GW2 Festival of the Four Winds Returns Next Week

Festival of the Four Winds will be returning to GW2 next week.

labyrinthine_cliffs_bazaar_03

On July 24, a big summer celebration is blowing in—the Festival of the Four Winds! A collaborative effort by Her Royal Majesty Queen Jennah of Kryta, the Zephyrites, the Lionguard, and even the Black Lion Trading Company, this annual festival brings back popular summertime activities in both Divinity’s Reach and the Labyrinthine Cliffs.

The Crown Pavilion

Queen Jennah herself will preside over the festivities in Divinity’s Reach, where ambitious contenders can do battle in the Crown Pavilion to earn prestige and rewards. Join the Boss Blitz melee to take down vicious villains,* and compete in one-on-one matchups with notorious challengers in the Queen’s Gauntlet.

The Labyrinthine Cliffs

Traders, crafters, and other compelling and mysterious individuals have gathered for the Bazaar of the Four Winds. Relax on the beach, hunt for sky crystals, barter for goods, or just engage in a little quiet people-watching. Be sure to take your griffon for a spin around the cliffs—and give the Zephyrites a warm welcome back.

To get in the festival spirit, we’ve put together an asset kit with nostalgic Festival of the Four Winds art, wallpapers, and music, along with some new screenshots. You can download it here.

*Vicious villains and their contemptable compatriots are represented by the new, improved, and entirely secure Watchknight Mk II system.

  • Mr. Principal

    😀

  • mhm

Watch Rucksack skin price dropping like hot potatoe.

    • Urosh Uchiha Novakovic

Watch prices of sprockets rise for Sovereign weapons xD

      • Burn Bicz, BURN

Hope so, i’ve lot of stacks of them

    • KJ

I wonder if Wind Catcher, Lightning Catcher, Sun Catcher skins will be effected by this update.

  • Alot

I had a good laugh when I saw this. Since the last time they departed we’ve been running across dead/dying zepherites, airship wrecks and more recently, zeph encampments which appeared to have been abandoned mid-breakfast (right next to the forged). The disappearance of the Zephs has been one of the staple fables introduced in GW2. And what happened to em? Apparently nuttin -.-

They’ll probably lose it over Aurene though. That should be fun.

    • Shaggy

devs said they arent doing a lot of story tie-ins so that base game players can get in on it, so sadly i doubt well get more than a passing mention of aurene, unless they tie the zephs in to the next LW episode

      • Alot

I wouldn’t expect any new battles or mechanics but to not get a dialogue cutscene on aurene (by the not-animated-armor-dragon-keepers) would Be really disappointing .

    • Scutilla

It’s been a couple of years, yes? Plenty of time to let those crash survivors heal up and work on building a few new airships. Rebuilding the Zephyr Sanctum seems like the only huge lore stretch, but seeing as it’s a big fixture of the map I’d doubt they’d take it out.

      • Ares Zax

Yep. Even as far back as LS2, the crash survivors said that not all of the ships were blasted from the sky. Some survived and flew on to Cantha. It seems reasonable to assume that those who escaped have since returned, met up with the Zephyrite survivors (although Dry Top will no doubt continue to be “frozen in time”) and rebuilt their community. I’m guessing one of the Aspect Masters will have been elected the new Master of Peace, and I’m quite curious to see how the Zephyrites will react to Aurene as Glint’s Second Scion, given their entire “religion” is centered around Glint and her teachings.

    • Trillium

Yeah, I feel like all my cheering a few years back over annoying zephirites with their !@#$% crystals finally having crashed was for nothing. I feel betrayed.

  • kazerniel

    *inarticulate screaming*

Yay! As someone who started as f2p I never got to do the original events of these.

    • I don’t know this event … is it good?

      • kazerniel

I always see them mentioned with fondness and nostalgia on the GW2 subreddit, so I assume so 🙂

Fyi these were the original festival features, not sure how much they gonna keep of them:

      • Burn Bicz, BURN

This event was one of the best

      • Alot

I feel like I’ve ascended through the strata of bitter vets and emerged an encyclopedia of forgotten oddities -.-

        The events have different legacies.

Back in the day GW2 was (drum roll), very easy. The Crown Pavilion had some of the very first hard enemies in game and some single player fights with challenges equal to the difficulty of raid roles or fractal challenges (long before either existed). The pavillion was also the source of the straight condition damage sigil which meteors in price every expansion – though it should be noted that at the time of release conditions didn’t stack, so only the first 2 condition players in a horde would do anything. That aside the grind route, while novel at the time, is underwhelming compared to most newer maps we have. It has some cool weapon skin rewards though.

