minority is childish.

You’re probably right though, most players don’t care about operations. Because BW already destroyed the raiding community.

        • All tanks are assholes

No, the “raiding community” destroyed its self by being a bunch of assholes. By kicking newbs that don’t know an Op rather then teaching them how to do it they have shrunk the ranks, you need new blood to keep things going. There is always turn over and you need replacements, but ragetanks don’t get that.

          • Shawn Hargrave

No EA destroyed the “raiding community” story mode is for newbs.

            • All tanks are assholes

Everyone was a newb at one time. I bet youre one of those tankragers that doesn’t bother to tell the newbs what they are doing wrong you just throw a tempertantrum, quit the group, and put the newbs on iggy.

              • Shawn Hargrave

no not really back when i played like everyone else i did ‘story mode’ first and like most people i “learned” my class from 1-50 so i had no need to rage at anyone or tell anyone their doing anything wrong if anything i was giving advice and being helpful

              • Indeed. Adult gamers “by age nr. & mentally” learn the Class on the way from lvl 1 to Maxies. Then wayyy more rdy for Ops’ing cause of that 🙂

            • True.. SM: Storymode & officially after 4.0 Patch changes it’s known as Softmode. As sad as it is :/

          • Partially true, but there are Newcomer Friendly Ops’ing teams out there. Or used to be before Eaware stopped giving Love for MMO Community.

Kind Regards: Sub since launch in #swtor & even bought Cartel Coins few times in 2015. Can say that given my share of support for Star Wars: The Old Republic 😛 Stopped buying after noticed that proper Mmo features didn’t come & even Galactic Starfighter didn’t get updates after Development was stopped in Autumn 2014 🙁

Chat system is outdated just as the Game-Engine. Dropping Sub before November’s automatic Renewal. Wish u & everyone else nice gaming in whatever game that is 🙂

        • EyesOfGehenna .

I never pretended anything of the sort. You’re just not very good at reading.

      • Shawn Hargrave

by “we” he means all the guilds who have left or are dying off due to lack of operations

  • Terry G Roberts

Whatever I still give them money. If you really have so many issues with the game it takes 10 seconds to push a button that will let u unsub. So keep complaining I’m sure they care.

    • Swine

      I did unsub.

      • Well done 🙂

Kind Regards: Sub since launch in #swtor & even bought Cartel Coins few times in 2015. • DURRR

They do care. Why do you think they wrote the letter? lmao

    • notafanboylikeyou

I did unsub, I just come to read fanboy remarks. This game is a joke and your apart of it. lol. I feel sorry for you, you must not know how good this game used to be, now it sucks, and not the good suck that your mom give, the kinda suck like smoking a pipe, but only isn’t the pot good, there is a huge crack so you don’t get a good hit kind of suck.

      • EyesOfGehenna .

your anti-fanboy rhetoric is stale. The game didn’t work for you and that’s fine but to pretend that your opinion is factual and therefore applies is to everybody is blind arrogance. Some people like the game for what it is, you focused on what it isn’t. Both sides make their own decisions accordingly. It’s not about right or wrong.

        • Shawn Hargrave

so you like paying 15 bucks for a solo game with maybe 5 minutes of new content a month? Kotor 1/2 is cheap as hell a million times better and your choices actually matter in them unlike tor. Hey you want to pay 15 bucks a month for a single player game be my guest lol

          • What a maroon

Youre a broken record, you already said that same thing above.

            • Shawn Hargrave

oh its the same guy who thinks you can play tor %100 free without a sub again lol

          • EyesOfGehenna .

Don’t confuse your opinion with facts. Your opinion is false in this case as it is. Although SWTOR has a lot of content you can solo, it still has a lot of group content and even more than some other MMOs that are out there. Sure it’s not new and I’d like some more of that but in my guild we run regular ops still because we like to hang out with each other and there is still some progression for us since we never did rush such things. Also doing Heroics together is fun. So no, it’s not a single player game. In a single player game I cannot group up with 4-24 people to do operations, flash points, warzones, heroics, world bosses, conquest commanders and such. So please, don’t lie. There is very little new group content, that is true….but that doesn’t mean there suddenly is no group content. That’s not the same and you know it. The moment I get bored with the game I will stop playing. That’s when it’s not worth that 15 bucks to me anymore. Until then…just ask yourself why you’re still emotionally invested in SWTOR to the point you have to keep posting here. What are you trying to prove with that anyway?

            • Shawn Hargrave

in case you hadnt noticed like most rampant fanbois is this site has more then swtor on it just fyi. So ill post on the games i play and dont play if you cant handle that “emotionally” i would suggest not investing your time here if you cant handle criticism. What are you trying to prove bieng a fluffer/fanboi for this game ea dont give a fuck about you they could care less they enjoy that your covered in shit and enjoy bieng underneath their portapotty and you pay 15 bucks for that privelage no thanks.

Tor is hardly multiplayer everything is done a small scale so the paper engine can handle the load. What i know is theres no new op’s the bread and butter of an mmo its raiders. Its why the raiding guilds are dying off. You keep paying to be shit on though good for you!

            • Lazaro Cabrera

grouping is fun, but time consuming. not everyone has the time to chat about strategics how to bring a boss down, then wait longer cause someones dog needs a walk, or someone needs a smoke break or someones baby is crying, blah ..blah..blah., we all have real lives to deal with, but if your going to group in a MMO then do just that group, wam-bam thank you mam on to the next content. the other people your grouping with have lives too and would like to get back to it.

            • Dru Ilhares

By definition, no opinion is false. He can surely be misinformed and delusional, but his opinion may still be quite real.

Facts are not subject to opinion. However, in a more supportive note, I’m glad to hear your guild is still together doing things. Mine certainly is not, and hasn’t for at least two years now.

If EA/BW offered a $100 purchase option to make the game a true single player thing (where I could play without servers), hell yeah, I’d sell blood to get that feature. Double if they let me have LAN play.

              • Indeed well put 🙂

“maybe 5 minutes of new content a month” New pvp content says hi. It may not be your thing, but pvp content really was added recently. Fact, not opinion.
Yes, that will last more than 5 minutes.

            • Lazaro Cabrera

lets face it, not hating on the pvpers. but the pvp in this game sucks, it never was really any good. I could name a dozen other games with much better pvp, and most of them are free. if pvp is anyone’s thing you guys should look else where.

              • Shawn Hargrave

yeah why i left fuck warzone instanced shit open world large raid action is where its at but the paper engine cant handle it lolz

              • Indeed can’t handle.. Ridiculous choice for CORE of the Product by Developers.. Core: Game-Engine.. :/ At Swtor’s Crew meeting in 2008 – 2010 before launch at late 2011: “Hey we are Eaware’s Developer team for Swtor & spend 60m + to Voice Over Payments & then choose highly Outdated Glitchy Game-Engine.. We don’t think furthen than few months or 1st year of this Upcoming Mmo.. ” Not much room for quality Expanding cause of Crap Core.

Shameful.. Just shameful.. :/ Shame that no Frostbite or CryEngine..

            • Content must be measured by the average time it takes to complete one cycle of the content, which for Warzones is generally between 7 and 15 minutes if memory serves. Replay value cannot be factored in, else it would yield very disproportionate results. For example, by your reasoning Super Smash Bros Melee’s VS mode alone could be considered to have tens of thousands of hours of content simply because it has the best replay value in the fucking universe. While it is important to consider the replay value of content, the content itself really can’t fairly be measured that way.

              – – – – – – { A wild tangent appears here } – – – – – –

Why not? Well, ask yourself this. What is Dread Palace worth as content? See what I mean? It differs greatly from player to player. A casual raider won’t feel it’s worth half as much as a hardcore NiM raider will, yet a dedicated PvPer probably won’t give two shits.

I’d also like to address the other part of your post. The assertion that a mention of PvP content can be used to defend SWTOR’s content output is laughable at best. In almost four and a half years, we’ve gotten how many new warzones and arenas? Hardly any, compared to what’s possible. While there have probably been slightly more than there have been operations (though I really don’t care enough to check that), such a comparison fails to factor in the time needed to develop each type of content. As someone who’s experienced with this sort of thing, I can tell you that Warzones, Arenas, whatever PvP-only instance it is, is a cakewalk compared to Operations. That’s not to say that Operations are these monstrous projects or anything (though they do take quite a bit of work), but the fact that PvP maps (of either type) don’t have to account for AI makes them a million times easier.

Now, granted, some PvP maps (like the new one, most likely) do have some extra stuff which would make them more challenging, but that’s entirely optional, and they haven’t gone anywhere with it. What do I mean by that? Look at the Warzones we have now. Pylons. Civil War. Novare. etc. Those elements could be applied to a new map, set on a new planet, with a new layout, but the same basic rules. Gameplay is totally fresh, but it’s still familiar, so it’s easy for players to get into. Bioware seems locked in this pattern of thinking it NEEDS to innovate every single time it makes a new PvP map. They finally did use this idea of using familiar elements in a different setting with Quesh Huttball. Yet even then they felt the need to add the new Huttball mechanic of Grappling Hooks in the map (the acid pits slowing victims was a slight change from the non-slowing fire but really just a tweak, and a nice one at that). I think they overestimate the desires of the PvP community. People are just bored sick of seeing the same few warzones over and over and over. Variety is the spice of life, and it’s NOT very hard to just make a new map with the same elements. The gametype coding is already there.

And don’t even get me started on Arenas. Those are literally the easiest things to make. I’ve made well over a hundred of that type of map. It’s not exactly rocket science.

            • Shawn Hargrave

thats if you can get the warzone to que lol and its not like you can choose the warzone now is it even so id still say 5 minutes

          • “Hey you want to pay 15 bucks a month for a single player game be my guest lol” <– Indeed as it turns out to be most expensive Singleplayer adventure "with some occasional Grp chances" ever made after some months 😀 :/

        • Annubis1991

First of all sorry for my english. Now…. If it comes to decisions and consequences, KOTOR 1/2 is waaay above ToR… sad but true. I just give one example… in 1 if you screw up Manaan you will never come back to this planet. In ToR literally everything what you do, will direct you from point A to point B, and it doesn’t matter what you do… the outcome is the same (maybe with some MINOR! changes). In fact also this game could have been 1000 times better, if not shitty (pre?)alpha engine they used on it, but still that’s just one case why this game is in bad shape. Sometimes it’s not worth to save money on things which can be critical in later time.

          • Unfortunately MMOs are a different beast. The Hero engine did limit SWTOR in many ways but I believe this was an intentional choice. By nature MMOs bring players together. Having an MMO where your choices have serious impact would be fun to play, but it’d be very uncommon and not a wise move for a game company that has never made an MMO before (a way of saying “we don’t understand the genre”). Years down the line they could and probably should make something along those lines (this IS Bioware we’re talking about, after all), but I don’t think this choice was based on engine limitations. It seems more like a conscious decision which makes sense in the context of the nature of MMOs.

