GW2 Path of Fire Launch Trailer

Arenanet has released the launch trailer for Path of Fire to accompany its release on Sept 22.

Unfortunately it is not a CGI trailer, just a gameplay trailer featuring multitude of story dialogue parts.

There is only three days left until Path of Fire release! Make sure you have preordered the game so you are ready to go on launch day (Sept 22).

I saw one comment on there say that they will begin counting down the years until we go back to Cantha. That’s not a bad idea actually. Never thought we’d go back to Elona so why not go the extra mile and hope for Cantha 🙂

    • Emil33

      ~crosses fingers for Season 4 content!~

      • Suan

Nah, S4 must be about Elona, they gave us a whole Elona map. I want to go back to all these places. From Istan to Vabbi, sit in Kamadan once again. I hope they will leave Cantha for Guild Wars 3 as there is a huge potential in that whole region. A lot has happened in these 250 years. And a expansion with 5 maps would not give justices to it.

        • Steven Kucher

I really hope we get to revisit the realm of torment

      • The One Copper Bard

Oh I’m sure there will be LWS4 content. People greatly look forward to those since they are now instances.

    • burntorangenavyblue

Remember, S4 content will be out not too far after this release according to ANET. We got what, 6 maps from S3? We may even get more than 6 maps with S4 if they are able to streamline making content now.

      • The One Copper Bard

Have to definitely wait and see as things can change with unexpected stuff getting in the way. I always cheer onward when they announce whatever LWS X instead of saying its coming out. Patience is always a virtue 🙂

  • Veluta Lunata

Just no PoF equivalent of Pocket Raptors please. Death by a thousand cuts : /

    • Steven Kucher

I half agree. Pocket raptors suck but it would be cool to have more mobs that make you change your tactics. Just not in the same way pocket raptors do.

  • Emil33

Does anyone else thing that is Big K’s claw lending a hand against the minons???? OMG!

    • Hyldenlord

Judging by the voice in the background when Rytlock is kneeling I would say that might be Gleam – Glint’s first scion.

      • Emil33

Oh maybe! Either way that is also exciting because that indictes BIG K is still on our side? Might make for an epic last fight. Also … I’m wondering where Aurene fits in to this. Do we bring her home? There is no mention if her in the trailer.

        • Suan

Aurene or Gleam is at 1:02 flying towards Balthazar. The claw that you talk about, do mean the one at 1:38? That’s Balthazar minion.. well probably a big boss for us. We’ve seen them already. Look closely that claw is made of metal just like Forged – minions of Balthazar. And it stomps on Joko’s minions – the Awakened.

          • Emil33

I really hope that is Aurene 🙂 Yeah looking at the claw now it totally looks like a Balthazar minor …. I get super excited :3 and I literally have to watch these things 100 times to calm down lol

  • Suan

0:25 is that voice of Livia? Will Livia join us or is it just her voice actress playing some other npc?
0:55 Kasmeer in her old clothes and hairstyle in that cutscene, 1:00 back to her new, current ones.
    1:02 Aurene? Or Gleam.
1:05 Balthazar swings his greatsword and something above him swings too.. is that the weapon that is mentioned in the trailer?
1:09 whos voice is that? Gleam? Or is it Palawa Joko?
    Rytlock&Canach bromance. I love it. 😀

    • Steven Kucher

0:25 That’s Exemplar Karida. U meet her in the last episode of LWS3

      • wQnxy

its also Livia : you meet her in gw:eye of the north

      • Suan

So uh.. I don’t want to judge but there are 3 options..
        1. This was supposed to be a “wink wink” message but you forgot to put winky face at the end.
        2. You are just simply trolling me.
        3. You were drunk or with a high fever while you wrote that message.

It’s Kerida not Karida. Kerida is Livia, you know that right? Or did you play the first half of episode 6 season 3 and never finished it?

        • Steven Kucher

None of the above. I was purposely leaving out the spoiler and accidentally typoed the name *fixed

    • Alot

I liked how Rytlock referred to an event which Taimi simulated as being ‘world destroying’ as ‘unpredictable’. That and the really big foot. Didn’t care much for the rest of it though :/

      • lithlius

Well Rytlock may not be reffering to Taimi’s simulation but maybe to something from what happened to him in the Mists and now is becoming more relevant.

On the Kasmeer outfit, its already established she is actually naked and hers clothes are mesmer illusions ( yes theres atleast 2 instances where she or someone else points out to it) so yeah she can switch in a blink of an eye

        • Alot

Where was the second hint that kasmeer was naked? I only remember it being mentioned once during the tower of nightmares?

  • Alot

I don’t blame Anet for not doing a cinematic trailer, or for giving us a living world teaser, but this seemed like an extremely “meh” addition to the expansion.

