  • kazerniel

Boo I bought a bank slot a couple of days ago :/ Do you think I could get the difference from customer service like with real-world money sales?

    • Ares Zax

If it’s within a day or two, Support might refund you the difference. It’s worth a try; just be polite about it.

  • John Anderson Acosta Vanegas

I want to get a pass, What is the best pass among this?, or any one give u an advantage?

    • Alberto “Arceso” Mata Espiga

I have the airship one, but its downside is that it have a permanent sound of air whistling out of a tube. “PSSSSSSSSSSSS – get out of here – SSSSSShhh”
On general terms, all of em are the same.

      • Troll killer

Do what I did lower the ambiance volume.

    • Just convenience really, I would pick the royal terrace myself.

    • John Anderson Acosta Vanegas

ohh ty, i was thinking the same.

    • Blippedyblop

Royal Terrace is the best designed, in my opinion. Everything is much closer together, and plus it’s in DR 🙂

    • Troll killer

The Air Ship pass is more central to the world map, cost less to warp around.

  • FrycoN

    I have a qestion.
For example: If i bought “Bag-Slot Value Pack (350 gems ) – 50% OFF” some time ago- i dont see it now right?
But why do you see it Dulfy.. Cose you definitely bought this before as well right?

    • I don’t think I got this as I have max bag slots a long time ago.

      • FrycoN

So…what about that picture in top left corner?

        • Suan

I have all bag slots and I can see it too. So probably you only stop seeing it if you bought this specific bag-slot value pack. If you got the bag slots for normal price or some other deal like “3 bag slots for 50% price” then you’ll be seeing this one. It’s just a one time deal and you’ll keep on seeing this until you buy it or they remove it.

          • FrycoN

            I guess that explains everything.
            Thanks.

  • Answerer

The bag slot is a real rip off. You pay 350 gems instead of 400 gems. Its 200 gems + 150 for the boosters. So to me that feels like a real ripoff, advertising 50% discount, but not really…

    • Alot

I wish I could make that permanent discount go away. its clogging up the promotions tab.

  • Nitrobacter

damn couldnt they wait till patchday? i was just about buying gems for 1000g and now the prices are fcked up again -_-*

  • Richard Uherka

Ok, so as I understand it if you are buying gems with cash there is no way to buy the exact amount you need, so these discounts are somewhat meaningless because you are going to end up purchasing gems you may never use just to get enough to buy what you want. So for instance if I want to buy three character slots at 640gems each I would still have to buy 2400 gems or so and then sit on the excess until I can find something else to purchase. In essence the sale is just a way to sucker you into buying something while it’s on sale and leaving you with excess gems that sucker you into purchasing more later so you can spend your bankroll down. I’ve never seen enough in-game gold to purchase them with gold so I’ll probably always be paying cash. If I am wrong on all of this I’d like to know how to avoid paying real cash for gems I don’t need AND get the items I’d like. For instance I find the classes really neat so I’d like to try the three I haven’t played without having to delete current characters.

    • Nitrobacter

buy 1600 gems with cash and the missing 320 for ~100g?

      • Richard Uherka

I have been playing for over a year, with some time missing though, and I’ve barely seen 100 gold in all that time, right now I have around 2. I’ll never see the rest before the sale is over.

        • Noabraham

Bought 2 character slots, bank tab exp, shared inv slot and still have 600 left, never payed a dime… only ingame gold, which I don’t farm, just selling excessive mats and stuff. So its possible imo.

          • Richard Uherka

If you had that much excessive matts, you were farming. I have six L80
characters who I am working through story without doing much farming
other than incidental stuff I pick up along the way. I’ve bought the
20gold component for six 20slot bags so far, made gear for my toons with
crafting, and with selling every mat that doesn’t fit in my bank I have
less than 3 gold. I paid cash for my sixth character slot. I haven’t done Teq or any of the other big group boss events in almost a year. They were fun the first half dozen times, after that they got boring.

            • Nitrobacter

How can you have this little gold? I know not every one can have 1000+ but 3? Even the daily gives 2g each day… A daily fractal run is ~5g… Even the “rare” equip that drops now and then would be at 1-2g per day for me… (that there are way cheaper bags and not every toon needs 20 bags while 18 are so much cheaper is just to top it off…)

              • Richard Uherka

I don’t do grind, which means I don’t do dailies. I’ve never done a fractal. Group events scare me because I get tired of people who have to throw fits because you aren’t doing things “their way.” I want to have fun and play the game. I enjoy chatting while I’m playing, but I don’t care to “play” with other people who can/will single me out to blame for things not going perfectly. The Boss events are great for making gold, but they are boring after you have done each one a few times. I didn’t pay $100 so I could spend all my time grinding boss fights over and over. Solo story events don’t give much reward, you don’t even get the random loot from kills.