    • Whitedragon

      ://

    • Ben Gimson

Well, yeah, they clearly do care otherwise they wouldn’t have posted this “all is well, please don’t leave, we’ll add content one day we promise” post. If there wasn’t a problem they wouldn’t be essentially begging players to hold on.

  • Yarazin

My main issue with the story stuff is I don’t ever feel like a hero… I need a companion, a super droid or a super backpack. I wish they just would have designed the solo stuff so it could be done without those things.

Though I do like the companions, just really HATE the super droid and super backpack.

  • Lithy

Ohh finaly ! I was waiting for the April’s fool of bioware !

A bit late, but for now, that wont surprise us ahah Im sure the reason is cuz u was working so so so hard on the game^^

  • maybe baby

I find it funny they are defending themselves and being defensive and every one is happy. To me sounds like there is an issue.

  • Aiko

“Recruitment missions to explore the galaxy with some of your favorite companions…”

    Good Joke.

    • Hah well said & sooo True… :/

  • Biofucks

This is a fucking MMO. The 2nd M doesn’t stand for “Mom, i love playing this game alone!”. This has turned into a First Person RPG and it’s sickening to people who love playing this game with friends and doing group content. All this dickwad said above, in a nuthsell, is that the game isn’t getting cancelled. At this point I wish it would….

    • EyesOfGehenna .

you can cancel it for yourself. No need to be so vindictive about it. In the end there are a lot of people enjoying the game still, in spite of all the flaws and these people like story content more than regular operation releases or a proper pvp set up. I wish those things were better also but I still enjoy what is there. I don’t have these hang ups because I like to be realistic and watch the bigger picture as well. The people like you who cry about it not being an MMO should realize that you are a minority in this game. I think in general MMOs are struggling, because as much as you want the group content, you might just be one of those people who yells at people who make mistakes, ragequits after a few wipes in pugs and generally expects people to know what they’re doing before they join your group. You might even be someone who checks achievements and gear of other people. Most of that is very understandable but it’s also the type of behavior that ensures that you will stay a minority. Reality is that operations ended up as a lower priority because most people weren’t even setting foot in the newer operations. If you don’t understand that this has to do with the players just as much as anything else or more, well, you will forever remain frustrated about this.

      • Gaf Jones

Yup, I can’t stand group content – largely because it’s the playground of these weird half-mature weirdos. But the increased solo stuff got me resubbed for the first time since the game came out.

        • Shawn Hargrave

if its solo content you seek kotor 1/2 are a million times better and do not require a sub.

          • Gaf Jones

Aye, I’ve played them both to death and back. I’m early days with KOTFE, but so far it’s keeping pace as a successor.

And it is the successor. It’d be aggravating not to play it.

          • What a maroon

Why would you go back to that old game? You can solo play this much superior game solo, without a sub.

            • Shawn Hargrave

the story you cant all the way /smh and the old game is better and superior to tor.

              • What a maroon

You can play free as far as you got to when you unsubbed. And as long as the game is up you can play that far on new characters all you want. This game has far more solo replay ability then KOTOR. 8 class stories to 1. And face it KOTOR looks like crap compared to min settings on this game. It’s you’re opinion that KOTOR is better and from what I’ve seen that opinion is crap.

              • Shawn Hargrave

you have to be subbed to play the entire story thats not free. You are not a true kotor fan i see lol. Your not bieng upfront or honest about the f2p though i smell raging fanboism

              • EyesOfGehenna .

The smell will go away as soon as you close your mouth for a few minutes. Of course the chapters are not free and people can make their choice accordingly.

              • Shawn Hargrave

the smell is fanboism which you reek of. I had to explain what your saying to the carebear above who didnt get that.

              • Lazaro Cabrera

I agree KOTOR is a much better solo game, and it has a great story. The only story in SWTOR that mimics the KOTOR story in a way is the Jedi Knight story arc. I played through KOTOR a dozen times, each time using different play styles and powers which all were very gratifying experiences. For those of you who say nay to the older graphics engine, I ask you this .have you played Minecraft lately? if the answer is yes, then KOTOR’s graphics should not matter.

    • Whitedragon

      D’oh!

  • Alek

15-20 minutes of cut scenes are not worth a monthly subscription. The “50 operations bosses” that are “challenging again” I’ve defeated when they were challenging in the first place, many, many, many times, some of them 4+ years old. Boosted damage and health of bosses in old content is not worth a monthly subscription. Just about every fun/nice/fluff item being tied to the cash-shop is not worth a monthly subscription. And lastly, apologetic and defensive letters aren’t worth a sub. And yes I am unsubbed, just felt compelled to express my disappointment again.

    • Whitedragon

      lol

    • Shawn Hargrave

you make good posts dude never apoligize for posting its a discussion forum for everyone here = )

      • Yeah Exactly. Freedom of Saying your Opinion 🙂

    • Lazaro Cabrera

Bravo, I’m right behind you, been here since beta, only let my sub run out once just to try F2P.
The F2P experience is cut down so much that they force you to sub to get the perks. Just need to muster the nerve to hit that cancel button.

      • Shawn Hargrave

i did that very easily when ilum got shut down no open world pvp zone no $$ from me

    • Swtor’s Sad Development Well Summed up 🙂

  • Gonadius

I stopped playing back in December. I’d have happily paid for the expansion, but this sub-based way of selling it just irritates me. I’ll use one of the game cards I bought years ago when the final chapter is out.

    • Whitedragon

      :/

  • Tacos

It’s about time until ship sinks.I’ve never seen so many errors since 2012,and it gets boring u know.

  • Lol

Is it just me, or does this letter have “Pretty please, guys, don’t leave, we’re going to do better, promise” written all over it?

    • Whitedragon

      yep

  • lolol

All those supporters, and QA still has to be done by the janitor during his smoke breaks?

  • Vendrine

    The meme is too strong…

  • Ben Fuller

I disagree with some of this. Kotfe has in my opinion been lackluster at best. Short chapters. Barely able to engage on story as it’s broken down into to short of a story an each seem separate stories rather than an over ruching star wars story.

The quality of life changes have been ok but the first level sync is a joke. I hate being forced to sync down.

Recruitment missions tediously boring or long. Qyzen quest is an example. Only got him on one toon as either call the mobs on hot are dead before I get there or I fail to find groups for world bosses.

With companions they have imo made the system a standing joke. They have gone with quantity over quality. No actual new story background to them.
No new companion missions or romance options for them.

While I love solo play I think this game has really taken a step away from the mmo style for no other reason than single player story.

Don’t get me wrong I will come back for each chapter but game can no longer hold my attention once it’s completed on one character. I hope what they have planned for after these last few chapters is really good and brings back proper attention but I doubt It. A good game still yes but not a great one like it used to be

    • Lazaro Cabrera

“the first level sync is a joke. I hate being forced to sync down.” I agree they did this so they can use the planet Heroics into their new model, talk about lack of originality. Makes you not want to level cause your level does not matter in this game any more. and not just with planet sync, but end game group content as well.

      • Ben Fuller

I agree. Level sync was just done to make heroic missions fit into there plan and the couldn’t be bothered to look at an alternative. However level sync isn’t a bad idea if you wanna play with a friend or rp a master and apprentice type of thing but it should have been optional.

The less said about endgame right now the better lol. That will to on for hours with most people saying same thing. What endgame hehe

        • Shawn Hargrave

i think level sync was to fight credit farmers more then anything but they made it mandatory cant even turn that shit off lol

  • Bad Dash

I was a subscriber since 2.0 continuously but quit shortly after KOTFE came out. I loved the initial chapters, but after I had finished them, all that remained was old content, and the odessa alliance grind. This episodic crap, while entertaining for a short while, is just not enough. Not enough to merit my sub, not even enough to merit my time.

5 months later not even a new operation in sight. Glad I did not stick around.

    • Dredd

You did stick around in the damn forums though so something wrong must be happening with you or you still searching for the perfect game.
Good Luck cos it doesn’t exists and it never will…………….

      • Bad Dash

Oh yeah because dulfy is ONLY about swtor amirite? Idiot. What’s your point even? Play a game you don’t like anymore because it’s not worth doing anything else? Trollllllll

        • Shawn Hargrave

yeah i get that response from the carebears to funny thing is i come here more for gw2 stuff and now bdo that im playing more then i ever would for tor but the carebears act like this is strictly a tor only site lol

        • Well said 🙂

  • Dave

I was excited by the new attention to story, but that has proven far too little to keep my attention. I subscribe in 6 month chunks so there is time for the game to get better, but for now I only put in a little time each new chapter. It does not help that the story line is going in a no-star warsy direction.

Good luck and I hope it pans out. If it does not I would like to see a single player adventure as we had in the begining.

  • Shawn Hargrave

well ben irving thanking for reminding me why i no longer play tor and will continue not to. Basically this in a nutshell says we want people to give us 15 bucks a month for kotor 3 with less and less online features. No thanks ill enjoy kotor 1/2 and be reminded of time when bioware wasnt destroyed and gutted by electronic assholes.

What the emphasis should have been on is their determination to fix bugs better and use the pts more instead its we have support for more bugs that wont be fixed.

I sincerely hope were getting to the end of this trainwreck soon. Tor could have been so much but the never ending incompetence and EA’S meddling and gambling packs and carebear/fanbois who shovel this shit by the truckloads has just destroyed what could have been a great game had EA hadnt been cheapasses buying an alpha hero engine to save money….

    • TheCulprit

oh, I was wondering what EA stood for. Thanks.

      • Dru Ilhares

It’s been a number of years, but it used to be ECA (yes, I’m old). Electronic Arts shortened it, and then apparently just started emulating Microsoft, buying up every studio they could and grinding it into the dirt.

I remember when people actually respected Bioware.

    • Matthew Langley

You might be enlightened if you step back and consider that as much as you are genuine in your dislike of the game there are people that are just as genuine in their like of the game. Life will seem less negative too in general.

There are *plenty* of MMOs out there, go to one you like to play and complain in those comment sections.

Holy shit you really are just making a post after every negative post aren’t you?

Lol that’s cool, I’ll just call you out every time I see you do this.

You either work for EA/Bioware or get off having that “last word.” You sir are hilarious, and I mean I am laughing at you not with you.

        • Yes.. so mind boggling 😮 😀 :/

      • Shawn Hargrave

You might be enlightened if you step back and realize that its ok if people disagree with you instead of telling them to go elsewhere because you cant handle criticism. Its ok to like/dislike tor people are entitled to their opinions its not about negativitity its about opinion

Btw i play gw2/bdo this site isnt purely about tor ya know.

        • Matthew Langley

I’m fine with people disagreeing with me, hence I recognized your dislike as genuine. You expressed a very high level of dislike reflected in comments like:

“I sincerely hope were getting to the end of this trainwreck soon.”

