Referring to something in the Rule of Two series is all. Nothing wrong with it.

The only Drew Karpyshyn series I ever liked. Revan Tor novel was garbage though, he pretty much ruined another studios story and characters that were not his. Exile will always be Exile, not that god awful name he came up with. Meetra…. Pff… vetrean general reduced to being side piece for Revan and his fangirl…

Unfortunately SWTOR is KOTOR 3. I think the bigger story out there is why doesn’t EA want to build more games with the Star Wars IP. And the answer could really be as simple as EA is doing the bare minimum in the hopes of losing the license.

This article explains nothing, but it does imply that EA is not happy with the Disney deal.
Star Wars: EA Reportedly Unhappy with Game License

“Why has EA had so much trouble getting new Star Wars games on shelves? According to Kotaku, EA’s difficulties with the Star Wars license might have something to do with CEO Andrew Wilson, who has reportedly never been “entirely thrilled” with the 10-year licensing deal in the first place. This claim is according to Kotaku’s sources inside EA as well as former employees. The publisher responded to the report, calling the rumors “pure speculation and not accurate.”

      • Ben Gimson

Then EA can fuck off when the renewal date comes up and let a proper studio take over.

        • Fubarz

And which one of the great and grand gaming companies would that be? Since they are all the same…..

          • Ben Gimson

Literally anyone. EA is the worst of a bad bunch. In an ideal world, though? CD Projekt. Even down to their T&Cs, it’s clear they put care and effort into what they create. The polar opposite of EA.

            • Fubarz

CD Projekt or any other company still have to deal with Disney /Luasfilms over site of any game project so it does not affect the “brand name”. After spending billions for the license would that be even worth it for them…

            • I don’t think they’d want it. It’s a major IP, so either way it’s going to be with a major publisher.

              • Ben Gimson

Aye, it’d never happen, which in some ways is a good thing.

      • I think it also had to do with the executive control Lucasfilm had, the limits what a studio can actually do with the title. I mean, SWTOR was micromanaged down to the color schemes. It strangled development – and squandered time and money for other studios. Kotaku reported on the issues working with Lucasfilm when the bounty hunter game got shut down.

Developing for a franchise would be a nightmare, especially with the franchise itself being active again through Disney (I don’t personally think the films were too “kiddy” compared with the rest) – in the sense than the universe is changing and it’s difficult to set a game that can’t change with it, I suppose. Disney is usually pretty good about differentiating revenue streams and capitalizing on opportunities, so I don’t imagine them being to blame when it comes to rejecting a Star Wars digital project (I mean, they’re even building a section of their theme park around it).

I also don’t think the CEO of EA would be that involved with one license/property, considering how many different titles they have active at any given moment. And we can’t really bitch about EA being greedy and then turn around to say the CEO is skipping out on income from a dedicated market just because he doesn’t personally like it. Basically, I think blaming one person, or falling back on “EA sucks man” fails to capture the entire fucked up picture – it’s way more complicated than that.

      • lolipop

No, he never been that “entirely thrilled” because that f…. face is unhappy that we didn’t liked their scammy money grab on BF2 + they are completely retarded, trying to implement microtransaction bullshit in their every f…. game. They think they nailed it with fifa so that model will work with every their other game…. boo f… hooo… i am so sad now. I wish “best of luck” for them…

        • Bakgrind

That is correct. EA or we should say Andrew Wilson has been trying to incorporate loot box and MTX mechanisms in all aspects of their games ever since he took over the helm at EA. The Disney deal in question was signed 6 months before became CEO of EA. But, he wasn’t with the deal because it didn’t fit into his business model once he took over. And not only that they have been claiming that single player linear games are not as popular as they used to be whilst trying to make MTX the norm in gaming.

    • Kubrickian

That chart on 8:32 say’s it all. EA will never do anything with their Lucasfilm exclusivity. If Bioware were to break away from EA the way Bungie recently did with Activision then maybe they could re-negotiate with Lucasfilm. Disney wants Star Wars to be kiddie friendly now so basically anyone over the age of 12 is not their intended audience.