This is all just a side-track, I said originally that gold for gems isn’t happening for me any time soon. So I have to consider whether the sales actually provide a value. It turned out that this one I was able to purchase the three new character slots and with the gems left over purchase a personal bank expansion. It feels like I got a value, so ’nuff said.

              • Troll killer

I don’t grind either. Doing the PVE daily usually takes between 5 and 45 mins depending on what they are.

    • Adesia

Considering you pay once for the game with no subscription fees, is it really that bad to pay a bit more for extra character slots? I agree that it sucks that you can’t buy specific amounts of gems but paying $20 or so to get what you want seems like a small amount to pay for having played a year without any subscription fees or additional fees. Anet’s gotta get paid somehow. I think having some gems left over for a while isn’t such a big deal to get cheaper character slots now, especially since you will eventually get to a point where you will have finished crafting and start earning gold in game. 🙂

      • visher

Stop. Everyone who bought the game owe NOTHING to devs, no matter how long they play the game. “Oh buh no sub fees” have nothing to do with this topic. IMHO sub fees are a cave era rip off practice. “Anet’s gotta get paid somehow” – they are fucking getting paid already when person buys a game or gems.
It’s just an inconvenient cash-to-gems system, that’s all.
Also, throwing money away may be a big deal for someone.

        • Adesia

My entire point was that Anet uses gems to make money outside of the initial game purchases. Considering that they weren’t making money off of game purchases outside of the initial one-time purchase, my point was that I don’t think it’s a big deal to spend $20 (or however much) on something like character slots if you feel you enjoy the game because they have to make income somehow. They’ve only released one expansion after 3 years since the original game was released, they don’t have subscription fees (thank god), so they need income somehow. Is it a shitty cash-to-gems system? Yes, I agreed that it was, but I also said that if there’s something left over, at least there’s a way to make money in-game to convert and use them. 😛

      • Richard Uherka

And then pay again for expansions – which they are talking about producing an endless supply of. HoTs cost as much as the original game, and it only had a tiny fraction of the material. I paid cash for HoTs too. I really like the fact that they are constantly creating new content, but on the opposite hand they also blatantly advertise content that is officially “out of stock” that you can access for more cash, er, gems. I just finished playing through a major part of season two for the second time with a new toon hoping to get the finishing rewards, except now I find I have to BUY the last chapter in order to get those in-game rewards. I HATED the game-play in season 2, I don’t want to reward them for the awful game-play by paying them for it.

I don’t mind supporting the game creators, but I did that twice when I paid for the game and for HoTs. I am into the game for over $100, I’d say that’s fairly substantial support.

Irregardless, you don’t even answer my question in any shape or form, which is what is the point of sales if you aren’t actually getting anything cheaper? If I still have to purchase $30 worth of gems to get my 3 new character slots it doesn’t really matter that I’m going to have gems left over that I can’t do anything useful with. Though, if the excess gems turned out to be the same amount as a bank slot, then it might be worth it. I’ll have to research that. And of course my research says that this is so. Funny thing that nobody else pointed this out to me.

        • Drayven Darklight

It really varies what you buy and in what combinations. For instance five bank slots are currently 2400 gems exactly. Normally they’d be 3000 gems, which obviously is not divisible by 8 and a very awkward number. And you can always buy more with gold instead, sometimes it won’t take much to get that last little bit to make the gems even out. Long term you can make use of the extra as long as you keep playing. Or you could sell the extra for gold right away. It could be worse. Some companies price things oddly and make the currency expire over time, for example you don’t use it in three months and it just evaporates.

        • Adesia

I did agree that it sucks that you can’t buy specific amounts of gems; that sort of system I don’t abide by because it does force you to spend more. But I also said that over time, you probably will make enough gold to buy enough gems with in-game currency to buy something you do like eventually to even it out, so at least it’s not like most of the other similar systems out there (like microsoft points when they had them, that was the worst).

    • visher

I don’t think anet is really trying to rip you off. It’s just the way the system works. Think about it. After buying gems from online store you don’t get gems but a key. That’s because gw2 official site is not the only place they sell gems. You can find those gems in many stores and not only online ones. That’s why they needed a fixed amount key selling system. They of course could have implemented more complex system to buy gems in game through black lion. But the way i see it, when you buy gems in game for cash you simply buy the same keys but they are activated immediately.