Honestly why would you keep playing a game you have such harsh comments about? I mean fair enough that you do, you can do what you want, though there are so many MMOs out there, many people like SWTOR as is (obviously they don’t think it’s perfect but they all don’t think it’s a trainwreck) and that’s fine, one game doesn’t have to be the best fit for everyone.

“its not about negativitity its about opinion”

Well I’ll give you it’s about negative opinion… but those statements are extremely negative:

“I sincerely hope were getting to the end of this trainwreck soon.”
“be reminded of time when bioware wasnt destroyed and gutted by electronic assholes.”
“never ending incompetence and EA’S meddling and gambling packs and carebear/fanbois who shovel this shit by the truckloads”

Are you seriously saying those aren’t negative? Again being negative and an opinion aren’t mutually exclusive and with such strongly negative viewpoints why are you here, unless you either enjoy complaining (fair enough), pain (since you apparently see this as painful), or are exaggerating…. or something else I’m missing.

          • Shawn Hargrave

an opinion is an opinion negative or positive. Im here because like i said i play gw2/bdo and it is a discussion forum which you dont seem to understand. Theres no requirement that i have to play tor to post here i mostly post here out of laughs and to discuss this failing pos.

People who cant handle the truth or criticism about things get mad and tell people to leave. Its a discussion forum and you need to get used to opposing opinions its ok if you think tor is the wowkiller and theres other mmos out there and all this i disagree as the majority here seems to as well.

            • Don’t go into this rolling train what Indoctrinated Eaware & Swtor Fanboi is on.

Wish u nice gaming in whatever game that is & R.I.P. Goodiness in Swtor :/

    • Well said.. very well indeed 🙂

Kind Regards: Mmo’er since 2004 & Sub since launch in #swtor & even bought Cartel Coins few times in 2015.

  • Vincent van der Laan

wish they removed auto op stats on companion and give them their old unique ness back where u can gear u comps and can show off u pro with u companion fully augmented in 224 gear

    • New a don’t understand gearing

I think part of the reason they they did that is no one wants to hear all 900 comps. Ohh and to dumb it down.

    • Indeed.. Such Idiotic gameplay Simplification for Lazymode casuals & even some Non casuals.. Kids & Adults who asked for that.. Shameful 🙁

  • Shawn Hargrave

    well said

    • Whitedragon

      lol

  • Majmo Mendez

Well, if you think that EA of all of the gaming companies would support a dying game, you’re quite delusional. So I’m inclined to believe that SWTOR is doing fine.

    • IgnoranceIsBliss

Ignorance is bliss… clearly you have never played a game EA shuts down. They start by moving/losing developers/team members then they cut all major game changing projects that require heavy resources/skill to develop and then they focus on copy and paste small visual change content while peppering in rehashed old content they label as “new” all to milk every last dollar out of the fools that continue to stick their heads in the sand and deny the inevitable truth.

      • Matthew Langley

I’m sorry but your ignorance is even more overwhelming. Yes a game can die a slow death… most MMOs are on that trajectory, even WoW has been in decline since it’s peak.

It’s not a matter of if an MMO will die (minus maybe Classic EQ which seems to go on forever) but when, the best scenario is them reaching a state like Classic EQ where it seems they can reach a cost balance to run it with continued but limited development.

If SWTOR was losing money, or didn’t offer any current viability it would be shut off plain and simple. It will continue to run until it hits that point. That point could be next month, next year, or ten years from now.

Btw the pattern you describe is the monetization strategy for nearly every successful online based micro transaction game in any market, from day one. That’s not a sign of death that’s a sign of following the current successful way to monetize a game, which is a good thing if you want the game to continue.

        • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

Here you are again. I’m going to count just how many times you try to reply to posts 6-8 days old championing swtor.

Like I said above “Are you just posting after every negative post? I saw at least 3 other
posts that you posted after that expressed a negative sentiment about
the game. Also it seems as if you are only doing this well after the OP
has given up on the thread so you can have the “last say” and make your
          replies look good.”

          • Yep.. Here he went on again.. 😮 😀 :/

    • Mittens the Cat

      Define “support.”

I, personally, “support” lots of causes to which I have NEVER contributed a dime of my money or a second of my time.

What type of support is BW getting? Financial? Personnel? A laurel and hearty handshake?

  • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

This was drafted to try and appeal to the players in an attempt to stem the flow of people leaving/unsubbing.

“I don’t often make posts in the forums, in fact, this may be my first ever post.” Wait, you don’t even know if you’ve posted before? How can we trust that you know anything else then? Lol, it’s sad really.

KoTFE is the most successful expac they’ve ever released? Notice he doesn’t say by what metric he’s basing that statement off of. Only that it got “critical acclaim” and that’s hardly true.

“Knights of the Fallen Empire represents the pinnacle of this troubled
MMORPG’s storytelling prowess, but unfortunately its other elements fall
short. The overly easy combat is a sad shadow of what Star Wars: The
Old Republic has offered in the past, and the endgame leans too much on
recycled content and samey instances.” – Leif Johnson http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/12/11/star-wars-the-old-republic-knights-of-the-fallen-empire-review

“Why KoTFE will suck to play with friends… and How to Mitigate the Damage” http://swtorista.com/articles/why-kotfe-will-suck-to-play-with-friends-and-how-to-mitigate-the-damage/

And that’s only two of the ones I found. Admittedly there were some reviewers that liked it overall, but still found things they didn’t like just not enough to put them off and give a bad review. Such as:

“It might sound like there is as much to dislike about Knights of the
Fallen Empire as there is to like, but I do have to say that my overall
experience has been positive and I really can’t wait for things to pick
up in the new year. Unfortunately, there were indeed compromises made to
make some of the more compelling features of the expansion possible,
but the overall package is still excellent.” -Michael Bitton http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/367/view/reviews/load/408/Knights-of-the-Fallen-Empire-Boldly-Pushes-Forward.html

So really where is this “critical acclaim?” Oh wait it must be in his own mind and that of the other EA/Bioware morons because it sure doesn’t seem to be from any reviewers. I really wish the EA/Biofail propaganda machine would stop trying to feed us a line of bullshit because I for one really don’t enjoy the taste.

    • Dread Master Ozariah

Well you know, game can’t be perfect. It is just impossible. I am sure there are a lot of people, who enjoy swtor at the current state and don’t get a fuck about someone’s whines.

    • Matthew Langley

Basically you complained about SWTOR marketing itself like every other damn product in the world lol. Obviously they are going to focus on the positive aspects, obviously they are going to say it’s the most successful expansion yet even if it’s just based on one metric (though it could be based on more, we simply don’t know).

Yeah it’s vague, like every other message from every other company about every product. Where have you been?

I mean I just watched a Porsche 911 commercial that said the only car that could beat a 911 was the new 911. Obviously that’s not true for every metric, how fast it goes around every track, top speed, etc… but even if it’s one single metric they market it like it’s absolutely true… and they are a highly respected and sought after brand.

This is nothing new, why would you expect this specific game and the companies involved to be completely different than every other game, company, and product out there.

      • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

Are you just posting after every negative post? I saw at least 3 other posts that you posted after that expressed a negative sentiment about the game. Also it seems as if you are only doing this well after the OP has given up on the thread so you can have the “last say” and make your replies look good.

Do you work for EA/Bioware public relations? If so tell them the money would be better spent making new content. It would create less complaints and they wouldn’t have to pay you to troll the threads trying to contradict every negative comment you see.

You fail in this effort btw. If you want to negate my argument attack my argument, don’t try to tell me what I said and then attack your “interpretation” of my point. That’s just shitty debating skills.

So just to clarify, I called into question whether they had actually gotten “critical acclaim” and gave evidence to the contrary. If you want to contradict that back it up with something. Otherwise you’re just blowing smoke same as EA/Bioware and are just as uncredible.

        • He’s strange Indoctrinated Eaware’s Swtor Fanboi.. Don’t mind about him 🙂

I read the comments below and only I remembered, there is a starfighter feature in the game? )))))) Noone mentioned it )))

  • EyesOfGehenna .

Community: Whhaaaaa no communication!!!. —- BW communicates —- Community: Whaaaaaaaa their communication sucks!!!! You guys are the paragons of self-engrossed, entitled, first-world problem bearing, self-proclaimed victims. Not sure whether I want to laugh about this or not. Either play the game when you like it or get over it. SWTOR is a game, not an ex-girlfriend that you just can’t let go of….or is it?

    • Stupid Genius

      You are absolutely right

    • Biower pls

“Communication” implies an exchange of information between participants. This letter makes it pretty clear that they disregard all the messages the community have been sending them since 4.0 dropped. So, no. This isn’t “communication”. This is what it is in reality:

      http://cdn2.mommyish.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/pat-back.gif

      • Matthew Langley

Yes because 1/4th of the post being about mistakes made, apologizing for it and explaining how they are trying to improve on that should just be completely ignored.

People’s selective reading is simply amazing.

        • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

Yes because saying “we’re sorry there have been a few bugs, we’ll try to do better” is all it takes to negate 3/4 of the post being a pat on the back.

How very objective of you. And you have the nerve to bring up selective reading? Really? Lol, man you are so funny. I wish I had a clown like you at every birthday party for the rest of my life.

If you ever have a post that isn’t pure opinion trying to just contradict someone else’s let me know, until then i can always use a good laugh.

          • Matthew Langley

Yes, because apparently posting Saved by the Bell gifs is more than just pure opinion… right.

Accuse me of having selective reading, fine… though adults don’t need to result to personal insults.

            • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

You can any opinion you want, but at the same time so can everyone else.
What isn’t an opinion is that out of 48 lines of text 9, or less than 1/5, is the apology and the rest is saying how good of a job they think they did.

As you have in more than one of your posts, you fail to address the entirety of a statement and only focus on as much as the comment you want to post will allow you to.

I reiterate “pure opinion trying to just contradict someone else’s.” You don’t just post our own opinion for others to see and contemplate. You only post in response to someone else’s opinion. And mostly, only when that opinion is negative.

It’s the main reason I think you work for EA/Bioware.

As for personal insults, don’t get all righteous with me pall. 1. your last sentence implies I am not an adult which is a personal insult. 2. You used the phrase “Even worse than the people you listed are people like you” which is clearly meaning to insult the person.

If you’re referring to me calling you a clown and a d-bag, well I call it how I see it. If that offends you, too bad. It’s my opinion based from objective observation of your behavior in this thread.

              • Matthew Langley

Not surprised you deflected when confronted about personally insulting someone who disagrees with you. Nothing I said was a direct insult, the harshest thing I said was that adults don’t need to personally insult eachother… vs clown and d-bag. I simply disagreed with your posts and others, I’m comfortable with disagreeing with people without insulting them, something you may want to think about.

Also you posted a Saved by the Bell gif as your primary point and your upset that I posted purely opinion. Interesting.

              • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

Sigh….Ok first of all I didn’t post the gif. But as you clearly didn’t bother to look before you posted, I will direct your attention to the difference in the names. If you think that just because we are both posting using guest accounts that means we are the same person, you are even less intelligent than your post would lead me to believe.

As for the personal insults, I’m not deflecting. I’m owning that shit. I wrote what I wrote because it’s my actual opinion of you based on what I’ve seen you do in this thread period. I do however think it’s hilarious that you think you’re so much better because you merely condescend instead of calling a name. That’s called minimizing which is a type of deflection the thing you’re trying to say I’m doing. Lol, what a joke.

I’m starting to think you may just be looking for attention.

              • Matthew Langley

I stand corrected, you did not post the gif, you were defending the gif post… So basically you are just trolling multiple comments I posted.

Huh… guest account so the same person? You are really stretching to insult me aren’t you… I mean really stretching. Apparently you can’t go but a post or so without resulting to petty insults.

Yes my posts were a bit snarky, like the tone of nearly every other post in this comments section… you do realize that even if you didn’t post the gif I responded to a post that had a Saved by the Bell gif, that definitely sets a tone. I’m fine owning my snarkiness, heck even some condescension. On par or less than most the comments here, but I’ll own it…. yet again I did not resort to direct personal insults. Why? Because I have standards and hold myself to them… not always but I try. If you can’t understand the difference between some snarky comments and direct person insults then there’s no point in continuing to talk about it and quite honestly I have no desire to continue talking to someone who at least has a base level of adult maturity (avoiding direct personal insults is a pretty low bar).

You suggest I want attention when you are trolling my comments specifically on this post. You realize the irony right?

To address your non troll part of your postings, which quite honestly is more time than I or anyone should give to someone who unapologetically resorts to person insults.

“You can any opinion you want, but at the same time so can everyone else.

What isn’t an opinion is that out of 48 lines of text 9, or less than 1/5, is the apology and the rest is saying how good of a job they think they did.”

First, yes roughly 1/5th of it is an apology, though just because the rest isn’t an apology doesn’t make it all about saying how good of a job they did. You are highly generalizing. For example only one sentence out of the first paragraph (out of three):

“My name is Ben Irving, Producer for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Obviously giving his name and title isn’t self praising. The last sentence is clearly identifying and admitting a problem… not self praising.

Describing what they are working on, communicating that it involves voice actor work and mocap is far from fully self praising either. Honestly that’s transparency most players have been asking for with little bits of positive spin, as every single game company on the planet does.

Maybe half of it roughly is self praising, probably less if you were to go sentence by sentence or even more granular.

So yes there is some self praising… there is also a lot of admitting of problems, again as you yourself pointed out roughly 20% of the entire post is an apology and explaining how they plan to address quality concerns.

                So yes what you said:

“What isn’t an opinion is that out of 48 lines of text 9, or less than 1/5, is the apology and the rest is saying how good of a job they think they did.”

Was an opinion… one that I challenge as incorrect and I disagree with based on the above.

You criticize me for being a bit condescending, look in a mirror, seriously man you really should take a step back. If you can’t or choose not to keep yourself from resulting to personal insults on a comments section in an MMO news forum then you really need to evaluate some thing. Believe me or not I genuinely and sincerely mean that. Re-read what I said and what you said, nothing I said qualifies for the level of attack you chose.

This will be my last response to you if you resort to personal insults again, it simply is a line of behavior I don’t wish to encourage and spend my time addressing.

Everything I said was simply disagreeing, nothing more, I never directly personally insulted those I disagreed with, I obviously implied I felt I was correct and I viewed some arguments as ridiculous (well and a Saved by the Bell gif is pretty ridiculous, come on now that’s not unreasonable of me to think so lol). I am *fully* comfortable agreeing to disagree and people having different opinions than me, hence no need to get defensive and resort to personal attacks.

              • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

Wow nice wall of text. I’ll give it’s readability a 3 at best.

So lets take your comments one at a time

No I’m not trolling your comments. I’m calling you out on them. As I stated before multiple times and you have ignored each time. You never posted 1 original post only replied to someone who had a negative opinion and tried to condescendingly contradict them. You did this long after they had obviously given up on the thread. This makes your comments completely irrelevant to any level of discussion. You didn’t just state your opinion either, you basically bash the person you are arguing against. If you can’t understand why this is repugnant there is more wrong than I realized. I notice you aren’t posting in any of the newer threads so I’m probably right on the money. It seems as if you only want to post when you think you have a good shot at talking smack to someone who will never respond.

You are a total hypocrite, you say I’m deflecting then become it’s poster boy. You aren’t owning your condescension, you make excuse after excuse for it. Who cares if it’s a “saved by the bell gif?” I thought that shit was funny. Who cares if other people post condescending replies, they aren’t doing it a week after the fact and 40 times in a thread at everyone who had a negative opinion. I’m glad you don’t want to reply to me anymore, that just means 1 less nonsense reply I have to correct you on.

Ok I’ll grant that more than 9 of the 48 lines were more than self congratulation, but if even 50% of it were that just means 50% of that letter should have been deleted. I don’t care what his opinion of the game is. I can make my own opinion or get an unbiased third party opinion thank you very much.

You claim they are giving out info worth communicating. “Honestly that’s transparency most players have been asking for with little bits of positive spin” Seriously? You have a distorted view of reality. “We’re working on animations and voice overs” isn’t worth the time it takes to type it. It certainly isn’t the level of info I or anyone else who has a modicum of intelligence has been asking or hoping for. All that tells us is they are working on something, which really tells us nothing.

I’ll finish with more about the the name calling. In short get over yourself. You don’t want to be called a clown or a d-bag? Don’t act like one.

              • Matthew Langley

“I’ll finish with more about the the name calling. In short get over yourself. You don’t want to be called a clown or a d-bag? Don’t act like one.”

Conversation ceased. Sorry but I don’t waste my time talking with people who can’t at least avoid personal insults *shrug*. It’s not about getting over myself, its about you getting over yourself. Resorting to insults is easy, lowering your standards is easy, it’s far harder to hold yourself to a line of acceptability and to resist immature urges to hurt insults rather than substance at people… It takes restraint and treating the other person with at least some level of respect. It’s about not putting your own immature desire to be petty at such a low level below the respect (even if little) for the other person.

If you can’t even agree on that very base level of human civilized communication, of basic etiquette of the most base level of mature communication then we have nothing to talk about.

              • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

The fact that you once again ignore a direct challenge to your own actions while focusing on the trivial is just more evidence that I was right on with your motivations.

“Conversation ceased” why even bother to respond at all if all you were going to do was restate what you had said multiple times already? Is it because you’re attempting to seeming take the moral high road, while in actuality only be deflecting attention away from your own petty, immature, cowardly actions?

Honestly this has nothing to do with any topic even remotely related to this thread. It’s just more attention seeking behavior.

              • Well said :)))

  • Andre

I came to see what changed in about 2 months I have not played and see this? All I can say is ROFL.

  • John Kosto

    1. Chapter XII: Visions in the Dark – a high quality chapter
    2. We had the launch of Knights of the Fallen Empire – 9 incredible story driven chapters
    3. we have built great supporting content
    4. we have some REALLY cool stuff to talk about later this year
    5. Knights of the Fallen Empire is the most successful expansion we have ever produced
    6. It received critical acclaim from press and fan sites
    7. In the eyes of all of our partners, SWTOR is a huge success
    8. It’s because of you, our players, that this game continues to thrive.

Ben Irving, thank you for convincing me to not renew my current sub status when it expires. I literally just pressed the button to cancel the subscription. If you need to mention (more than) 8 times what an awesome job you are doing, even though this is far from the truth, then it becomes a matter of principle, and not a matter of whether I can afford it anymore. Because it guarantees that the next material you release will be inadequate.

Next time, you can let US decide if you have a built a “great” game with “great supporting content” and how “incredible” your chapters are. To me, all of that sounds like a huge FU to the players who still support the game, not a thank you. I will be waiting for my HK themed vibrator to go do that.

    • Whitedragon

      lmao!

    • Shawn Hargrave

      good post well said

    • Lazaro Cabrera

Nicely said, HK themed item should have a meat bag setting. lol

    • Yeah, there was certainly a shit-ton of horn trumpeting going on in that blog post. Those posts, their past YouTube videos, their recent livestreams… BW doesn’t seem to have any target audience in mind. Like, they claim this is a letter to the SWTOR players, so how would they be so stupid as to tell us it’s a good game when we already have our own experiences that we obviously value more than their words. It’s like their goal is for us to value their words less. This self-affirmation hilarity reminds me of this (for 8-9 seconds)

On a completely different note, I certainly won’t miss YOU, of all people XD

Well, my subscription ends in August, so don’t hold your breath! Besides, the amount of fucks given whether you miss me or not, is equal to the effect of the exploiters on the game’s economy. Zero. xD

        • Well said 🙂 Wish u nice gaming in whatever game that is 🙂

Kind Regards: Mmo’er Since 2004 & Sub since launch in #swtor & even bought Cartel Coins few times in 2015.

    • Matthew Langley

Yeah… that’s one way to interpret everything… Of course you could read at as trying to give players insight into the very complex partner relationship of a Star Wars themed MMO, where many players have commonly wondered if everyone is happy and/or committed to it. You could interpret it as him trying to give people a bit of that perspective and visibility that people don’t normally get. That obviously he’s going to pitch the upsides since it would be stupid to be a completely negative post, that maybe what he says is true and maybe there is a lot of support for the game (or not, your choice of whether to believe him or not). I mean he did devote a big section to admitting the mistakes made… and MMO communities are *never* happy with the state of their MMO (don’t remember the level of whining back in original EQ days that I see now in every MMO forum).

Or you could interpret it in the worst possible way… Your choice.

      • John Kosto

Or you could just try to understand someone else’s views and opinions about this game, instead of trying to force your perspective on other people as well. I have been defending this game to friends and people on social websites occasionally, because I still think it’s a game with a lot of potential and a pretty solid direction from 2013 to 2015. I was even excited AFTER KOTFE was released, because it seemed very promising,

That doesn’t mean I will live in my bubble and pretend everything is great because some Bioware person tells me everything is ok. By the way, there is absolutely NOTHING in his announcement that I didn’t know already. I know this game has support. I know what they are actively doing since last year. I even know which direction it will go too, since apparently they are interested in making profit from short term subscriptions and Cartel Coins. All of their cartel packs, their promotions, their way to reward subscriptions and their marketing, has been towards that.

By the way, do you seriously think that active SWTOR players who have committed their time to this game since 2 or 3 or even almost 5 years ago, are generally satisfied and think the game is awesome? News flash. Most have quit. The ones that have not quit, devote a small fraction of the time that they used to devote. My guild (as everyone’s guild according to every single discussion I’ve had about this game) is not raiding 5 times a week anymore, but instead it does that maybe once or twice if we’re lucky. The grinding for KOTFE is so boring and mundane, that no one even ever does that anymore and it’s only been 7 months since it was released.

