Revelation Online Friends, Mentoring and Marriage Guide

A guide to the friends, mentoring and marriage system in Revelation Online.

Friends

Who doesn’t want friends? In Revelation Online there are a couple systems in place for friends to check up on each other.

Pressing P will bring up the Friends Menu. You can see all your friends here. From here you can search for players with the magnifying glass icon and type in their name. This option allow you to add players on other servers as well.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide

Of course you can always right click their name/nameplate and pick the add friend option there as well. The other person will get a message informing the friend request. The button on the bottom right of their  screen will start blinking with a pop up message and they can click on the Friends menu to add you.  You can add a nickname to them when accepting a friend. If the other person do not accept your friend request you will not be able to see when they are online.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-4ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-5ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-3

There are a couple of other features on the Friends menu that are worth mentioning. First is the online, busy, or away status. There is no offline status unfortunately so you cannot hide in offline mode. However, friend list is not account wide so if other people do not know your other characters they will not be able to see if you are online.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-6

The other thing feature you have is the Display Mood option. There is a little chat box under your name where you can type in your mood and this will be displayed when people hover over your name on the friend list.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-7ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-8

Once a friend is on your friend list, you can use a special message interface to chat with them without having to go through the chat box. This is really handy if you are talking to multiple friends at once. Just double click their name and a special chat window will pop up. If you click the minimize button instead of closing this chat window, it will appear below your normal chat box and can be easily accessed for future chats. Any new messages will cause the button to blink to notify you.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-9ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-10

Personal Space

Each player has a person space that other players and friends can comment on and give gifts. This increases the popularity of the player, which is ranked on a leaderboard under the social category.

There are a couple ways to access this personal space, you can click it from the buttons on the bottom right of your screen, click a button on your friend list, or right click someone’s name and hit view space.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-12ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-11

You can also link your space in chat by clicking on this yellow button in your personal space interface, this is useful if you have lazy friends that can’t be bothered to right click your name.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-13

You can change your profile picture here by uploading a picture from your computer. This will also change your icon in the friend list. It may take a few hrs for the picture to show up. You can also add tags about yourself on the bottom left of the personal space interface.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-14ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-15

Now the interest thing is the popularity feature. Other players can like you, give you gifts, and perform certain emotes via the 3 buttons at the top. Like and gifts both contributes to your popularity score, which is ranked on a leaderboard. You can only like/emote the same person once a day but there is no limit to how much gift they can receive at a time. Common gifts are Roses and Gold Coins earned by doing daily completion and guild daily quest. You can get better gifts that increases popularity even more, earned from events or cashshop. Players receiving the likes/gifts can click on these buttons themselves to see a list of players who have liked or given gifts to them.

  • You will need to be level 30 to like someone

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-16ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-18

Interestingly, you can sort of “pay” other players who liked your profile by offering gifts to those to click your profile. On the bottom right of the screen is a button you can press to open up a window where you can select between three different kinds of gifts with increasing costs (the last one requires cashshop credits to purchase on the CN servers). You can determine how many to purchase and when people click on the like button on your profile, they have a chance to get a gift. When browsing profiles, look for the bag icon at the top right to see who has this option enabled. It won’t tell you what sort of gift bag they have purchased though.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-19

You can view the leaderboard for the popularity rankings on the bottom right of your screen. There aren’t any benefits other than bragging right. This leaderboard is is reset every week at the Sunday daily reset.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-20ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-21

There is a special emote that unlocks when you have reach 18888 popularity score. This is the Kabedon emote found under the 2nd tab when you press N.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-60

It is a pretty special emote..