The cliffs are a fun map. While GW2 puts heavy emphasis on different forms of movement, base GW2 didn’t really have any of that. I believe that the Labyrinthine Cliffs were the the second map to feature movement abilities such as high jumps, long distance dashes and target based slingshotting (the first were aetherblade-spin-launcher things (which were terrible)). That movement stuff started to show up much more often shortly after that and was a definite precursor for stuff like jumping mushrooms, gliding and eventually mounts. Of note though is that the Zepherites who stop there were followers of Glint and that their ultimate purpose seemed to be the protection of Aurene’s egg – so unless they really skimp on the lore, prepare to get fan girl’d by a mob of minimalistic airship nomad monks.

      • Shaggy

im super excited to see what theyve done with it now that we have griffons, gliders, and beetles.

i spent more time in this event than even SAB or wintersday

    • kara_h

Not just FTP. I started the game in the middle of season 2 (late 2014) so missed a lot of stuff as well. FTP was not even an option back then.

“*Vicious villains and their contemptable compatriots are represented by the new, improved, and entirely secure Watchknight Mk II system.”

oooooohhhh nononononono, “entirely secure” my a–

    • Alot

It would be cool to have Blish get infatuated with one.

      • Mr. Principal

Then they both run away and later get a new mini baby MK II in gem store for 400 gems..

      • Zone

C: Hey Blish, why don’t you take one for the team and go “donate” a gold to Heal-o-tron?? *finger guns*
        B: Y-yes Commander…

  • Michael Morus Fenrir

Sprocket guild hall decos, just saying watchwork statues etc.

    • Zaire Kelly

only like 10% of the population cares about decs sadly.

      • Michael Morus Fenrir

True if . Only Guild halls had more use

  • Scutilla

I kinda hope the Lab Cliffs collection sidequest remains intact, that was definitely one of the more challenging (and unique thanks to the sky crystal skills). Sadly the mention of griffons makes me think mounts will be available to crack the map wide open.

    • Ares Zax

I have a feeling we’re going to get entirely new achievements (or at least, rehashed), similar to the way that CNY, Halloween and Wintersday had their achievements restructured. The various collections will probably return in a largely unchanged format, since they need to be doable by core players who don’t have access to HoT or PoF, but yeah, gliding and mounts will probably make those collections far easier than they were before. We might also see completely new achievements based on griffon/beetle races.

There are also new foes in the Gauntlet (based on one of the screenshots available in the media pack), so I’m not sure if Liadri et al will be back, or we’ll see an entirely new roster. There’s also a new White Mantle zone in the Pavilion, and the Watchknights have an entirely new skin.

  • Raizel

There are too many new players out there, I don’t like them.

  • Squatch

Last time Labyrinth Cliffs / Queens Gauntlet were available, I had a cheap computer that barely had the power to support the movement mechanics of the cliffs, and the populations of the gauntlet.

Now that I’ve had a gaming laptop for a several years, can’t wait to experience these two regions again!

    • Bob Cratchet

Usual lagfest. You’d think Anet would rent more servers or something.

  • Zavos

With any luck mounts and gliders will be barred from Laberynthine Cliffs

    • GoldenDragonRider

It says “Be sure to take your griffon for a spin around the cliffs”, so I have no clue why you would comment hoping otherwise.

  • John Doe

Great event really happy they brought it back

  • Alot

Wonder if they’ll add crystal spawn points as guild hall decorations. Throw those in and the puzzle builders will go nuts.

    • Bob Cratchet

They have those. There’s one in my house from years ago.

  • Narottam Zakheim

im happy this event is coming back…. i always rly enjoyed it… hope it can be a profitable farm and that some new features will be added… i was always sad that this event seemed to have been dropped form the rota…. so yay 🙂

  • Answerer

My one fear is.. that this festival make the value of quartz crash, if not only for during the festival

    • Squatch

Ideally, if they introduce any kind of quartz farm, they will also build more recipes / uses for it to keep its value balanced. But the markets bound to fluctuate as the game changes.

      • Alot

Perhaps some truly ridiculous shoulders to match their truly ridiculous helms.

    • Michael Gonzalez

Farm a crazy amount of it, then sell way after when prices normalize. Get rich.

    • Tahkuri

Yesterday the value dropped to 33 bronze lol. Should’ve bought a load.