I don’t CHOOSE to interpret anything in the worst possible way. This is actually the most optimistic way to see this game. If you read other people’s comments, then you’ll see what most people really think about the “state of the galaxy”.

        • Matthew Langley

          You said:
“I don’t CHOOSE to interpret anything in the worst possible way. This is actually the most optimistic way to see this game.”

I respond to that quoting you:
“Or you could just try to understand someone else’s views and opinions about this game, instead of trying to force your perspective on other people as well.”

          • John Kosto

Yeah, I don’t think I need to specify every time I express my ideas that this is my personal opinion. If you feel that I tried to imply that you should see the game the same way… I am sorry. Not my intention. You can be as optimistic and as open-minded about Bioware’s announcements as you want. For me, it has gone to a point where I want to see actions instead of words.

            • Matthew Langley

The amount of extra words and context you keep adding to mine is fairly impressive.

Nothing I said suggested you can’t have a point… or that your point is intrinsically invalid. I simply disagreed with your point and to me it looks like you are interpreting the post in the worst possible way… turning praise on how well the expansion has done in some areas into a negative, while ignoring a large paragraph admitting mistakes and explaining how they were trying to improve it.

You followed up to that with

“I literally just pressed the button to cancel the subscription. ”

Quite dramatic and represents my point, that you took a fairly neutral and non-inflammatory post in the worst possible way.

You can of course disagree with me disagreeing with you… or you can say things like:

“Or you could just try to understand someone else’s views and opinions about this game, instead of trying to force your perspective on other people as well”

Also to respond to a specific point you made:
“If you read other people’s comments, then you’ll see what most people really think about the “state of the galaxy”.”

Well, more accurately that’s how you can see what the loudest people really think about the “state of the galaxy”… The people who are fine with the game (on average, every game has issues) are too busy playing to complain too much.

              • John Kosto

Man, whatever you say…. the problem with your last paragraph is that since I do play this game enough (a few hours per day, not every day), these comments are very very common in game as well. Of course you can ignore all of that. You can ignore the dozens of guild members most guilds have lost over the last few months, the lower amount of group finder pops, and basically, you can just ignore every part of the game that ruins your fantasy.

And yes, I wanted to stress that I cancelled my subscription, because that announcement insulted my intelligence. Reading the title, I thought I was actually going to read something honest. Something like “we fucked up, we are sorry” or “you know what, we tried, but the experiment didn’t work” or something like “this is how we want this game, I am sorry to everyone that was used to the game focusing on new ideas, operations, events etc, but from now on this is it” or even something neutral and non-inflammatory as you said. Maybe it appeared this way to you, but it sure did not appear that way to me.

              • Matthew Langley

“these comments are very very common in game as well”

That doesn’t disagree with my comment. The people who are playing the game by regularly bashing the game from within it are usually the loudest people as well, many people sit silent and are busy playing.

This is not unique to SWTOR, this is the same experience I’ve encountered in every MMO I’ve played over the last 16+ years… It’s increased over time as well, more people play MMOs now than before but every single one of them has a loud complainers. This point does not completely dismiss potential issues with the game that should be fixed… you should be a little less insecure.

“Reading the title, I thought I was actually going to read something honest. Something like “we fucked up, we are sorry” or “you know what, we tried, but the experiment didn’t work” ”

You realize the second paragraph starts with:

“First off, I want to apologize for some of the issues you have experienced in the last couple of months. The monthly chapter release schedule is new and it has come with some unexpected bugs. It has caused problems for some of you and I want to say I am sorry. At our core, the SWTOR team are all gamers, just like you. We empathize with the excitement of wanting to play a great game only to be blocked by a problem. ”

Pretty much a paraphrase of what you said you wanted to read…

              • John Kosto

Nope, this is not at all what I wanted to read, and I shouldn’t need to explain it to you. The only apology in that announcement, the one you quoted right here, refers exclusively on the bugs of the game. I actually never had an issue with bugs, nor did I mention bugs in any of my responses. I understand they happen, and I know that programming is much harder than most people think it is. In fact, the Revan expansion is my favorite, even though it was the one with the most bugs and the whole Ravagers exploit clusterfuck.

In fact, if anything, the paragraph you quoted REPEATS that the game is great, and identifies the only problem being that one could not play it, because of the bugs.

At this point I think that you either work for Bioware, or you are trolling me, there is no other explanation…

              • Matthew Langley

“At this point I think that you either work for Bioware, or you are trolling me, there is no other explanation…”

I reply to that again quoting you:

“Or you could just try to understand someone else’s views and opinions about this game, instead of trying to force your perspective on other people as well.”

You realize there are people who have differing opinions that you right? That it doesn’t have to be taken as a personal thread or “trolling” just because I disagree lol. Just because you aren’t fine with the game doesn’t mean everyone has to feel the same… basically exactly what you said to me, but back at you.

              • John Kosto

Well, the only logical assumption is that you are trolling me, because I can’t possibly believe you are being honest with yourself about all of the above, when at the same time you have replied to EACH AND EVERYONE who has a negative opinion about Bioware, the current status of SWTOR, and their announcement.

Seriously, you are trying to convince EVERYONE on this topic that somehow your opinion should be valued more, while others lack perspective or how it’s only a very few people that are vocal (LOL) or how they communicate with players (LOL again). Get off that high horse of yours and maybe we could have a discussion about the issue at hand. I told you before already, I am perfectly fine with you enjoying your game time. Feel free to spend dozens of hours playing SWTOR every week. And give them as much money as you want. No one is stopping you.

              • Shawn Hargrave

oh dont worry hes taken out a loan to play tor and 3 mortgates! he owns multiple strongholds and has the eternal championship mount respect him damit!

  • Blue Moon

Time is priceless cos no matter what you can never buy not even 1 single second.
So either spend your limited precious time doing something that you enjoy doing like playing the game you dck or whatever else.
Or spend it doing useless sht and complaining like tards all over the forums and everywhere else you may go.

The choice is yours cos thats your time you are fcking up.

    • I honestly think that’s the most illiterate comment I’ve ever agreed with

      • Matthew Langley

        Completely agreed lol.

I think a lot of people enjoy complaining about MMOs more than actually playing them (go to any MMO forum and the sheer mass of hate and anger is amazing).

        • Maybe, but for Swtor most of it well Justified. Enjoy Gaming in whatever game that is 🙂

  • You Can’t Handle the Troof

Here is a little tidbit of info for all those people that think this game is such a great success and not a sinking ship. https://swtoreconomics.com/2015/12/10/an-analysis-of-star-wars-the-old-republic-from-eas-financial-reports/

Having declining profits for two consecutive years and then only stemming the flood by slashing the employees making some of the new content? Doesn’t make me believe in good old Ben Irving’s “Is SWTOR going to receive ongoing support? The answer is absolutely yes.” line.

Now this is not to say that they couldn’t turn things around, but it’s not a good sign when they start blowing smoke up your ass like this “Open Letter.”

    • EyesOfGehenna .

You need to read carefully. He’s talking about the fiscal year 2015 at the latest which ended 31st of March 2015 as he stated in his article. This means that any impact of the new expansion has NOTHING to do with this report. The most important thing in a business is of course the comparison between cost and revenue. So perhaps the total revenue was down at least during the fiscal year quoted (so a year ago basically), however, it doesn’t tell you much without the profit margin. I am not saying that SWTOR is doing amazeballs all over, but what you offer here is completely irrelevant for KotFE and the current state of the game. Maybe it’s not in the top earners for EA’s financial report, but it still does well in the the list of top MMOs, so for an MMO it must be doing pretty decent at least.

      • You Can’t Handle the Troof

Actually you might want to read more carefully. He does indeed discuss some info that occurs after March 31st, 2015.

In the section “Looking Back: Most Recent Quarterly Reports” he talks about a time period spanning the “middle six months of 2015.” This is the time period were the revenue stayed the same and the decrease didn’t accelerate. He also gives a reason the revenue might be staying the same, cutting expenditure i.e. employees.

It should be fairly obvious to anyone familiar with the “the current state of the game” that; they aren’t fixing bugs, CS is taking longer to respond, they are only introducing very limited new content (story chapters, the new wz/arena), etc… And focusing more on CM items and sales; packs, weekly sales, the new weapon tunings. This is all evidence of decreased employee base, and actually leads me to believe they aren’t doing as well as they would like us all to think.

I wouldn’t say this report is irrelevant at all considering it actually discusses financials leading up to October not March as you stated. You state that it must be “doing well for an MMO” where is the evidence of that? I see no links to any sites with that information.

        • EyesOfGehenna .

He does make a few vague references about the quarterly reports but nothing substantial and none of it is really relevant in the discussion of whether KotFE has been successful for the game or not. We also know that a lot of people (re)subbed in that period of time as BW announced last year themselves so there was at least a temporary rise in sub numbers during that period that might still have a partial effect even today. Oh you want a link about SWTOR doing ok? Here’s one from this year https://www.superdataresearch.com/blog/us-digital-games-market/ Look at SWTOR on spot 4 for p2p MMOs. Oh and look at this http://venturebeat.com/2015/07/30/electronic-arts-made-77-of-its-q1-2016-revenue-from-digital-sales/ It actually DOES mention SWTOR. So really, it can’t be doing as bad as you seem to claim. Also don’t make up stuff like “they aren’t fixing bugs”. They are fixing bugs and that’s a fact. Not all of them and maybe not the ones you want but every patch has bug fixes ….need a link to the patch notes as well? So if you bend the truth like that, how dare you demand evidence? Clearly you ignore facts when it suits you. I’ll say it again, they do fix bugs and as for CS, well their CS has always been crap even before it went to EA from my experience and it could also mean they have a lot of work, meaning more customers for example, so that doesn’t tell you anything really. EA is always cutting back left and right and I am not saying there is no downsizing going on, because I cannot prove or disprove that, but here’s the thing: neither can you and the arguments you bring forward are either irrelevant or flat out false. That doesn’t make your case very well. Oh and by the way, I read the actual EA reports and his claims that he says he bases on them are at least in part assumptions, mostly because the decline in revenue is grouped and it cannot be determined therefore to what extent they apply to SWTOR itself. Next month when we get the 2016 report we may have something to talk about. This article you link is old pre-kotfe news.

          • You Can’t Handle the Troof

Ok lets start with your links.

The first one does show SWTOR in the 4th place of 5, behind Tera. Wow that must mean they are doing well. No kind of metric to give that position any meaning what so ever. The only thing this link has going for it is that it’s very recent(March 24, 2016) This is more an advertisement for Superdata’s Arcade software, which is really where the info that would be pertinent to this discussion would be.