Cohesion

Cohesion is a measure of how much time you spent doing activities with a particular friend. It is only really important if you want to marry a friend as you will need 3000 Cohesion points to marry someone. For normal friends it just serve as an indicator of how much you play together. You can view your cohesion with a particular friend when hovering their names  on your friend list. You get more hearts as your cohesion with them increases. It caps at 6000 and you will need to do a special quest to advance past 6000.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-22

If you wish to increase the cohesion with a friend, there are is a daily quest chain you can do with your friend. This NPC will only offer you the quests if you are in a party with your friend. This is a chain of quests, each offering 20 Cohesion points. One person can do the quest or both can do it to get 40 points. If you are both doing the quest, let the group leader accept  the quest as otherwise it will throw the quest chain out of sync (the other person just have to be near the group leader to automatically get the same quest). It is a basically a bunch of quests where you need to travel to one location and back. Some quests you will go to the same spot together while other quests will have you to head to separate locations.

  • There is a weekly limit on how many coehsion points you can acquire from this quest. If you are past the weekly limit you won’t get the quest until the weekly reset (Sunday).

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-23ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-24

Cohesion Advancement

When you reach 6000 cohesion points with a friend, your cohesion will be capped and will not go up any further until you marry your friend and do an advancement quest. The NPC for this advancement quest is right outside the wedding instance. You will need to get an item from the mushroom NPC inside the wedding instance and then hand it to the NPC standing outside the wedding instance to complete this advancement.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-61

You can do this advancement quest with your non-married friends at 6k cohesion as well. This will boost them to the next friend tier but won’t allow you to gain any points past 6000. However, this is sufficient for the achievement to unlock Snuggle emote. You just need to reach 6000 cohesion with six different classes, do the advancement quest with them to unlock the emote.

Mentoring

Mentoring is a system that allow high level players to help low level players and get rewarded at the same time. Starting at Level 20, you will be eligible to be an apprentice and at level 40 you will be eligible to be a mentor.

Mentoring is hugely beneficial and group members that run together frequently should mentor each other as there isn’t a level difference requirement to mentor. The only requirement is that your apprentice cannot be your mentor at the same time and vice versa.

To open the mentor/apprentice interface, click on this button on the bottom right of your screen or press Ctrl + Z.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-27

The first tab shows your mentors and apprentices. You can have a max of 3 mentors and 3 apprentices at the start. More apprentice slots can be unlocked as you gain mentoring points up to maximum of 5. Apprentices also have a call button they can use 3 times per day to call their mentor to their location.

  • 4th apprentice slot unlocks at 3000 total mentoring points
  • 5th apprentice slot unlocks at 5000 total mentoring points.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-46ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-31

Mentors and apprentices can use the 2nd and 3rd tabs in the interface to find apprentices and mentors. You can’t find a specific player this way as it displays a random list. However, potential mentors can also right click on a player’s name and apply to be their mentor. Apprentice need to accept the application for the relationship to be established.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-42ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-43ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-45

Passing Gong Ceremony

At Level 25, Apprentices will be able to enter the Spa. If master and the apprentice are in the same spa, the master will be able to initiate a Passing Gong Ceremony where both the master and the apprentice are locked in place for 10 minutes. If the apprentice has the Spa drink, they will be able to gain massive additional experience from doing this with their master (XP depends on the level difference, higher the better). This ceremony also cause both the master and the apprentice to gain cohesion points for a max of 250 points per day.

Masters can initiate this by pressing N and click on this button while next to their apprentice and have them targeted. The apprentice will get a popup window asking them to accept. An apprentice can do this with different masters as well but they are limited to a total of 10 minutes per day regardless of how many masters they have.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-25ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-30

Tuition Merit Daily Quests

There is a NPC will give both the mentor and the apprentice a daily quest that rewards Tuition Merit and reputation. The mentor can do this quest twice a day with two different apprentices while the apprentice can only do it once per day. It is a very short timed quest with a time limit of 1 hr. Both the mentor and the apprentice need to grab an item and trade to each other to turn in to the NPC. Completing it will give the mentor some tuition merit and 160 reputation towards the Mentor reputation group which you can exchange for costumes and other useful items. It is recommended you have two apprentices to do this so you can earn 320 reputation from this daily a day. Apprentice will not receive anything from this quest.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-33ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-32ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-36

The second NPC nearby also have 3 more daily quests that the mentor and the apprentice can do together. The Protecting Books daily requires two players and also reward Tuition Merit and reputation for both the mentor and the apprentice so it is worth while to do. One player need to distract an unkillable mouse while the other delivers a heavy book. The other two dailies will just reward some experience and cloud coupons in addition to mentor and cohesion points.