I bought gems for real money a couple of times long time ago, but never bothered about leftovers ’cause i knew i would use them later anyway. After some time playing game though i almost stoped wasting gold since i got my main in full ascended and never were much interested neither in alts (exotics for one more character are cheap) nor in skin collecting. And so now i sit on almost 1000 gold and i bought gems for gold multiple times. I wouldn’t say i ever grinded for gold but i played quiet a lot (including doing most of not grinding achievements) and i did a couple of tricks to get some shinny yellow coin in my pockets too.

      • visher

Yeah, there were times when i thought that having SOME gold is kinda cool already. Funny thing, i remember there is an achievement to have 100 gold. So me and my friend had just about 50 gold each at some time. We actually mailed those money to each other and to a third friend too to get that achievement LOL

      • Richard Uherka

I was going to complain that it’s still a rip off if I have to buy $30 worth of gems to get my three additional character slots irregardless of the fact that the slots are on sale, but then I figured out for myself that the gem savings if I do it leaves me with exactly enough left over for a bank expansion slot. Three new character slots AND a bank expansion slot for the $30 seems like a fairly reasonable thing to me. I don’t really care though what the reasoning for selling gem packages is, it’s just a lazy excuse to over-charge you for stuff by making you purchase gems as an intermediate purchase to get the in-game items you want. Most games including most MMOs don’t make you purchase fake currency so you can purchase upgrades. The soul-binding/account-binding system already gives them a way to solve the reselling of gems = just account-bind the things like they do nearly every other thing.

I really like the game, the character/class play is fun, and the costuming is really cool, but their implementation of their story-modes is awful though. I wouldn’t mind supporting the game creators as much if I didn’t find trying to play through the stories to be endlessly frustrating and the endlessly circling run of boss events to be ultimately boring.

I am also subscription-playing SWTOR, and though I like both games for different reasons, I’m also frustrated with them both for different reasons. Each gets what the other got wrong, right, and gets what the other got right, wrong. I’m hard-pressed to decide which payment plan makes me more upset though.

    • lithlius

every game with an online store does this. I dont see why you are so outraged by it. It just means youd be able to buy more stuff with less gems so it still is a sale. and unlike other games this allows you to exchange this currency for ingame currency so EVEN if you NEVER EVER EVER EVER found another thing you where interested in at the gem store ( which i mean come on!!1) yu could just exchange it for in game currency

    • Man

If you like the game that much, you don’t even have 100 golds to exchange that 320 gems different?

  • RKC

FYI, the countdown has appear now, 19 hours as I typed this!

  • Richard Uherka

See my above note please about my unwillingness to grind dailies. I know it can be done, but I don’t find it fun, just like I don’t find grinding boss battles all that fun. I don’t consider daily grind to be a value for a game.

    • guest

I’m sorry but daily achievements in GW2 aren’t really grinding. That shit doesn’t even take 10 minutes most days. Make it 20 minutes on a bad day. And even then it’s not grinding because you are not doing the same stuff over and over again. Especially during winters day it was incredibly easy to get the 2 gold each day.

Besides this A-Net really went through the roof with the excess gold. Everything rewards you with so much gold it is ridiculous. Especially if I remember release time when gold was actually worth anything.

PvP, Fractals… Hell, even dungeons reward gold properly again. I made almost 200g the past two weeks by playing almost just my 3 daily pvp matches for the legendary wing achievement. I think I had 2-3 days in which I played a bit more but even without that I would have ended up with around 150g. And that was 30 minutes of PvP a day.

I get where you are coming from but pls don’t say Gw2 requires you to grind to get some gold if you have no idea. If you want to play through the story with every character – fine. I don’t see why because THAT is actually grinding but if that is fun for you go ahead. But please don’t spread false information. There is enough shit wrong with GW2 but getting some gold is definitely fine and easy as fuck right now.

      • Richard Uherka

It IS grinding because it’s repetitious doing the same boring thing every day. I did “Dailies Grinding” when I played SWTOR, got really tired of it there too. Decided afterwards that I wasn’t doing it again. I don’t care if it means I could purchase nearly everything in the game for free, I find it boring and therefor not worth the time. I would rather work through story content. I’m not knocking those of you who enjoy that, knock yourself out, but it’s not my cup of tea.

    • boohoohoo

lol what a little whiny wanker. just quit man. if you find everything grindy and not fun and dont consider it value for a game. if you were talking about ascended drops or legendary crafting, yes those are grindy as hell. but seriously, dailies being grinding? 10mins of your daily time to do something isnt even considered long.

      • Richard Uherka

I paid $100 cash for the game and HoT, I provided plenty of support to the game creators. I’ve also purchased four character slots and other things with cold hard cash, all of which says that I enjoy the game enough to do so. I’m whining because so many of you people are being twits about what I thought was a valid query. What-ever.