As for your second link it dates from back in july of 2015. It is also discussing only Q1 where my article discusses Q1 and Q2. No where does it say SWTOR is doing well. This is even more irrelevant to any real discussion than what you claim I have done. Don’t complain that I cite old irrelevant info and then link even older more irrelevant info to try and argue against my point. It makes you look foolish.

As for bug fixes, yes they may be fixing bugs. Or are they? Here is a link to an actual SWTOR forum thread about a bug with the Ashara companion quest that is still bugged after them claiming it was fixed multiple times. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=875187&page=4
I can assure you this is still bugged as I was trying to do this quest last week. What about the Kalig’s Countenance bug? Still no fix on that unless you count having to contact CS and get it awarded in the mail. This is only two of the more recent bugs there are many other bugs going completely ignored for years while they pump out new CM items and weekly sales. In reality I was using exaggeration not fabrication to illustrate a point, but this tactic clearly went way over your head. In classic knee jerk reaction you took every single word as a literal white or black statement of fact.

You are totally a white knight fanboi. Almost every post that gives someones negative opinion of the game has one or more replies from you denouncing that persons opinion or telling them to “move on.” You have 6 in this thread alone not counting the ones against me. Do you work for the EA/Bioware PR department?

            • Matthew Langley

Conclusion… we don’t have data for how well or badly KoTFE did so how about both of you stop speculating, it means nothing without data relevant to that context in either direction.

              • You Can’t Handle the Troof

Lol, way to chime in waaay after either of us had even bothered to post further. Somehow I think you just wanted to have the last post and sound smug and superior. Way to look like a D-bag, gg.

As for your conclusion goes, we actually have more info. I just never got around to posting that part as the posts were walls of text as it was and then it seems both of us lost interest. Follow the links and look for the newest quarterly reports. You at most read what we posted and then fired off a reply, maybe do some research yourself so you are actually informed about what you “think” you know.

    • Dru Ilhares

The last time I remember EA bringing up long-term support, they spoke avidly about their expansion plans (third ships to each faction, more content) for Earth & Beyond, it lasted about three months, and then they announced they were killing the game. But they were happy to keep charging people for 9 more months after all official support had already ended.

  • General Stone Star Gaming

If only they would fix the lag, add quad core support, and have a 64 bit client we’d all be golden. However, we probably won’t get that so I guess we just need to wait until 2018 when hardware will finally run this game at 60 fps.

You need a 6700k to run this game above 40 fps.

    • EyesOfGehenna .

Yeah, the engine is a problem that is just part of this game unfortunately.

      • General Stone Star Gaming

I just dream of SWTOR running on Cryengine or frostbite. Seeing as EA and Bioware are one company now, I am sure that they could use Frostbite if they wanted.

        • BEB

Switching an existing game’s engine is nearly impossible. They’d have to rewrite the whole layer between the UI and the engine, assuming the design was sufficiently modular to begin with, and even that is impractical.

So… I am sure they can’t, But maybe in the next game.

        • EyesOfGehenna .

Yeah it’s not going to happen but I’d like BW to try their hands at another MMO with a proper engine. I think it could be great…maybe another SW title or ME…but yeh I think BW can make something amazing with a proper engine.

        • Shawn Hargrave

i just dream of swg 2 with tors leveling system on the unreal engine thats the wowkiller. I dont want EA involved at all personally

      • Kubrickian

They should buy the wildstar engine because they don’t need it anymore.

        • Shawn Hargrave

          LOL

    • Connor

I spent less than a 1,000 on my computer about 2 years ago, and it runs it at 60fps on every planet.

      • General Stone Star Gaming

Do you get 60 fps in PVP?

        • Calur

I get above 40 FPS in PvP. My machine cost about 2K though; not 1K. Runs WoW on max settings at 100 FPS (which is the manually set limit) so yea; not so great by comparison.

  • Jeid

What’s with these people??? Every time, they say there is some “REALLY cool stuff” in the works, which in the end turns out to be as boring as before…

  • MM

“The monthly chapter release schedule is new”

And you’ve know about this schedule for how long now and you still can;t get it right. It’s like asking for May 15th off from work and on May15th you still show up for work.

Stop with the cool stuff crap. We’ve endured far to much Cool “HK” stuff. For the love of all that is holy, stop this madness. It’s actually insulting.

  • Noah

free mothly pay for my troubles

  • TheCulprit

SWTOR had a good run. It was my first MMO so I don’t have much to compare it to. I was a sub from beta until just this month. It’s hard to walk away from my characters, especially my main, but I think the story made it easy. I think writing a story for all 8 classes is impossible. There’s no replay-ability here. I did the story with 4 different characters and you can’t change anything. Not point bringing the rest of my 16 thru.

When my super evil Sith bitch was out rescuing civilians at great personal risk for no personal gain, what, for the chance of recruiting a republic soldier? – not very Dark Side, you know? There were dark side options but you couldn’t not help them. It just absolutely ruined the character. OOC **knock knock – super evil Sith knocking here – hurry and escape while you can. I’ll save you!** I was hoping to have the option of killing him when he refused to leave the civvies behind. So my character, my main, was taken away from me already. Now there’s this story that all my classes have to play exactly the same way, good or evil, Sith or Jedi, soldier or spy. Nope, 1 story for all.

Anyway, it was a good game. I had a lot of fun and lasted this long because of my guild but it’s just old and stale. The streamlining stories into one means it fails all of them in some way.

    • EyesOfGehenna .

I do agree with this in part. I still enjoy the game as a whole but I don’t play the KotFE story on more than just a couple of characters. There is no replay value in these new stories for me either.

    • lore

I agree, it seems the whole dark v light has gone by the wayside in this x pac. Which is unfortunate because I enjoyed playing both and seeing the differences.

  • Ser JuJoo Guppy

“Hi there!, let me tell YOU how great we are doing and how wrong your opinions are! You need to believe me when I say we are doing fantastic and everyone loves this content!”

Except, IGN stated that the combat was the most boring it had played since it was so mind-numbingly easy. The actual gameplay was about 10% of the experience, the rest being cutscenes. The “choices matter!” dont really matter, and they continue to ignore the fact that people want to play with their friends and do group content..

God it pisses me off to see them ruining a game I love and want to play. But I refuse to pay for a dress up game of star wars that I have to play alone and pay $15 a month to do so.

    • EyesOfGehenna .

Well if IGN says it, it must be true. Clearly this game in it’s current rendition is not for you and that’s cool. So find something you do like. The game was ruined from the start because of their mess up with the Hero engine they screwed around with. That will never be fixed for SWTOR and they do want to invest mostly in what the majority of paying customers want to do. If that results in a game that you don’t like then don’t play and just move on. Don’t hang around hoping it will be different sometime soon…that’s just kidding yourself. Me, I can still get challenge out of the game when I want it and easy mode through it when I want to. It’s certainly not perfect but still worth it to me. I don’t play alone either. And really you don’t have to play alone. A lot of things, even old content can be fun if you do it with a group of friends or a nice guild. It’s not like the new story is the only thing there is to do. It’s a restriction you place on yourself more than anything.

      • Eban

If your all for the ‘If you don’t like it move on’ mindset then why does it bother you so much when people criticize the game that you’re so easy going with.

If you are as laid back as you claim to be it wouldn’t bother you one bit what people moan about.

Cant decide who’s worse these days …the doomsayers = the game is dead!! or the fanboys = everything is perfect!! or the Hipsters = I’m cool either way dude don’t like it then LEAVE !!!!! ARGHHHHH but I’m cool and relaxed and unfazed

        pffff

        • Shawn Hargrave

hes whats ea is looking for very naive people they can milk like cows why their covered in shit and keep coming back for more. The guy has 30 toons lmao need i say more

        • Matthew Langley

Even worse than the people you listed are people like you, who apparently don’t have a strong opinion themselves except to hate on every one involved. At least the people you reference either have a point to make about disliking the game, or that they are fine with the game the way it is… you just seem to want to complain for the sake of complaining.

          • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

Even worse than people without strong opinions, are people like you that try to post around a week after anyone has even bothered to worry about the topic and then go down the thread and badmouth and belittle every negative opinion in the thread.

Not only does it make you look like a total D-bag, but it makes it seem like you didn’t have the spine to post when you thought anyone would call you on your B.S.

            • Matthew Langley

Ok… If these comment sections were only ever intended to be used the day of then they’d be disabled. As it turns out I prefer to spend my time doing others things and casually scan a week or two worth of comments. Why this concept either escapes you are offends you is confusing.

You say my post makes me look like a total d-bag and no spine… while personally insulting me, since that’s mature.

I can disagree with people and even be critical of them or what they say and still not resort to personal insults, something you’ve proven twice now you cannot do apparently.

              • SickOfSoloWarsTheOldRepublic

You’re right they are still open to comment, but it doesn’t change the fact that you didn’t just post your opinion at the top of the thread. You posted on almost every negative opinion trying to contradict that opinion. Furthermore, you didn’t just state that you didn’t agree, but left condescending responses that were most likely never to be answered long after the original comment.

This makes it seem like you only want to have the last word chastising whoever had the gall to have an opinion different from your own. There is no discussion, no adversity, no courage in this context. You literally only seem to want to have your say with zero opposition, and your say seems to consist entirely of “your wrong idiot.”

I don’t know if you are an EA/Bioware propaganda employee, or if it just makes you feel better about yourself to do this.

Again whatever you are referring to as personal insults, I call it how I see it. And just because I do a thing does not mean I am incapable of refraining from said thing.

              • Eban

Was going to reply to matthew but you’ve pretty much nailed it in your 2 replies.
                Nice work.

    • theBean

Your choices do matter such that you could lose a companion in KOTFE. Granted I feel like he’s a whiny b anyway and the action didn’t seem any worse than anything else he was cool with but whatever. Still it mattered, granted that’s the only one example I have, but it’s still a thing

    • cannicks

Why the hell should I listen to Ignorant Gamers National? It’s MY money, I play whatever the hell I want.

    • Bryan

Pretty much sums up my opinion on the direction they are going…

  • Dr. Mike Wendell

I’ve been going around in circles with an employee named “Ben” now for upwards of 3 weeks now concerning an arbitration request I sent in 2 years ago. If this is the same “Ben” who can’t understand simple English, well he needs to be fired with cause. Anyone who thinks hate statements are acceptable should not be in the position he is in.

Ben, thank you for your bigotry and your dishonesty.

    • Ben Fuller

Who are you reffering to exactly?? I have never made hate statements about anyone

      • Dr. Mike Wendell

Then prove me wrong and respond to my emails. I’ve sent you 4 and have yet to receive a response to any of them.

Or how about answer one of these threads I opened up on the forums. Oh wait. They got deleted.

Or how about answering one of the threads on the EA help desk. Oops, those also got deleted or edited out.

How about responding to arbitration requests? Nope. Those get refused and marked “Return to Sender” by your staff.