      • Fred Garvin

        [OP is Fred G]

Nor were adults Lucas’ intended audience which is why all of the OT were rated PG. He’s literally on record saying it was for 12 year olds…lol.

    • Mister-giggles

The video neglects to mention Disney’s Star Wars Princess. No, not Padme or Leia. I’m speaking of the High and Mouthy Princess of the Planet of Ooberbytch: Kathleen Kennedy.

Her hostility towards Star Wars fans is now legendary. If I am understanding her very public insulting and bigoted comments correctly, she desires to completely gut and deconstruct the franchise just to spite and antagonize “white males”. She even blames the failure of Star Wars 7, 8 and Solo on “white males”. And it may very well be that she has actively extended that antagonism to the video game industry because… “we all know that the majority of video game players are…” …wait for it… “white males”. This is of course not factual, but in the eyes of the lunatic fringe of Liberalism, SJW Snowflakes can only see Star Wars and video games bastions of “white male culture”. And so… what now?

It may be that EA is bound by Kathleen Kennedy’s orders and until either she is fired by Disney (or Disney goes bankrupt, or EA goes bankrupt) there will never again be another meaningful Star Wars game or movie.

By the way, I am so sorry, Mr. Billy Dee Williams! As a white Star Wars fan, I loved you as Lando Calrissian! I believe you brought roguish class to The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. But apparently… Kathleen Kennedy just doesn’t count you as being black. Go figure.

  • LucasFaun

EA can munch on hard caca.

  • Can someone insert a toxic troll comment here about nothing but Cartel Market updates? I’m fresh out of new ones.

  • Fred Garvin

    [OP is Fred G]

Tony Romo predicted this play call by EA/BioWare of a fifth straight week with nothing but Cartel Market updates.

    • Paulo Gomes

      Yep…

In other unrelated and completely different news: another MMO is getting Elsweyr and the Season of the Dragon pretty soon… In the wake of Mirkmire…

Pretty different from playing Barbie dress-up, right???

      ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Fred Garvin

        Exactly.

And as much hate as the entitled crybaby mob wants to hurl at Blizzard, the last WoW patch has more content than an entire SWTOR expansion. Including a nine boss raid that not only is amazing but is the second in 4 months (and third in barely just over a calendar year.)

Howโ€™s ESO going for you Paulo? Whenever I watch Critical Role and theyโ€™re playing Elder Scrolls music in the background it makes me want to play but Iโ€™m done making attempts at playing two MMOs.

        • Paulo Gomes

It’s ok. I mean, my glory days of MMO playing are behind me I guess. No more the hardcore raider I used to be. Still do some group stuff of course, but I don’t put in nearly as much time into it as I used to.

But the guys at Bethesda are still putting some effort into ESO. It’s still interesting. It still feels alive. Don’t know much about Fallout 76 though… hehehehehehe…

I re-installed TOR to play the new stuff. Ran through it on the Light Side, playing Republic. Could not bring myself to do the Dark Side/Empire side… Maybe I will one of these days… But it’s not interesting enough for me to play two MMOs either. So I get what you’re saying. And fully agree.

          • Naq

I know the reviews are terrible, but I am thinking of giving 76 a try. I’ve loved all the Fallout games, but my favorite kind of storytelling in 3, Vegas and sometimes 4, is the story told by Archeology. You dig around in the trash, the closets, the old computers, and the ruins and piece together what happened in places, without some humanoid npc spewing exposition at you. So as much as people are unhappy with no npcs in Fallout 76, for me at least it sounds ideal. And I can play it with friends while they roll their eyes and tell me to read faster.