Cinematic trailers, to me, have always been about rendering an awesome or conceptually pivotal moment in higher graphics. I don’t mind the lack of graphics but absolutely nothing happened in this clip except for the introduction of plot-device-weapon-tm and a really big foot.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate a really bit foot, the suggested battle and the unavoidable gem store finisher cosmetic but where is the action, the build up or the suggestion that things are about to get worse? We already know Balthazaar is heading that way, we already know he is fighting with the undead and we already know we need allies. We dont get any indication on who we’ll need or what mysteries need to be uncovered. Instead we get two mount demo videos, 3 vistas, 4 elite spec rehashes and 3 short scenes which are without doubt ripped directly from the game.

Two mount demo videos, 3 vistas, 4 elite spec rehashes and 3 short scenes are enough to make a pivotal moment, just be strategic about it. Take a current ransacked village somewhere in the PoF areas, show how it looked before it was burnt to the ground and then show how Balthazaar barrels through the place destroying it – while having some elite spec npcs hold off the invaders while people escape (on raptors). If you want to be really sneaky and nostalgic, set it to some desert woman singing something related to GW1 in the same way Livia sang that zephyr piece in the last living world.

    • Taiwan Wolf

I personally am not too fond of this style of trailer creation. It’s whatever if it’s a Living Story trailer but I’m disappointed they used it for an expansion launch trailer. I don’t think it’s going to make much of an impression on any friends I show it to who don’t play GW.

      • Alot

Aye well, all my friends gave up on GW2 during the period between the once off large events of living world season 1 and the beginning of the repeatable living world season 2 additions – so I don’t have that problem.

    • Ardenwolfe

I had the same reaction. Meh. But they seem excited about it on YouTube.

      • Alot

Something to remember is that games companies do not deal with people who are negative about their products. People who benefit from or are part of promotional initiatives need to remain positive or they will have their access cut.

Being positive doesn’t mean you can’t voice criticism but it needs to be stylishly done to not land you in trouble – and few YouTubers are popular, snazzy or suicidal enough to pull that off..

    • Trillium

“I don’t blame Anet for not doing a cinematic trailer”
      I do.

  • The Sacrifice

Guild Wars 2 “We Wuz” DLC

    • Dehh

      White gods are evil! BALTHAZAR=NAZI

  • Trillium

    So Trahearne is black now?

    • Shaggy

nah man that was the other guy

    • Alot

Spent enough time around rytlock and that flaming sword and most sylvari are prone to being “charred”.

  • Alastor999

I think the trailer was fine, except maybe it needed better music. I wish they had used a remix of the Guild Wars 1 Elona theme instead.

    • Alot

There is a short in game cinematic of wow doing the rounds. It’s literally a short in game clip where a giant stone dude lights his giant sword on fire and tries to squish your character – but your character gets teleported away at the last moment. That quest end event has more gravity then the entire gw2 promotional.

      • Alastor999

I don’t know about that… I think it might largely depend on the audience and how familiar they are with the lore in Warcraft. I can’t say, because for me, the majority of the “HOLY SHTI!” factor in that cutscene was because it’s friggin’ Aggramar that showed up to cleave you with his sword. I don’t know if that cutscene would have as much an impact on a viewer that didn’t know the context of who that Titan is, but again, that might just be me.

And of course… the same could be said of this launch trailer. I could just think it’s fine (save for music) because I’m a veteran GW1 player and just squeeing at the nostalgia.

        • Alot

True. I ditched world of warcraft after cataclysm but I did know who Aggramar was when I left it. If you played GW1 and got nostalgic over this, great for you – though I do feel there could have been much more powerful ways to reference that nostalgia.

Old songs, a brief cameo of that undead ruler guy in the trailer hinting that his aid would be costly, or better yet have some desert warrior guy charge balthazaar with a spear (and we already have seraph wielding spears in game), have balthazaar knock the bloke back shattering the spear and have the bloke get back up, holding both ends of the shattered spear as daggers and charging forward.

GW has such a rich history. You don’t need high res but at least make use of your existing symbology-.-

“Characters running in straight lines” Good to see MMO trailers haven’t evolved since 2004.

  • nadrian3k

Very well made trailer IMO…i just get a feeling they spoiled a bit too much..even tho a lot was expectable.

    • George R.R. Fartin

I don’t know if you’re aware of this but when people, as real life human beings, run towards a destination, it is in a straight line. Actual real life human beings don’t run like spastic bees towards their objective, so why exactly would characters in a video game?

      • George R.R. Fartin

Responded to the wrong comment. Meant for the guy below.

      • nadrian3k

Staying true to your last name i see.