Prove me wrong. Here’s a thread for you right here – http://answers.ea.com/t5/STAR-WARS-The-Old-Republic/BioWare-ignoring-arbitration-request/m-p/5300188#M16614

Open it, apologize for the rudeness, admit your customer service desk refuses TTY relay and 3rd party calls, admit that you’ve refused to respond to my complaints, apologize your staff’s incorrect use of moderation and we’ll discuss it right in that thread since you;re unwilling to discuss the matter privately.

        • Bryan

They don’t care, that should have been abundantly clear long before now… Sorry to hear about your struggle Mike, it’s best to shake the dust off your boots and find a better game.

  • Bastila

all i want to know is are we getting another operation soon….

    • lore

No, there has no been no mention of it at all, so I doubt it will be “soon.”

      • JF 0808

“we have started the early design phase for new, non-chapter, content. You all know the drill here, I can’t talk about any of the specifics (yet)”. Ben Irving

  • Calur

I’m really tired of killing every iteration of Kephess over and over. I would really like a new Operation. It’s kind of nice that they made all of the old Operations scale to max level but they didn’t change them and each of those OPs were made when the game was in a very different place (Especially EV, KP, and EC). If you just raise the numbers it doesn’t really make for the same challenge.

  • Lms

Critically acclaimed PoS. I logged on the wahat used the be the busiest server in the game.Fleet used to be full had to have multiple instances. Now we are lucky to have one partial occupied instance?!
I don’t know what you all are smoking- And I don’t want none- if you are hallucinating.
The game’s dead- and you killed it. Truth is truth.
I haven’t played or cared to play, since sub Launch -Of- KotFE. Story is good- but all the mechanics around it, all fatally flawed. Put the crack pipe down. Go to rehab. And come back and tell you are proud you all killed a once great game.
    Fade to irreverence.

    • Secundum

I’m sure you, as some internet scrublord knows more than the people who are getting the sales figures-it’s well known that KOTFE had made BW a ton of money.

      • Eban

Kotfe hype and the force awakens movie made them a ton of money but servers are empty. The expansion sucks.

        • Exactly 🙂 Sure it’s sad that Brainwashed Half Blind Kids & Adults “more sad when Adults” feed Swtor’s Eaware crew with buying things from In game store called Cartel Market.. Shameful when knowing how badly Eaware develops Half Mmo called Swtor. I hope that they don’t get many ppl back even if they finally announce some new actual Multiplayer Content. I mean Opses & Hm Missions where can’t use Ooverpowered Terminator like Companions. As they were turned into at 3.0 patch :/

      • CoHorn

Funny to read this comment since we now know that KOTFE was the driver for EA losing over $1 million in subscriber revenue and they scrapped plans to continue monthly chapter cadence and are scrambling to return to MMO “bits” development. Except their are so depleted in staff that development of a single operation will take remainder of the year so they are dropping one boss at a time to try and keep people subscribed. Most successful my ass.

        • Secundum

          At the time, it was.

  • Bryan

“Knights of the Fallen Empire is the most successful expansion we have ever produced” Yeah right, it was a peice of trash and the thing that finally got me to give up the game for good…

    • Yeah same for many Adult Pc gamers who aren’t living in some Blinded Fantasy World where Eaware is some Golden Savior.. It’s Mind Boggling how Swtor’s Eaware crew say something like this and keep living in their Bubble.. Now at 5.0 patch things are Ruined even more :/ They’re going officially towards P2W path with 5.0 changes.. Yesterday they ruined Pvp again with 4.7.3 patch changes as now WZ Comms are binded to char. At 5.0 Ops Passes gone.. So really saying Gtfo to F2p’ers & Pref. acount owners.

  • Star Wars: The Old Republic, SUCKS, end of story. YOU FREAKING thought by adding lots of eye candy and the story line animations that people would give a crap. There is no player housing in which we can place a house on a piece of land outside of town LIKE EVERYONE could in SWG’s, and place farming and mining equipment out side or in various areas. NOO you got it where we SPAWN in our house. WTF you idiots. STOP LETTING LETTING MORONS make the choices about content in games. STOP IT ALREADY!

Go post this to Swtor’s Next Livestream tomorrow 27.10.2016 & anywhere possible where Swtor Community / Devs see 🙂 https://www.twitch.tv/swtor I recommend not to use Full caps words or ! so can get msg through in Livestream at twitch 🙂

A game like guild wars 2 which I’m playing currently was released in the same time frame as SWTOR, it’s always been 100% free to play and there still players all over the massive world! Every zone is loaded with players! So why is a game like gw2 which has a smaller budget able to crush SWTOR in population? That’s a question bio ware needs to address

  • Fixswtor

I’ve played this game since beta. Preordered and subscribed since launch. I’m really disappointed with the Kotfe stuff. All that I (and a lot of other players wanted), was a Star Wars MMO. Not a bunch of single player story updates. MMO! It stands for Massively Multiplayer Online! Not single player story missions that require an Internet connection. I play this game to interact with content that requires more than myself. Where’s our new operations? Where’s pvp? The que times are growing exponentially but at least I can run the latest single player story content on my 16th alt so I can get back companions that I had unlocked years ago. Gimme a break! I can’t wait till this Kotfe crap is over and maybe (if there’s anyone left in any of the servers) you guys can actually put out some MULTIPLAYER content.

    • I hope u’ve posted this fine message to Suggestions Box Forum at Forums & added once spacing “section” to longish comment 🙂 With good Topic name Ofc 🙂 Devs not reading here. I agree with many things u’ve said here & Eaware’s Swtor Crew being this blind is Saad..

  • ) ) ) sotmax ( ( (

SWTOR is completely dead (IMO at least).
New content is crap with less that 20mins(actually gameplay), not mentioned technical problems and lack of support.
Same food every single day and absolutely too expensive for what you actually take at the end.
I’ m really disappointed as i love star wars, but not that much to be a psycho and continue playing this crap.
There are way better games out there(gw2 for example) that cost less and have better services..

    • Swtor’s Current State well summed up 🙂 Recommend to post this around the web & even tomorrow 27.10.2016 to Swtor’s Twitch Livestream: https://www.twitch.tv/swtor

    I Love this game!!
I like everything they have done, and hope they keep it up!

For those of you who don’t like it .. there’s the F*ing door.. bah bye!
Every single one of you basement dwelling neckbeards need to nut up, shut up and eaither deal with swtor, or move on.

    Like I said there’s the F*ing door..
    Bah bye!

    • Adam James

Played this game since Beta and it never goes anywhere. This Fallen empire came with choices that did nothing despite being advertised as if it meant something. They remove the voice acting in normal quest in favor of more text based quest while keeping the cut scenes of the main story voiced.

new content (story) last for about 10-20 mins of gameplay(GP, not cutscenes) each chapter. Sometimes even less. Even then the gameplay is not challenging at all. Now if no life neckbeards nerds like playing content that doesn’t do anything and is repetitive. Go ahead. I’m done with this game. I subbed for a full year for this expansion and This is what I got? I’m out. This content is garbage. They didn’t even conclude the story….They baited the shit out of us.

    • Fox Carson

How much is Bioware paying you for dis?

    • Chance

Attitudes like this are why there’s only 11 people on the republic fleet on The Harbinger right now.. lmfao good job mate, you played yourself! 🙂

  • Fisco Dromunova

Dear SWTOR team, your game was awesome the first toon. Not so much after the third and fourth. Gratz on getting me to play more than one toon! Something Blizzard couldn’t even do. Your ideas over the past 3 years were good, but not thought out to much. Here are some slight fixes to the game that will help.
    1. Change the warzones up more often! Good god, I’m tired of capping snow and grass!
    2. Strongholds? Great idea! But I feel lonely in every other part of the game now. How bout some neighbors? Maybe a Cul-de-Sac where my space shuttle is located?
    3. Class stories are your strength! Add more of them and not the same story for every toon.
    4. New playable class! All the other guys do it… #justsaying
    5. Give me more bang for my buck in these Cartel packs. If your going to change the color of old armor and call it something else, at least give me the whole set.
    6. Reputation should not be bought in packs, it should be earned with grinding!
    7. Change up the items from reputation vendors already.
    8. Give me real ”space” to fly in already! I want to manually land on Tattoine, not click on it.
    9. Make my guild ship able to land on in my star fighter! It has a hanger, does it not?
    10. BE IMMERSIVE! You have a third type of gamer playing here, Role-Players. There are many of us, and many more who want to be us. Adding things like item numbers 2, 8 and 9 will help. RP’ers like to hold events in their strongholds. How about a tab in the strongholds directory players can put up that they are hosting an event at this time.

I could go on for days.. and so could every other player. But take it from me, I have this trusty ”Founder” title you guys gave me! It gives me seniority over… something, doesn’t it? Look I don’t always have all the answers, but when I do, they make everyone **** their pants.
    Stay SWTORing my friends.

    • I hope u’ve posted some of the most important Nr’s like 8, 9, 1 & 6 to Suggestions Box Forum at Forums. Also: “RP’ers like to hold events in strongholds. How about Tab in the

      LIKE

Why use such a garbage engine on such an expensive game, literally mind boggling, the hero engine is such a pos and the game is horrible as a result, its clear the devs had no idea wtf they were doing, WHERE DID THE MONEY GO?

  • Deeps

What are you gonna do about open world pvp? That’s seems to have killed the game
    for me.

  • John Dullebawn III

Just felt like I needed to make a statement before I drop my subscription. Most players that enjoy this new content are totally new to the game or at least newer a year or so in. I feel that those of us that played this game since beta or close to beta are disgusted because BW turned their back on us in so many ways. This game was challenging you could most always go full light or dark side ie kill or help what ever npc you were dealing with and did I say it was it challenging? I remember on my first toon a Sent when I finally got Doc I had a healer!!! it was a big moment lol. There were quite a few newer players asking help to defeat a boss or 2 that was actually a challenge in the vanilla story lines. All that is gone, you can start almost any fight walk away from your pc get a cup of coffee come back and your companion(that can be any role) has killed the mob. The xpacs were nice you had a larger amount of game play released at one time, and after you finished the story you had a few FP’s, PVP Arenas and Operations that you had to complete as well, by the time you completed the new Ops in HM or NIM depending on quality of playing and got leveled gear the new Xpac was out, or soon to be released. In other words all this means it was a MMO wow what a idea, A MMO actually released MMO content. I think most of the players that have been around for a long time feel like BW turned their backs on us. The content I just described was what they pushed in their ad’s to get new players to join. Now they do a 180 and are getting people like like the RPG play style. Just a word of warning to those that enjoy this new laying style if they turned their backs on us beware they could do it again to you. I feel really sad leaving this game it was a great community, always had plenty of people on to run the new content with that get this ACTUALLY knew their main class(es) knew the mechanics, understood how to gear properly and knew how to use procs and cd’s correctly and at the proper time. I now play a HM OP and I see endurance augments on DPS and stat numbers that a WAY out of wack, and overall a lack of mechanic knowledge . The game as compared to what it was is dead and has gone too far to ever make a full comeback. Will miss this game, goodluck to you all

  • Yusefudo

Well i liked swtor till the point when they killed the raiding community, story is good but this game is meant for players that’s like to dress up there barbie doll with there hard working money and story content that in total without the cutscenes is around 30 min of playing.