  • Mentor with 2 apprentices can earn 90 Tuition Merit and 480 Reputation a day
  • Apprentice can earn 30 Tuition Merit and 160 Reputation a day.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-38

Tuition Merit Vendor

The reputation vendor for the mentoring is near the two quest NPCs. You will need Tuition Merit to purchase all of the items and some items such as the costume also require silver rank reputation (16000 reputation points) so you are looking at doing these mentoring dailies for least a month or two.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-34

The costume costs 2000 Tuition Merits in addition to the silver rank reputation and only lasts for 7 days. However, you can add time to this costume by purchasing another item that costs 1600 Tuition Merits to extend its lifespan by another 7 days. This forces the mentor to be actively mentoring even after getting the costume.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-37ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-35

Apprentice Graduation

There is a system for mentors to graduate their apprentice. Doing this at certain levels will reward both the mentor and the apprentice with huge rewards.

If you graduate your apprentice at 59, 69 or 79, the mentor can receive chests containing 10k, 12k, and 15k Tuition Merits. The apprentice will receive some rewards as well. The exact process to graduate your apprentice isn’t quite clear and I will update the guide once I know more.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-50

Marriage

Marriage is available between two players once they reach at least 3000 Cohesion. It is necessary to unlock your cohesion cap past 6000 with a friend and unlocks an emote as well as a costume. You can only marry one player at a time. If you like to marry someone else, you will need to get a divorce from your current marriage.

The Wedding

To start the marriage process, you will need to be in a party with the friend you are going to marry and enter an instance in the northern end of the world map. There is no gender restriction on marriage and two players of the same gender can marry each other.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-61ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-64

Once you are in the marriage instance, talk to the NPC in the middle to get the wedding started. She has two options for wedding, a cheap option for 50k cloud coupons and a more fancy one for 300k cloud coupons. The cheaper 50k option is the second option here. It will take the cloud coupons from the party leader so make sure they have the appropriate amount of cloud coupons.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-62ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-63

The fancier option is more for players who have friends/guild members that are attending. It will spawn gifts that guests can pick up. If you just want to get it done quick and cheap, 50k wedding will just have a short cutscene. Regardless of which option you picked, the marriage benefits are identical.

Marriage Benefits

The immediate benefits of Marriage are fourfold.

First, you will unlock a title on each person proclaiming the other person to be married to them, this is just a cosmetic title.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-65

You will also unlock a new action you can do in the Spa with your partner which you can access by press N and select this button. While visually this is similar to the mentor/apprentice action, it has several differences. There is no daily time limit on this and it give a small boost to the experience you already get from your Spa wine (1.5 – 4% depending on your level). However, you will not gain any cohesion from this action so it is only recommended to do this after you have done the mentor/apprentice channel with your partner for the day.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-66

Thirdly, if you do battlegrounds with your partner, you will both gain additional battlegrounds rewards points (not military points but rather the weekly points that unlock rewards).