Not excited about all the bugs, and cheating and server instability though, so I’m holding off until that all clears up. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0e57ca8b469668d94aef562ce573a0e2ae7c8b4c20f42194e424265656adc5b4.jpg Playing a little Division in the mean time during my ESO vacation.

if you’re in emea/aus/nz region, you can grab it for less than 8 pounds right now

          • gog

I started playing FO with FO1 & 2. I absolutely hate 76 even if I haven’t played it. But the RPG aspects of 1,2 and Vegas is what made me fall in love with that series.
ESO is really fun to play casually too, and you can really go deep into the crafting and have fun with it instead of raiding, which helps when you have a really random gaming schedule ๐Ÿ™‚

        • isla

It’s the Witcher music they use that still manages to give me chills ๐Ÿ™‚

        • gog

I play both WoW and ESO atm, both of them are in a good place. Different feels to the games, but the amount of content they both produce makes them enjoyable and it’s hard to get bored with them. Had a 6+ month break from ESO as I’d played it constantly for 2 years prior to that, went back in and had a blast.

Still miss playing a good space/futuristic game (either MMO or single player), the fantasy setting is getting old for me. Which is the thing I miss the most with TOR, not the actual SW stuff. Can’t wait for Cyberpunk 2077 since that will likely cure a bit of that itch.

          • Fred Garvin

It’s too bad Star Citizen is nothing but vaporware. Bethesda is working on that space RPG they announced last year but probably won’t be out for few years. Cyberpunk 2077 does look very interesting. They’d never do it but would be cool if Blizzard made a Starcraft MMO.

            • gog

A Starcraft MMO would’ve been cool, or just a RPG since I get why they don’t want to compete with themselves in the MMO market too much.
I think there’s a market for space RPG’s/MMO’s, no matter if it’s SW or not. Just a shame that BW have dropped off so much.

      • Shawn Hargrave

i encountered a fanboi recently LOL its been so long i called guiness world records to verify lolz

      • Isla

Yeah, but Elsweyr’s chapter is launching in ~6 months. At least GW2 has updated events I guess. I think they’re just trying to keep SWTOR online, really. I don’t expect an expansion or anything to happen in the near future.

    • jacy phoenix

wow! what a surprise. It’s already the most frequently updated part of swtor since 2.8
somehow i’m still shocked whenever I see nothing but CM updates this many times in a single month

      • Fubarz

This is part of the game that keeps it going. So why the surprise?

        • jacy phoenix

because back around october they mentioned how they would reveal their plans for 6.0 in jan/feb 2019 and im pretty sure we’re around that point now. so for only Cartel market to get updates is a huge surpri— oh wait no… neverming. It’s just plain ordinary sarcasm.
          Who would’ve thought

          • Fubarz

lmao!! but it is till Jan and 4 weeks of Feb to go….honestly I think they see that as more March/ April As anthem comes put end of Feb

            • jacy phoenix

perhaps so, but to me “reveal plans” is more like, This is what we’re going to do.
I’m not expecting a fully down patch by then, just more information. But surely it can’t be hard to produce that. That’s a little concerning

              • Fubarz

Remember the Summer of PvP we got it in mid / late September with a bunch of delay BS. I would not hold my breath waiting for them to do anything on time. Now that it’s Monday the new CM update is here.

              • jacy phoenix

Yeah i totally get what you’re saying, and I completely agree. But in hindsight, its one thing to say/promise something. Even if they were late at some point in the past, I don’t like to think less of people or expect less of them over that. I expect them to learn from past mistakes and constantly improve. Despite that, I was still expecting SOME news. Guess that was a f*ck up on my part. Sh*t happens i suppose x)

    • Kubrickian

That and the fact that Disney Star Wars is Dumb. https://disneystarwarsisdumb.wordpress.com/

  • jacy phoenix

Activision should’ve f*cked over EA instead of Blizzard. I feel like they would’ve been the dark knights of the gaming industry if they did.

  • Fubarz

Just out of curiosity how many really still play Tor that post? I still do since I like some of it and get to still hang with friends