Bioware you’re great in storytelling but maybe you need to stop thinking that all of the fans you guys have disappointed are telling you the truth and not a bad time story! This Game is Dead R.I.P

    • ThatGuy

I see I’m not the only one who, perhaps, looked for threads about the status of the game just now. Indeed, the devs seemed to have done just about everything that would lead to killing off the game we all came to know. Indeed, RIP.

    • Firbolgar Avangerson

Yeah, I went back to read this to see if there’s anything that could allude to new operations. Sadly, this is referring to Eternal Championship and whatever invasion like thing is coming for 5.0.

      Indeed, raiding is officially dead.

      • bigcrazewolf

PvP has been dead for even a longer period of time, and I agree with what you have started too.

  • Hoki

I’d resub if they brought back class specific stories and meaningful companions. The homogenization of stories and companions across all classes killed it for me.

  • Beks

Everytime I play the KotEe chapters I wish they would have made the real Kotor. Love the stories and the choices. Take that and their full attention on that, how better the story and the choices could have been. But no use dreaming, even though it’s a good dream.

  • John Suatac

    Warning: Rant

Hi Mr. Irving. Thanks for the open letter. I’m glad to hear that this game is getting the attention it deserves, however unless you are remaking the game from the ground up I don’t think all the great stories in the world will help. I’ve been playing this game on and off since it came out. The stories are great and I do enjoy them However the rest of the game seems like more of an impediment to enjoyment. It’s like i have to struggle through boredom and monotony to get to the good bits.
I REALLY REALLY WANT to love this game, but it the game-play always ends up being so meh.

From day one there has always been these issues:
    1) Why are the dialogue choices some strange sentence which can be misleading instead of an attitude? i.e. just say ‘sarcastic reply’ or ‘evil reply’ etc.
    2) Why must I move around massively empty landscapes? Or go to a planet only to dock in a space station to then run to a shuttle to then go to a landing pad to then run through a spaceport…. sigh.
    3) Why do my companions still disappear when I hop in a taxi or go on a mount 5 years in? Is it that hard to have them follow on their own mount or pop into the taxi seat beside you?
    4) Why does my Sith Juggernaut play the exact same as my Jedi Vanguard. I mean they (and the other paired classes are absolutely identical). Yes the animations are slightly different, but the abilities are the same.
    5) I think the stories are great, but why must I travel for 10 minutes to reach a scene?
    6) Why can’t I find or get a different ship? And why can’t my ship be like my stronghold…
    7) Why is it so difficult to preview items on my character. If I had a dollar for every time that system glitched (since day one) I might actually break even with all the money I spent on this game
    8) Why is there crafting? What was ever the point? Make something that lasts 5 min, then upgrade. Now there isn’t any need at all. Speaking of which… modification stations. I mean, ??? At least make it so that if you use one it doesn’t cost you to remove items?
    9) Why is it such a chore to upgrade my gear. Go to item mod vendor. Buy 3 pieces, open item put in item, oh but wait, say YES ever time you buy an item and EVERY time you put a piece in. So, after about 5 minutes, my character is happy and healthy and goes away to come back in a few levels and repeat. honestly? Since day one
    10) HK51. Boy I wanted him badly. but not THAT badly! (see impediment to enjoyment above)

    Since the update:
    1) I’m very happy I no longer need to spend most of my time trying to outfit my companions. Now I can just find something they look cool in and be done with it. I am trying to forget all the time I spent doing that before.
    2) What happened to combat? I mean there is NO challenge at all. Though in the new storyline fighting bosses was great and tough. otherwise I don’t even need to update my gear.
    3) The new storyline IS great. I am enjoying it a lot. I’m hoping it’s not the same for each class… so far with my second character it’s been pretty similar. (I’m scared)
    4) I understand why you force feed us companions in the new storyline, it fits the story. I get it. I applaud it in that it leads to better dialogue etc. Unfortunately, I feel trapped in that I can’t take someone I like playing with. I know, i can’t have everything… remember, this is a rant 😉

Thanks. That was cathartic. Now to spend another $100 on Cartel coins…
    😉

  • Daniel Ragnå

    KOTET Major Fugg-ups.

1: Commendations 100% deleted. Everything now costs credits. (Companion Gift Grade 6: 25 Common Data Crystal/Basic Commendations now = 250k Credits. WHAT?!)
2: Forceful Class-Literal Streamlining. Example. Sith Inquisitor classes. Force Lightning deleted from Sith Inquisitor, now exclusive to Sorcerer. Thrash Second Melee Attack deleted from Inquisitor, exclusive to Assassin. Phase Walk deleted from Inquisitor, exclusive to Assassin.
3: PvP gear deleted and any gear people have is also pointless. Sell it. Expertize Stat also deleted.

Why even alter classes to better only to later make them worse? And the Data Crystal System did work, almost better than the previous commendations, and now you just go “Eh, fugg it ,delete it and make them annoyingly pricey!”? …. BIG mistake. Why ruin something that works? Oh wait, you’re not BioWare, you’re SWTOR-EA. BioWare is working on Dragon Age and Mass Effect:A.

Brace yourselves, players, and hopefully you won’t go nuts. I am… semi-raging. This is all MANAGEABLE, but it really toes the red line!

  • 666

ok huge swtor fan until 5.0
    1) deleted pvp coms and vendors this is crap
    2) deleted flashpoint and operations crystals mega crap and vendors
    3) exchange rate for my hard work insulting
    4) no new operations, flashpoints, pvp mega crap
    5) uprisings are half ass and not worth playing
    6) changing key structures of classes making them worst and not better, tanks are weaker now
    7) killed raiding and gear drop for operations
    8) i dont care about light or dark side points
    9) nobody cares about single player gameplay, its to easy
    10) should have fixed server lag, mission play and GTN which is the worst
    11) get rid of cartel tokens that allow idiots to go from 60-65 level
    12) upgrade the game so players can goto 100 and modify there stats
    13) this game is finished what sub, raider, ops or pvp player would want to play this game any more, from die hard swtor fan

    • Michael

I was a “founder” to the game, and also enjoyed the story of it. But it as the time went by, nothing really new came to the game. And so, I chanceled my subscription…
I’m wondering if I should get into it again, and see if the game has had anything new and good added in the last 1½ years.

  • Fox Carson

Game died at 4.0 for PvE, 5.0 for PvP. Forced me to start playing WoW, which is an OK game, but it’s just not Star Wars.

    • bigcrazewolf

I have to totally agree, and I’m a die hard SW fan. It’s so sad what’s happened to the game. I had played since launch, but gave up a little over a year ago due to the piss poor game support. It’s a shame they had a game worthy of competing against WOW and messed it up SO badly.

  • Bruno Cardinal Bruneau

I realy used to like this game before Kotfe. Rise of the Hutt Cartel and Shadow of Revan where not bad but you still went from having 8 different stories to having 2 stories in Rise of the Hutt Cartel and more or less one story in Shadow of Revan. Kotfe and Kotet are just terrible and made the game lose all of its essence which was the republic vs the empire. Now its just you vs some irresponsible brats and i realy dont care about family drama. Also i feel like everything i did before Kotfe was for nothing. And i dont like that Kotfe is single player. Like what is it doing in a MMORPG???. Dont even get me started with the bugs, theres just too many to start talking about this. The only thing i will say is dont release something if its not ready. You say that Kotfe is your most succesful expantion pack, and im sure it is in terms of new subscribers and the money you made with it, but still it almost looks you looks like you guys have put all of your efforts in a super flashy cinematic and thats it. You also made the game easier and more simple to reach more people but just look at most of the comments below, people who have been playing this game for a long time know whats going on and are not happy about it. Im still going to play because the game overall is not bad and im a big star wars fan but its the Flashpoints and Warzones that will keep me going and not the story from Kotfe and Kotet. I realy hope for a change of direction with this game.

You also made the game easier and more simple to reach more people but just look at most of the comments, people who have been playing this game for a long time know whats going on and are not happy about it. Im still going to play because the game overall is not bad and im a big star wars fan but its the Flashpoints and Warzones that will keep me going and not the story from Kotfe and Kotet.
I think you just need to make the game the way it used to be but with more content:
Bring back the war between the republic and the empire.
    Bring back class specific missions.
Make new planets with daily missions on it (i dont want to go back in time 5 years to make those heroic missions, it makes no sense)
    Make new Flashpoints.
    Make new Warzones.

Just have to say I joined the game at launch. pre orderd collectors edition. was a huge fan of it cause it reminded me of my days on galaxies. Unfortinatly the game died for me when it went free to play. True you could still subscribe and get everything yah had befor FTP. however what truly killed this game is when the Cartel Market came out. MIcro Transactions were literaly a thing that killed this game. in the beginning I worked hard for my gear. pvp and pve. took a couple of breaks only to come back to find the servers dead or unpopulated. PVP as said below pvp gear vendors gone pve gear vendors gone. class functionality is gone. group finder and warzone finder ques unbearable wait times. and gear that has no functionaility to it like in previous versions has killed this game. and to point out further. if the cartel market has not been focused on a cash grab with packs and armor ect… had simple things that could only have been gotten through it such as an exotic pet. would have been made it more worth it. In fact that’s what wow did. wows in world cartel market. (not called that in wow) you can only buy exotic mounts or pets other wise its a fully functional subscription model. oh well mb theyl bring life back into it mb it will die. well see

The whole eternal empire thing would have been cool IF you hadn’t removed the fucking class story. Once I completed everything on 1 toon it simply wasn’t fun to do the same shit again…personal story? What personal story? It is 1 story for all classes, doesn’t matter what class you play or side you are on light or dark, there’s Lana, there’s theron…terrible

I just logged onto SWTOR for the first time in at least 2 years and it is a GHOST TOWN! Every server population in North America and Europe are shown as LIGHT on the server status. I moved to France 2 years ago, so I am transferring my main character to a European server, but I am not hopeful that anyone plays this anymore. I went to the trading machine as all of my gear is higher than anything I can buy from a vendor and there was NOTHING for sale! Not one single item of any category or level!! WTF? That was my first big clue that THIS GAME IS DEAD. I will check this game later when the transfer to Europe is complete, but I suspect that I will find a zero population. Oh well, I have fond memories of grouping with random players in the old days, but I’m afraid those memories will be the high point of my SWTOR experience.

Just logged on and there’s only 15 people on the fleet. The Harbinger, the biggest server. The few that remain are fiercely (and naively, toxicly) loyal to the game. I think I had the most aggressive and relentless roasting when I asked where everyone’s at. What the fuck is going on?