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-67

Lastly, you will have access to some marriage skills on the last tab of the interface opened up by using the N button. These skills are greyed out initially and you will need to acquire skill books for them that drops off Level 59 Battle Royale, Level 59 Ryongyon Hardmode, or Level 62 Mechanical Escape hardmode dungeons. Auction house can also be used to acquire them as well. As the cohesion between you and your partner improves, these skills will also level up and get more powerful.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-68ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-69

These skills require Level 15 to use and their effects and cooldown depends on the amount of coehsion points you and your partner have. You will need two copies of these skill books if you wish to unlock these skills on both characters.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-70 Make Food Make a food that increase the max MP/HP of your character by a tiny % (0.1% for the green rarity) for 30 minutes. Each food can be consumed 10 times with a 30s cooldown in between and traded between partners. Higher cohesion ranks allow you to make better food. Base cooldown for this skill is 60 minutes at Level 1.
ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-71 Out of Combat Rez You can revive your partner out of combat. The cooldown and HP restored upon revival depends on the cohesion points. Base cooldown is 45 minutes at Level 1.
ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-72 Partner Summon Summon your partner to you. The cooldown and daily usage depends on the cohesion points. At Level 1 you can summon your partner twice a day with 45 mins CD.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-73

Cohesion Milestones

At 6k, 15k and 28k cohesion points between you and your partner, you will reach milestones that give you items or require to you complete a task.

At 6000 cohesion points, your cohesion will be capped until you do a quest with your married partner. The NPC for this advancement quest is right outside the wedding instance. You will need to get an item from the mushroom NPC inside the wedding instance and then hand it to the NPC standing outside the wedding instance to complete this advancement.

At 15,000 cohesion points you will unlock an emote called Embrace.

ro-friends-mentor-marriage-guide-74  ro-embrace-emote-2ro-embrace-emote

At 28,000 cohesion points you will unlock a special costume for each partner.

ro-marriage-costumero-marriage-costume-2

Divorce

It wouldn’t be a proper marriage without divorce. You can divorce someone after you have been married to them for 7 days at the same place you got married. There are two options for divorce, one is mutual agreement that costs 10k cloud coupons for each person. The other option is a forced divorce where one partner does not agree to it and this will cost you 300k cloud coupons. You cannot marry again after divorcing until 7 more days has passed. So to switch marriage partners immediately after marrying you will need to wait 14 days.

  • BobbyOrr

How much different is this game compared to Skyforge, being same company and all. I had a blast with Skyforge until after I became a lesser god and the Grind/ pay to win got out of hand.

    • my.com is just a publisher in na/eu. NetEase is the developer. You can’t really compare them. Revelation Online is packed with content. As you can see even social aspect in this game is huge :O

    • SappFire

Its totally differ from skyforge coz there are different developers, sf will be a lot closer to allods due same dev team.
I dont know what that publisher (my.com = mail.ru) going to or already made in other regions, but in russia it ruined games A LOT with totally weak and unstable servers, pay2win cash shops, no protection at all (every russian player know what shit cheaters did at start of ru-archeage).
And RU-CBT of RO that started 2 weeks ago already had issues with user-made game client changes to dominate the beta test (they used older client version to personally enable some features of game that were turned off)

  • 85watt

As for wedding there are gender restrictions of NA/EU/RU servers. No same-sex marriages allowed.

    • Noxid

Pretty devs said NA only region to have same sex marriages

      • 85watt

Yeah, You are right, found wrong info in some faq, turned out to be not official. Sorry.

      • Alex Veis-Horn

And no same sex marriages on EU?

        • NA/EU same thing

          • Alex Veis-Horn

Oh, thank you a lot Dulfy! So only Russia has that block. Good. Will wait for West release then.

  • Mr Heart

Bit late, but is Marriage accouont wide or character wide.

Aka, can I have each alt married to somone different or are they all married to the same person and vice versa.

    • character specific, each alt can marry someone else

  • hani

at what level can you interact/meet up with other players/friends? how do you do it?

  • Daniel Bishop

Not sure if this has changed since CBT but “Passing Gong” (“Joint Training Social” now) seems to cap out at 6 minutes and offers 1 mentor point per ~6 seconds. Not sure of the exp boost ratio since it is somewhat difficult to calculate with aptitude and other factors.

  • Nyo

its lvl 49 to become a mentor, not lvl 40 to be a mentor though… o.o
