SWTOR Game Update 5.4 Delayed by 24 Hours

Bioware will be unable to deploy Game Update 5.4 due to a critical bug, delaying it by 24 hrs.

*UPDATED* Maintenance: August 23rd, 2017 | 08.21.2017, 04:07 PM
Hey folks,

I apologize for the late notice on this. We are going to delay the launch of Game Update 5.4 by 24 hours. Crisis on Umbara’s maintenance will now be on Wednesday, 8/23 at the same time as the originally planned maintenance (5AM – 9AM PDT).

As we do with all updates, we continually test until it goes out the door. From this testing we discovered a critical bug with the Crisis on Umbara Flashpoint. This bug can prevent a substantial amount of gameplay when a player experiences it, from not playing the intro cinematic to not allowing re-entry into the instance. Due to the severity of the bug, we are not comfortable releasing the Game Update in its current state.

I will go ahead and updated the messaging in both this thread and the launcher to reflect the new maintenance window. Again, we do apologize for the late notice and thank you for your patience.

  • I appreciate them testing, but my question becomes; what have they been doing for the past few weeks if not testing this FP?

    • MrKnowItAll

Someone’s parents came to town and they couldn’t do anything for the last few weeks probably. Or maybe his dog got sick?

      • Caedes

Ha! Maybe his dad came to visit just as he was made Lead QA Associate and he couldn’t do his job.

    • AbnerDoon

Double checking their list of the dastardly players who got away with shuffling tunings and crystals around. :p

    • j’oe

things can still fail when they go live.

      • Emon McCullen

5.4 WILL have some kind of fail when it goes live, no matter if they delay it or not

    • Ran Sherman

ok, i work as a QA tester, not in video game but still, there are times when severe bugs can be found prior ro launching a program, which yeah sucks for both the company and the client, but when you encounter a show stopping bug, even if it’s just before the launch of the product (which as i said can happen) you can’t launch it. you have no idea the amout of testing being done and gues what you can still miss stuff or something pops during fixing of bugs that make things worse.

i mean this here, s just the bug WE KNOW ABOUT, i’ll bet my saving that during the testing there were by far worse bugs they encountered that we don’t even know about. shit happens, doesn’t mean they didn’t do their job.

      • Very true. Also it’s likely this issue was introduced by a pretty late fix for something else. They may have screwed up testing or been doing changes far too late, but it’s hardly a given just because there are last-minute finds. As others have said, at least they found this one before release.

I agree with your statements. But this is just one more failure and I can understand peoples disgust. Back when 3.0 dropped there were 2 operations,2 flash points, pvp maps and alot of story released. Now they release small chucks of content at a time and still we get delays. Check CCP and their record with EVE. A much smaller company that produces a much much larger more complex game and they manage to do this right 95% of the time. This alone makes me wonder what the real issues are here.

  • Ben Gimson

Surprising. They don’t usually let game-breaking bugs stop them.

    • Bastardodcadena

      some bugs still on game

  • ZestyM8

Maybe they could delay the packs a bit more so they don’t come out complete trash as well.

    • Darth Ji’inx

Just because you don’t like them, it doesn’t make them “trash.” If you don’t like the items, then don’t buy them. 😉
Furthermore, the pack’s already done, another day won’t change a thing.

      • ZestyM8

And I’ve been doing that for months. Thanks for stating something which is inevitably what anyone would do if they weren’t to like something, like these terrible packs. Also majority of the items are well and truly labeled as trash to me and countless other people. This is Star Wars, the amount of creativity could be immense, instead most content and packs lack that.

I do have hope for the Umbara content though, we’ll see.

        • Darth Ji’inx

I’m just not sure why there’s a handful of people lately that keep bashing the new pack items. I think they’re an improvement in terms of quality (textures and complexity) when compared to the original packs, as well as creativity when compared to more recent packs (no more reskins, aside from a few mounts).

What I see as (potential) issues are the decreasing number of armors per pack, constant RNG tweaks, and the over-saturation of Zakuulan/golden armors.

I get that not everyone likes these new items, but constantly bashing them just seems pointless and petty.

      • John Kosto

        They are pretty bad.

  • 平賀才人

Are they just admitting that there are situations on which they can feel “comfortable” releasing a buggy Update, despite of finding bugs on last minute testing?

    • gua543

Nah, they had enough subs back then, so they just didn’t care.

    • Delta

What’s there to admit? If you wait until your product is absolutely, 100% bug free before releasing it… you will never release it, it’s really that simple.

  • Errtai

1 day delay is nothing, better get it fixed than experience another “naked Jorgan” fiasco.

    • Marrks

the 1 day delay doesn’t bother, it bothers that they release minimun content every 3 months yet they always screw it

  • Caedes

The SWTOR Circus on Wheels continues, after this 24 hour commercial break.

  • Their developers suck, why would we expect anything less than ineptitude from their faux QA team too….

New Bioware tagline: “Failing as Intended.”

  • Ramzzess

    Doesn’t surprise me anymore

  • Bastardodcadena

for people who suscribe and his suscription end today….delayed…i dont think so

  • Wanna bet the “critical bug” had something to do with Cartel Coins or Gambling Packs?

  • dzip.sys

At least they never disappoint in disappinting us.

  • Guest

    Amazing! Simply amazing!
They find a bug and delay the release. You people all start bitching about it. If they had released it with the FP breaking bug you would bitch about that. Nothing they do satisfies you. You’re a bunch of toxic asshole.

  • Darth Ji’inx

Update: Patch 5.4 delayed until Thursday.

  • get over it

Omg so much impatience and judgement. So what. A day. Go watch Netflix or (radical thought) go outside and have a night out with friends.

I just wish we could get a straight answer to our questions. CCP is a much smaller company that has a game so more advanced than SWTOR there is no way to explain all the differences. Yet CCP manages to keep a crazy economy running, balance a very complex group of races and a very large number of ships, while keeping their player base happy and doing this on time 95% of the time. When they do make a mistake they will tell their player base in detail what the issues are, not try and hide them of give a vague answer. I know most of you will say then go play EVE, well I am doing just that. However I put alot of time, money, and in some cases what atleast felt like work into learning my classes, and getting my characters and myself NiM capable. With all this time and money invested I think we should know exactly what these issues are. To decide if it worth while continuing to put time and money into this game that many of us do love.
